afghans for Afghans Jacket for Children

This sweater-jacket for children was inspired by a photo of a "Friday Mosque" in Afghanistan. The motifs and colors evoke the mosaic art that adorns this 800-year-old place of worship. The pattern is a tribute to the rich cultural heritage of the Afghan people. Experienced knitters will enjoy the challenge.

Suitable for a girl or boy 1 to 4 years old, in sizes 12-18 months, 2-3 years, and 4 years (finished chest 24, 26, 28"; finished length 14"). Uses 5 colors of fingering weight (28 st/4") yarn as follows for all sizes: 372 yards of color A (light blue heather), 264 yards of color B (azure blue), 156 yards of color C (sand), 168 yards of color D (navy blue), and 72 yards of color E (reddish tan).

When you purchase this pattern from Elann, 100% of its purchase price will go directly to afghans for Afghans, a humanitarian and educational people-to-people project that sends hand-knit and crocheted blankets and garments to the beleaguered people of Afghanistan, and which supports literacy classes for widows and other women in Kabul.
