The story of Manon Lescaut, taken on by no fewer than three giants of the opera, depicts the struggle of love over wealth -- and its tragic consequences. Having chosen the latter, it becomes too late for Manon to change her mind. Denounced as immoral when she tries to leave her wealthy suitor, Manon is deported to America where even the devotion of her young lover cannot save her.
For her prosperous days, though, Manon wears a curved wrap which is as luxurious as an ermine stole. Accomplished through a graduated series of short rows, the Manon shawl is worked, in ruching, down from the long, upper edge. It becomes a faster knit as it is worked to the shorter, lower edge. Its unique shaping allows it to be worn as a shawl, a wrap, or a shrug.
Suitable for Intermediate knitters in one size fits most (finished size 66" wide from tip to tip by 16" long at center back), it uses 755 yards of DK weight (21-23 st/4") or light worsted weight (19-20 st/4") yarn.
