Lace motifs, including “wings of the swan” and “bee”, inspired the Birds and Bees Stole. The wedge-shaped centre panel gives the stole a slightly Vee shape for ease in wearing and creates two “wings” of lovely lace on either side. The stole begins with a centre panel from which stitches are picked up to work each “wing.” Stitches are then picked up all around and a simple garter stitch edging is worked in an optional second colour.
This stocking stitch stole has lace knitting on one side only, except for the delightful “bee” motif (detailed explanation of how to work is included). With a finished wingspan measurement of 25" wide and 35" along top edge of each “wing” from centre of stole, it is suitable for the more experienced lace knitter. Sample shown here in two colors was knit with 3 balls for main color and 1 ball for contrasting color of Fiddlesticks Knitting Enticing (light fingering weight – 240 m/ 262 yards per 50g ball). If knit in only one color, 4 balls of Fiddlesticks Knitting Enticing or 835 m (approx 911 yards) of light fingering weight yarn will be required.
