  • Color and texture are the order of the day in this collection of cold weather items to knit for women in a range of sizes and weights of yarn, including a feature on the striking results of knitting bulky yarns into detailed designs. Garments are represented by patterns for pullovers, cardigans, and coats, as well as a dress, a jumper, and a vest. Accessory patterns include colorful scarves, a bag, and a hat. If you are looking for something smaller to knit that still will challenge you, Jared Flood has contributed a pattern for a pair of gloves, beautifully textured with cables that go to the tip of each finger. Knitwear designer Sandra Backlund is profiled, as is Madame Rykiel, and the informative articles include samples of their extraordinary work.

  • Designed by Mari Lynn Patrick, this uniquely constructed jacket features a crocheted medallion at the centre back, from which stitches are picked up onto double point needles and then knit outward in a ribbed stitch pattern, creating a dramatic focal point. Set in raglan sleeves are finished in a broken rib which repeats on the left and right fronts for additional visual interest. In size S/M (finished bust 38"; finished length 23"), it uses 16 balls of Bergere de France Magic+ (50% wool/ 50% acrylic - chunky weight - 16 st/4" - 87 yards per 50g ball) or 1392 yards of a substitute yarn of similar gauge and weight.
  • Designed by Shiri Mor, vertical panels of textural stitches frame feminine and romantic lace in this intriguing turtleneck pullover. Perfect as a transitional garment, or layered under a coat for cooler weather, the flattering pattern placement draws the eye upwards. In sizes S, M, L, and XL (finished bust 34.5, 37, 40, 48.5"; finished length 22.25, 22.25, 22.75, 24.25"), it uses 13, 14, 15, 19 balls of Filatura di Crosa Zara (100% extra fine Merino - DK weight - 23 st/4" - 136.5 yards per 50g ball), or 1775, 1911, 2048, 2594 yards of yarn of similar gauge and yardage.
