Lace butterflies soar above a border of blossoms on these square, garter stitch lace pieces, knit from the center out in circular garter stitch lace, and cast off in a simple picot edging. Simply change yarn weight to vary the finished size. Use 930 yards of lace weight yarn to make a scarf 32" square; use 1700 yards of lace weight to make a shawl 52" square; use 1100 yards of Shetland or sport weight yarn to make a shawl 52" square; or use 1350 yards of worsted weight yarn to make a throw 60" square. Lace weight version knit on 16" and 24" circular and double-pointed 4mm (US 6) needles; Shetland or sport weight version is knit on 16" and 24" circular and double-pointed 5.5 (US 9) needles; Worsted weight version knit on 16" and 32" circular and double-pointed needles 6.5mm (US 10 1/2) needles.
