Instructions:
With size 1 dpn, cable cast-on (see Knitty.com for illustrated instructions) 16/24/24 st.
Rows 1 and 2: Sl1, K1 across, turn.

Hold two size 1 dpns parallel to each other; call one the "front" needle, the other the "back" needle. Carefully distribute your cast-on stitches alternately to these needles (slip first cast-on stitch to front needle, second to back, third to front, fourth to back, etc.). You will have 8/12/12 sts on each needle. Slip 4/6/6 sts from one of the needles to another size 1 dpn. Your working yarn should be positioned so that your first round of knitting starts with the 8/12/12-st needle. You've just knit a very short, closed-end tube inside out. Be sure to position the work so the smooth side is on the outside when you continue knitting in the round

Rnd 22: K1, M1L, K32, M1R, K2, M1L, K32, M1R, K1. (72 sts)
K 2 rnds even, then K 11/16/18 to shift BOR to center back of heel.

Work even in stockinette stitch (knit every round) until foot is approximately 1.75/2.25/2.5 inches shorter than desired length of sock, measuring from beginning of toe. End round at end of instep stitches

Heel:
Transfer the 22/32/36 instep stitches to a piece of smooth yarn. Slipping them onto a piece of yarn will reduce the tendency to create a gap at the corner of the heel. You will be working a short-row heel on the remaining 22/32/36 sts on two dpns, working back and forth.

Round 1 (RS): K21/31/35, SRW, turn
Round 2 (WS): P20/30/34, SRW, turn
Round 3 (RS): K19/29/33, SRW, turn
Round 4 (WS): P18/28/32, SRW, turn
Continue in this manner, working one less stitch each row until 8/10/12 stitches remain unworked at center heel, ending on the wrong side. The last row worked will be a purl row.

Turn Heel:
Next row: K across all heel sts, picking up wraps as explained in Notes. Turn.
Next row: Sl1, P across, picking up wraps. Turn.
Next row: Sl1, K 14/20/24, SRW, turn.
Next row: P8/10/12, SRW, turn.
Next row: K 9/11/13, picking up and knitting wrap in 9th/11/13th st, SRW, turn.
Next row: P 10/12/14, picking up and knitting wrap in 10th/12th/14th st, SRW, turn.
Continue working in this manner, working an additional st and working the wrapped st each row until all but last 2 wrapped st have been worked. Your last row will be: P 20/30/34, SRW, turn.

Replace instep sts on dpn.

Next round: K20/30/34, pu and K wrap in 21st/31st/35th st, K across instep sts, pu and K wrap in next st, K across 11/16/18 sts, ending at center back of heel. (If there is a gap at the "corners," you may want to pick up an extra stitch from the row below between the instep and heel sts. Dec the extra st away by k2tog on following rnd.)

Continue leg portion in st st. Begin ribbing when sock is 1.5"/ 2"/ 3" less than desired length:

Round 1: K1, (P1, K2) to last st, K1.
Repeat this round for 1.5"/ 2"/ 3".

Use larger dpn as right needle to bind off loosely in pattern. Make second sock.
