LINGONBERRY SCARF

With lace motifs from Knitted Lace of Estonia (p. 139 and 148) by Nancy Bush, this elegant scarf design is suitable for knitting in a variety of fine yarns.

Approx. 6 inches wide by 40 inches long after blocking, measurements taken from sample shown in elann.com Baby Silk

Materials:
- 2 balls of elann.com Peruvian Baby Silk
or
- 2 balls of elann.com Peruvian Baby Cashmere
or
- 1 ball of elann.com Super Kydd
or
- 1 ball of elann.com Peruvian Baby Lace Merino
- 3.75mm (US 5) needles, OR SIZE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN GAUGE
- 1 large stitch holder
- yarn needle

Gauge:
22 sts = 4 inches, over Lingonberry pattern stitch after blocking

Lingonberry pattern: multiple of 10 sts + 1, pattern is given here for swatch purposes only
Row 1, 3, 5, 7: K1, *ssk, k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, k2tog, k1; rep from * across, ending with ssk, k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, k2tog, k1.
Row 2 and all even rows : Purl across row.
Row 9, 11, 13, 15: K1, *yo, k2, k2tog, k1, ssk, k2, yo, k1; rep from * across, ending with yo, k2, k2tog, k1, ssk, k2, yo, k1.

Instructions:
Edging piece only:
Cast on 35 stitches with the yarn of your choice (use Baby Lace Merino held 2 strands together).
Knit 2 rows.
Work as follows in edging pattern or by following Edging Chart rows 1-12.
Row 1: K2, ssk, k3, yo, k1, *yo, k3, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k3, yo, k1; rep from * one more time, yo, k3, k2tog, k2.
Row 2 and all even rows: K across.
Row 3: K2, ssk, k2, yo, k2, *k1, yo, k2, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k2, yo, k2; rep from * one more time, k1, yo, k2, k2tog, k2.
Row 5: K2, ssk, k1, yo, k2tog, yo, k1, *, yo, ssk, yo, k1, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k1, yo, k2tog, yo, k1; rep from * one more time, yo, ssk, yo, k1, k2tog, k2.
Row 7: K2, ssk, yo, k2tog, yo, k2, *k1, yo, ssk, yo, sl 1, k2tog, psso, yo, k2tog, yo, k2; rep from * one more time, k1, yo, ssk, yo, k2tog, k2.
Row 9: K3, k2tog, yo, k3, *k2, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo, k3; rep from * one more time, k2, yo, ssk, k3.
Row 11: K2, ssk, yo, k4, *k3, yo, sl 1, k2tog, psso, yo, k4; rep from * one more time, k3, yo, k2tog, k2.
Row 12: K2, p31, k2.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail (approx. 36" long). Set aside on stitch holder.

Main scarf:
Work as for edging piece only to end of Row 12.
Continue scarf by working Lingonberry pattern as follows or by following Lingonberry Chart rows 1-16.
Row 1, 3, 5, 7: K3, yo, k2, k2tog, k1, *ssk, k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, k2tog, k1; rep from * one more time, ssk, k2, yo, k3.
Row 2 and all even rows: K2, p31, k2.
Row 9, 11, 13, 15: K3, ssk, k2, yo, k1, *yo, k2, k2tog, k1, ssk, k2, yo, k1; rep from * one more time, yo, k2, k2tog, k3.
Row 16: K2, p31, k2.
Continue to work rows 1-16 of Lingonberry pattern or chart, repeating as necessary until desired length, ending with Row 7.

FINISHING: Loosely graft together the 2 scarf pieces leaving a long tail. Sew in the other ends. Wet block your scarf, easing the tension of the graft if necessary. Let dry, sew in end from graft.

Abbreviations:
k - knit, k2tog - Knit two together, p - purl, sl 1, k2tog, psso - Slip one stitch as if to knit. Knit the next two stitches together. Pass the slipped stitch over the stitches that were knit together as if to bind off, ssk - Slip one stitch as if to knit, slip a second stitch as if to knit. Insert the left hand needle into the back of the two slipped stitches on the right hand needle, and knit the stitches together, Yo - Yarn over.
