Easy to knit and wear, smoke rings are an elegant alternative to scarves. A touch of lace followed by the soothing delight of stockinette stitch worked in silky soft yarn. Treat yourself and a friend for less than $20!

Experience:
Intermediate.

Size:
20 inches wide by 16 inches long after blocking.

Materials:
- 2 skeins of elann.com Undyed Superwash Merino Silk (sample was knit in the undyed yarn, yarn can also be dyed using Country Classic Dyes)
- 3.5mm (US 4) circular needles (16" length), adjust needle size as necessary to achieve gauge
- stitch marker

Gauge:
24 sts/ 4 inches on 3.5mm needles over stockinette stitch after blocking

INSTRUCTIONS:
Cast on 144 stitches, join to work in the round, placing marker to indicate beginning of round.
Work rounds 1-23 following chart, or as follows,

Round 1: Knit.
Round 2: Purl.
Round 3: *K2tog, YO*, rep between **s around.
Round 4: Purl.
Round 5: *P1, K8, P1, K8*, rep between **s around.
Round 6: Rep round 5.
Round 7: *P1, YO, K3, SSK, K3, P1, K3, K2tog, K3, YO*, rep between **s around.
Round 8: *P1, K1, YO, K3, SSK, K2, P1, K2, K2tog, K3, YO, K1*, rep between **s around.
Round 9: *P1, K2, YO, K3, SSK, K1, P1, K1, K2tog, K3, Yo, K2*, rep between **s around.
Round 10: *P1, K3, YO, K3, SSK, P1, K2tog, K3, YO, K3*, rep between **s around.
Rounds 11-14: Rep rounds 7-10.
Rounds 15-18: Rep rounds 7-10.
Rounds 19-21: Rep round 5.
Round 22: Purl
Round 23: Rep round 3.

Knit 3 rounds.
Decrease round: *K10, K2tog*, rep between **s around. (132 sts)
Work in stockinette stitch (knit every round) until work measures 16" from beginning.
Work rounds 2-4 once more.
Cast off all stitches. Block gently.

Abbreviations:
K = knit, K2tog = knit 2 stitches together, P = purl, rep = repeat, SSK = slip next two stitches, one at a time, to right needle as follows: slip the first stitch knitwise and the second stitch purlwise. Insert tip of left needle into fronts of these stitches, from left to right. Knit them together., YO = yarn over.
