MARQUISE GAUNTLETS

by Sarah Bales, www.knitsisters.com

I have always loved the romantic look of sleeves that end in a loop around the middle finger. With the current popularity of wristlets, I thought it would be fun to make wristlets that are tensioned on the hand in this way. A long, opera length adds some drama and the cable pattern adds visual complexity. For the knitter, the unusual cable decrease method adds interest. The 2 x 2 rib stretches to accommodate a wide range of sizes.

These gauntlets are a quick-knitting gift and may be modified in any number of ways. Don't have the time to knit to opera length? The gauntlets may easily be shortened—just knit 2-3 inches before starting the chart. Need them to be a smaller circumference? Use DK weight yarn such as elann.com Peruvian Highland Silk and smaller needles or take out a repeat of the 2 x 2 rib. Want a larger size? Add a repeat of rib or use an aran weight yarn such as elann.com Peruvian Sierra Aran or elann.com Peruvian Uros Aran with larger needles.
