ESPRIT SQUARE NECK SUMMER TANK

Sizes: XS, S, M, L - finished bust 30 (32, 34, 36"); finished length 19 (19.5, 20, 20").
Esprit knitted fabric is very stretchy, and tank is designed to be close fitting. To determine the size that will suit you best, wearing a bra, measure your bust at its widest point, and choose a finished bust size 3" to 4" smaller than this.

Materials:
4 (4, 5, 5) balls of elann.com Esprit, shown in 2138 Mauve.
1 ball of elann.com Sonata, shown in 2138 Mauve.
4.5mm (US 7) knitting needles.
3.5mm (E) crochet hook.
Stitch holder.

Gauge:
Measured over stockinette, 24 sts = 4".
Take time to check gauge.

Stitch Patterns:
Pattern A (Double Twisted Drop Stitch):
Rows 1, 3 , 5 and 7: Knit.
Row 2, 4 and 6: Purl.
Row 8: Insert right needle knitwise into each st, wrapping yarn around both needles once, then around right needle once more.
Row 9: Rep. Row 8.
Row 10: Knit.
Repeat rows 1-10.
Pattern B:
Rows 1, 3, 5 and 7: Knit
Row 2 , 4 and 6: Purl
Row 8: Knit
Repeat rows 1-8.

Back:
With 4.5mm (US 7) knitting needles and elann.com Esprit, cast on 90 (96, 102, 108) sts. Work Pattern A for 10 rows, then begin shaping: dec 1 st each side and then every 6th row 4 (4, 5, 5) times - 80 (86, 90, 96) sts. Work even until piece measures approximately 5.5 (5.75, 6, 6.25)", inc 1 st each side and then every 6th row 4 (4, 5, 5) times – 90 (96, 102, 108) sts. After Pattern A has been worked 9 times, change to Pattern B. Cont until piece measures 12 (12.5, 13, 13)".
Underarm Shaping: Bind off 6 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off 1 st at beg of next 2 rows 4 times – 70 (76, 82, 88) sts. Cont in Pattern B st until piece measures 14 (14.5, 15, 15)", ending with a wrong side row.
Begin Neck Shaping: K 14 (15, 16, 17) sts, join another ball of yarn, bind of the center 42 (46, 50, 54) sts and continue to knit the last 14 (15, 16, 17) sts. Cont in Pattern B st, working both sides at once, until piece measures 19 (19.5, 20, 20)". Leave the remaining sts on holder.

Front:
Work as for back, including all shaping.
Bind off shoulder seams:
Hold back and front with right sides together and the needles parallel, insert a third needle knitwise into the first stitch of each needle, wrap the yarn around the needle as if to knit. Knit these two stitches together and slip them off the needles, knit the next two stitches together in the same way. Slip the first stitch on the third needle over the second stitch and off the needle.

Instructions for Popcorns:
1. Work five dcs into one stitch. Take the hook out of the working loop and insert it into the top of the first double crochet made, from front to back.
2. Pick up the working loop and draw this through to close the popcorn.

With 3.5mm (E) crochet hook and elann.com Sonata, pick up a st at the bottom of a side seam.
Row 1: Ch 1 (counted as 1 sc) Work 1 sc into each st. of the bottom edge. – 90 (96, 102, 108 scs). End with a sl st into ch1.
Row 2: Ch 3, (counted as 1 dc), ch 5, skip first 5 sc, dc 1 into next sc, ch 5, skip 5 sc, dc 1 into next sc.** ; rep from * to ** around the edge. End with a slip st into the 3rd ch of the first ch3.
Row 3: ch 3 (counted as 1dc in popcorn), work 1 popcorn into the first dc, *skip ch 5 sp, work 1 popcorn into next dc, ch 5, work 1 popcorn into the same dc.** Rep from * to ** around. End with ch 5, slip st into the first popcorn.
Row 4: slip st into the first and second ch in next ch 5 arch. Ch 1, sc 1 into the same ch 5 arch. *ch 7, sc 1 into next 5ch arch* * Rep. From * to ** around. End with ch 7, slip st on the first sc. Fasten off.


Sew side seams.

Armhole Edging and Neck Finishing:
With 3.50 crochet hook and elann.com Sonata, crochet 1 round sc. And then slip st around each sc. Fasten off. Weave in all ends. Block.
