CABLED CHEMO HAT

Experience: Intermediate.

Size: Adult, one size fits most.

Materials:
1 ball in each of 2 colors elann.com Esprit (98.3% cotton/ 1.7% elastic, 100 yards (relaxed) per 50-gram ball), or 2 balls of a single color. Shown in 6297 Spring Orchid (color A) and 8001 Bright White (color B).
1 pair 4.5mm (US 7) knitting needles.
1 set 4.5mm (US 7) double pointed knitting needles.
Cable needle.
1 stitch marker.

Gauge: 25 sts = 4” (10 cm)

Special Stitches:
1/1 RC Sl 1 st to cn and hold to back, k1, k1 from cn
1/1 LC Sl 1 st to cn and hold to front, k1, k1 from cn
2/1 RPC Sl 1 st to cn and hold to back, k2, p1 from cn
2/1 LPC Sl 2 st to cn and hold to front, p1, k2 from cn

METHOD
Wide Cabled Band:
With pair of needles and color A, CO 24 sts.
Row 1: (WS) K2, p4, k2, p2, k8, p4, k2.
Row 2: P2, 1/1LC, 1/1 RC, p7, 2/1 RPC, p2, 1/1 LC, 1/1 RC, p2.
Row 3: K2, p4, k2, p2, k8, p4, k2.
Row 4: P2, 1/1 RC, 1/1 LC, p6, 2/1 RPC, p3, 1/1RC, 1/1 LC, p2.
Row 5: K2, p4, k4, p2, k6, p4, k2.

Row 167: K2, p4, k3, p2, k7, p4, k2.
Row 168: Bind off.

Fold band so that top & bottom edges meet to form center back seam, and sew together.

Bottom edging:
Around 1 edge of band, RS facing, using dpns and color B, pick up 84 stitches, distributed evenly on 3 needles, and join, placing a marker for end of rnd.
Rnd 1: K1, p1 to end.
Rnd 2: P1, k1 to end.
Repeat these 2 rnds (seed stitch) for 10 rnds and bind off in pattern.

Top of hat:
Around other edge of band, RS facing, using dpns and color B, pick up 84 stitches, distributed evenly on 3 needles, and join, placing a marker for end of rnd.

Rnd 1: K1, p1 to end.
Rnd 2: P1, k1 to end. (seed stitch)
Rnd 3: K1, p1 to end.
Rnd 4: P1, k1 to end.
Rnd 5: (K12, K2tog) 6 times (78 sts)
