BED OF ROSES SHAWL

This circular shawl is made up of lace rose buds bordered by simple leaves and an eyelet fence. It is inspired by all the beautiful rose bushes that start budding out at this time of year. The construction is done in the round with a stockinette stitch background.

Experience Level:
Intermediate.

Size: Approximately 60" wide across. The shawl can easily be made larger by adding more repeats of the rose buds or leaves. Figure about 2 extra balls of yarn per additional repeat.

Materials:
- 14 balls elann.com Luna
- 4.5mm (US 7) 32” or 40” circular needle
- 4.5mm (US 7) double pointed needles (1 set of 5)

Gauge:
18sts and 24 rows to 4” in stockinette stitch

Rose Bud Lace Pattern:
Multiple of 8 stitches
Round 1: * Yo, k2, p3tog, k2, yo, k1. Repeat from * to end of round.
Round 2: Knit.
Round 3: Repeat round 1.
Round 4: Knit.
Round 5: Repeat round 1.
Round 6: Knit.
Round 7: K1, * k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, p3tog. Repeat from * to end of round. Note that for the last p3tog, you will need to borrow the first stitch of the next round.
Round 8: Knit.
Round 9: Repeat round 7.
Round 10: Knit.
Round 11: Repeat round 7.
Round 12: Knit.

Repeat rounds 1-12.

Leaf Lace Pattern:
Multiple of 9 stitches
Round 1: Knit.
Round 2: Knit.
Round 3: * K2tog, k1, yo, k6. Repeat from * to end of round.
Round 4: K1, * k1, yo, k6, k2tog. Repeat from * to end of round. Note that for the
last k2tog, you will need to borrow the first stitch of the next round.
Round 5: * K1, yo, k6, k2tog. Repeat from * to end of round.
Round 6: * Yo, k6, k2tog, k1. Repeat from * to end of round.
Round 7: Knit.
Round 8: Knit.
Round 9: * K6, yo, k1, ssk. Repeat from * to end of round.
Round 10: K1, * k6, yo, k1, ssk. Repeat from * to end of round. Note that for the last ssk, you will need to borrow the first stitch of the next round.
Round 11: * Ssk, k6, yo, k1. Repeat from * to the end of round.
Round 12: * K1, ssk, k6, yo. Repeat from * to the end of round.

Repeat rounds 1-12.

Instructions:
Using double pointed needles, cast on 8 sts, dividing the stitches so that there are 2 stitches per needle. Place a marker to mark the beginning of the round. Knit 2 rounds.

Round 3: * Yo, k1. Repeat from * to end of round. (16 sts)
Rounds 4 and 5: Knit.
Round 6: * Yo, k1. Repeat from * to end of round. (32 sts)
Rounds 7 and 8: Knit.
Round 9: * Yo, k2tog. Repeat from to end of round.
Rounds 10 and 11: Knit.
Round 12: * Yo, k1. Repeat from * to end of round. (64 sts)
Rounds 13-24: Work one repeat (rounds 1-12) of the rose bud lace pattern.
Round 25: * Yo, k1. Repeat from * to end of round. (128 sts) At this point, you will want to switch to the circular knitting needle in order to accommodate all of the stitches.
Rounds 26-49: Work two repeats of the rose bud lace pattern.
Round 50: * Yo, k1. Repeat from * to end of round. (256 sts)
Rounds 51-98: Work 4 repeats of the rose bud lace pattern.
Round 99: * Yo, k1. Repeat from * to end of round. (512 sts)
Rounds 100-171: Work 6 repeats of the rose bud lace pattern. On the very last rose bud of the very last repeat, p2tog rather than p3tog to end with 513 sts.
Rounds 172-189: Work 1˝ repeats of the leaf lace pattern (rounds 1-12 once, followed by rounds 1-6).
Rounds 190 and 191: Knit.
Round 192: * Yo, k2tog. Repeat from * to last st, end yo, k1. (514 sts)
Round 193: * K2tog, yo. Repeat from * to last st.
Round 194: * Yo, k2tog. Repeat from * to last st.
Round 195: Knit.

Bind off using the k2tog method as follows: Working in a slightly looser gauge, knit two stitches from the left hand needle on to the right hand needle. Slip these stitches back to the left hand needle one stitch at a time. Knit the two stitches together. *Knit the next stitch. Slip these stitches back to the left hand needle one stitch at a time. Knit the two stitches together. Repeat from * until there is one stitch remaining. Break off the yarn and pull it through the loop. This bind off will give the edge of the shawl a subtle ruffle.

Weave in all ends. Use the tail at the center of the shawl to close any gap.

Wash and block.
