The Lotus Blossom Shawl uses two traditional Shetland lace patterns, Razor Shell and Madeira Wave, to create the suggestion of graceful lotus blossoms on long stems. The shawl is worked by casting on three stitches at the middle top of the shawl, and then increasing down the center and side edges to create a triangular shape, ending with bobbles at the bottom edge. This pattern has clear instructions with large, easy-to-use charts.
Suitable for advanced beginners or intermediate knitters, the shawl can be knit in a DK weight for a finished measurement 70" across top edge by 35" from neck to longest point using 6 balls of Fiddlesticks Knitting Silk Sensation (100% silk – DK weight – 19-23 st/4" - 125 yards per 50g ball) or 750 yards in a substitute yarn of similar gauge and weight. It also can be knit in a lace weight for a finished measurement 68" across top edge x 34" from neck to longest point using just 3 balls of Fiddlesticks Knitting Lace Sensation (100% silk - 25-30 st/4" - 261 yards per 50g ball) or 783 yards in a substitute yarn of similar gauge and weight.
Soft and luxurious, our Baby Lace Merino and Silken Kydd Version was knit by Flora Yang holding 1 strand of lace weight with 1 strand of fine mohair. She used just 2 balls of Baby Lace Merino and 4 balls of Silken Kydd.
