If you multiply 28 (single strand gauge) by 0.72, you will get 20.16 stitches = 4 inches for a doubled strand, so you are right on.

Run to start some mindless knitting. Always take it with you for practice sessions, and knit and knit - makes you look more serene.
Neither of my children (now 27 and 25) have actually got their driver`s licenses, but I have knit several pairs of socks during road practice. DS had a go about 4 years ago during the transit strike in Vancouver. He solved the problem before he actually took the road test by moving less than a 10min walk from work. DD wrote the test in August after she came back from Singapore, but now has decided that she doesn`t really like driving. She has found an apartment close to Cook Street Village in downtown Victoria and bought a $35 bicycle at the auction. There is hope that `this too will pass`, but you must keep very calm - it`s just not much fun if mother doesn`t react at all.

What we call `moss stitch` is `seed stitch` south of the border. Our `double moss stitch` becomes just `moss stitch` when it crosses the 49th //. This really confused me as a kid, when I used an American pattern, until I got it sorted out that there were two languages just like two sets of needle numbers (pre-metric on Vancouver Island).

I`m with Benne, can`t you just picture me sitting in one of our local establishments in Ganges having coffee in Silver Midnight or Ruby Gold! Going out to dinner here is cotton poplin pants with sort of a crease and a clean T-shirt in summer and same pants with a long sleeved top in winter. Mark does wear one of his Icelandic sweaters for formal wear in the winter for Sunday dinner at our local hotel.

My Burned Out Brain

I was enticed into buying mine in my thrift store days (I was director of the store that supported the transition house for abused women and their children on the islands). We had had a difficult morning with various of our regular customer, `Dreadlocks`, `The Axe Murderer`, the `Clothesbashers`, etc, and then the husband of the woman who owns Watermark Books around the corner sauntered in and said, "Do you want to knit a boat?" After we stopped laughing, I just had to go and look, and buy, the book. It was a wonderful antidote to the community`s problems. It`s fun. At the June retreat this year I had everyone try a scribble lace scarf. If you haven`t seen the book, try to find it somewhere.

You could try posting her picture at your local senior` centre. There may well be a lonely recent widow or widower who would really benefit from her companionship. Having a cat can add years to these people`s lives. Maybe pose her on a piece of knitting to show how domesticated she is.

Off to Wales
|
DD and I are off to Wales on Monday until the 14th to interview houses for a retreat in Sept/Oct of 2007. We`ll be back in plenty of time for the Elannites arriving for the Knit-In the following Saturday.
We are looking at seven houses, two in the south, three in the north and two just over the border in England. Specially seeking large, bright, comfortable room for knitting, good kitchen for Jenny, and lots and lots of bathrooms, all with spectacular scenery, close to a traditional village, and within easy reach of a train station! We`ll find it!
One that we are looking at is a huge `mansion` which certainly looks the part on the internet. All that we have chosen are interesting, but in different ways. I showed the printouts to Naomi and Patti when they were here a couple of weeks ago, but they were very discreet about which they liked best.
Will post all about it when we get back.
