Hi Bri Salt Spring Island is just to the west of Galiano. Yes, we look like that, too. My house looks south down Sansum Narrows between Salt Spring and Vancouver Island. We can see the tips of the Olympic Mountains in Washington State over the hills on Vancouver Island. Sunset Farm looks west across Stuart Channel to Vancouver Island. No, we don`t have hurricanes and only get about 30 inches of rain a year. Yes, University of Victoria has a programme on aging. Yes, you really want to come.

Schoeller Stahl Pullover Help
|
Join us, NJane. This is a great group.
The `yarn over twice` technique the way Bets has explained it is very useful for a lacy look without a lot of work and counting. I`ve just finished a pair of fingerless mitts as a sample for the retreat next week which combined rows of yarn over twice and rows of yarn over three times with rows of beading for the back of the hands - quick, easy, very effective.

What`s the hardest thing you`ve ever knitted that turned out?
|
It`s not the knitting at the moment, but what to do with IT now that it`s knitted. I`m knitting up samples for next week`s Embellishments retreat. I bought a ball of what I thought was a pretty yarn for flowers. It`s a wool and rayon ribbon that ranges from charcoal, through scarlet, shades of rose, to soft grey. Full of enthusiasm, I knit the Ribbon Rose from "Knitting with Ribbon Yarn". Everything was fine until I get to the part "To finish: Begin with the smallest petal (cast-on end) and roll it tightly into a coil. The top edges of each petal curl over to form a flower. Arrange and sew each form into place." Sounds simple enough, doesn`t it, but all I get is, not a softly curved rose like the one in the picture, just something that looks like fungus growing on the back side of a tree in the rain forest. I`ve coiled it, sewn it, and unsewn it at least six times. Refusing to let it defeat me, I think I`ll just let it be fungus if that`s what it really wants to be, and knit it a tree. Naomi, you`ll laugh when you see it.

Sandra, tell me more about your Einstein coat
|
It`s the best winter coat around for the West Coast climate. Although it`s thick and heavy, it`s not bulky looking on. Great for the car. I knit mine large enough so that it has a good overlap in front (winter on the ferry), and never did sew on buttons. It just clings to itself. It would look fine on you Barbara, the length balances the width - don`t make it too short.

Help - short rows for neckline
|
There should be a marker at each end of the 32 stitches which you pick up across the front neckline- 2nd marker would be at right front The short rows make the ribbing deeper on this straight part of the front neckline than on the sides or back, so that it is not TOO plunging.

Hey Les, how`s the pie quest going?
|
I bought some `genuine` wild saskatoon berry jam the other day. It`s rather sweet and has lost the tanginess that I remember. Too much sugar masks the flavour. So, don`t make your pie too sweet.

Cat Bordhi in November
|
Billie, e-mail me off-list before you go any farther with this - truemana@telus.net
Jasper in November? I called Banff home for several years, and November was the worst month of the year. Maybe it is better in Jasper. My most vivid November memory in standing in Brewster Creek with swirling glacial water almost to the top of my rubber boots, washing horse blankets to get them clean enough to take to the laundromat. Thirty-six horses used a lot of blankets over the summer and fall. All the hand-knitted socks and sweaters that I could get on under my boots and wind jacket could not begin to keep me warm. How about inviting us for another time of year? Late September after the tourists have gone home?

Who`s online that can help me...?
|
I`ve knitted this one, but can`t remember exactly, and I think I sent it to DD. I think that I knitted both bases with one ball of yarn. I would have used the tips of the needles rather than another ball - I knit continental so use the tips a lot.
I can`t knit it right now as I need to take a carload of stuff up to Jenny at the farm, but I`ll give it a whirl whilst I am waiting for knitters to arrive. I`ll ask Naomi if she will try it too. SO, hang in until tonight and I`ll send an update.
I`ve knitted a number of items in this book, they tend to have tricks, but always work out well in the end. I sent the Sheer One-Piece Shawl to DD`s roommate in Singapore at Christmas - in rayon ribbon with short colour repeats in black, cream, camel, and scarlet - just gorgeous and very quick.
