Roll Call: What I knitted over the Labor Day Weekend! You would think that on a long week-end I would get something knitted - just did a bit on the fair isle.
Sarah stood up in a wedding - so we had rehersal dances and wedding receptions etc to keep us busy. My home computer is down - not sure what it needs. DH wants about 8 PI reports typed etc etc. Knitting always seems to be the last on everyones list but mine in my house!!! Really want to get this sweater done before the camel comes. Found three nice scarf patterns, but don`t have the mag with me to tell you the issue. Will try to remember to bring it with me tomorrow.

Fall Fiber Festival Hi! Just wondering if by chance anyone is planning on going to the Fall Fiber Festival in the Virginia Mountains this week - end?? Sort of like Maryland, but on a smaller scale.
9/28/2004 8:38:59 AM
Fall Fiber Festival It is at Montpelier, the home of James and Dolly Madison. It has a sampling of different types of sheep, and llamas etc. and a big sheep dog trial. It is always the first full week-end in October. Lots of booths with fiber, yarn, books and equipment, spinning and weaving etc. Some classes, usually scottish highlands dancing etc. It is just a nice relaxing day. I have been going for many years - the last few years we have camped over night. I am not sure if I will camp this year or not - depends on the weather and just how I feel.
It is located near Orange, Virginia. Not too far from Richmond, farther west into the foot hills of the mountains.

Fall Fiber Festival I don`t live all that far from you! I am in Roanoke Rapids, NC - just over the Virginia line. Let me know if you are coming. I am easy to pick out of a crowd. Also, I have good friends with a booth. We could set a time and meet there.
I probably wouldn`t have remembered Madison either, but my kids use to take the tours and would just fill me with all the facts. They really enjoyed that.

The Chartreuse Shepherd Hey Cate! I sent you an e-mail, but have not heard back yet. My at home computer is not working, so... I should be at work tomorrow, but just in case I am not (I have a bunch of things to take care of at home and I just might call in sick???? we will see. I haven`t taken a day this year yet) I wrote how I have been watching the weather for the week-end in Orange and it has changed since the report yesterday. What day are you planning on going??
My e-mail is theneedletree@yahoo.com and my home number is (252)537-7607 and if by chance we don`t get in contact with each other, if I am there, I will plan on being at the Wild and Wooley Farm booth at noon. You can ask Hope or Bev if I am there and they will know. My name is Cheryl Thiel
Hope things work out, I would enjoy visiting with you. I think we have a lot in common. I use to raise, train and show dogs - Irish Setter`s and Golden Retrievers.

The Chartreuse Shepherd & Cate meet It was a wonderful week-end! My first impression of Cate.... well, I had read her biography but she had not posted a picture of herself, but she had said that she was 58, so I had a mental picture of what I thought she would look like. When she greeted me, the thought running through my head was that this isn`t the right person, or she made a mistake on the bio??? She is the youngest looking 58 year old that I have ever seen! We had a great time talking and compairing notes. She is a woman of many talents! I left really inspired to try some new things. Her dogs are great - but if you don`t like dogs or are a little afraid of them, it wouldn`t be the place to be. Unfortunately she couldn`t go to the festival, but it was a perfect day! The weather couldn`t have been better. I met up with all my friends that go every year. I bought lots of yarn, Romney wool yarn, worsted weight, lots of different colors to have as a palette to work some more fair aisle sweaters, and then some coopworth wool, carded and dyed, for me to spin to give me some more colors for the fair aisle (or maybe socks???) and some of the addi turbo needles. I have fallen in love with them so I am gradually getting a set. Also bought some soles for slippers and a wool seat belt cover. I am having a terrible time this morning getting back in the `teaching grove`!

The Chartreuse Shepherd & Cate meet The Fall fiber festival at Montpilier (the first full week-end in October) and Maryland (the first week-end in May)are my two week-ends a year. Thank goodness there are only two, I am paying for this one. I just can`t get myself together for the life of me. I want to be knitting, don`t want to be teaching and my house didn`t get any attention while I was gone and the laundry is still sitting there! Oh well, ...

Bets, camel hair never looked so good on a camel! Haven`t decided what to do with my camel - I had read an article about a similar yarn, and it stated that because it is so loosley woven and fairly short staple fiber that she was careful not to choose a pattern that put stress on the stitches. Did you find any problem knitting 4 together? What size needle did you use?? Did you use one or two strands of yarn together?? How wide and long did it turn out? with how much yarn?? I started the camel I bought for my husband a scarf - It is very basic. 6" wide, on 3 needles About an inch of seed stitch, then garter stitch. I did put his initial on one end with a change in stitch. I got almost 100 square inches from one skein. (I am trying to figure out how much I will need for a cardigan - hope to have enough left over to make a pretty lacy scarf also. - bought 21 of that color)Oh well... your scarf is very pretty.

Bets, camel hair never looked so good on a camel! I bought the mocha for my husbands scarf and the parchment for my sweater and hopefully enough left over for a lacy scarf! I really like the mocha - kind of wish I had bought that for my sweater! Oh well, too late now!!

Baby Camel sweater trouble Haven`t tried that pattern `yet` but was thinking of maybe doing it. Other than the trouble at the neck, how does it look? Using two strands together, how much yarn is it taking for what size??? Hope someone can help you out on the neck!!

Baby Camel sweater trouble That doesn`t sound right does it?!?! I`m not good at such things. I usually don`t end up following the pattern, I just do what I think. I was even thinking of trying to make it into a cardigan?? Also had found a pattern that was 6st/in and was considering that but it would take soooooo long to make up! Good luck....let me know what you end up doing and how it turns out!!!!
