Calculating yardage-formula Just read an article on this in the Spring 2003 Inerweave Knits by Lori Gayle How Much Yarn Do I Need, A mathematical Approach. Interesting

weather in maryland I am so excited to meet everyone - I hope I can meet you all in person at the festival! When I get home from school today (I teach), I will try to get a photo and post a bio also. I am easy to find, I think. I am tall, about 50 and had an accident a number of years ago that left me with difficulty walking. I spend a fair amount of time at the Wild and Wooly booth - I think it is barn 3??? end booth. They raise Coopworth sheep and she dyes and sells wool. Any of you all spin?? Cheryl

advance party report-theresa,eileen,benne reporting Hey you`all! Didn`t see the meeting place till too late!! Kept my eyes open for you, but.... anyway Saturday was beautiful wasn`t it? Husband happy - didn`t come home with any live animal, or fleeces!! ( I have too many as it is) Bought some yarn, a sweater kit, some silk to spin up and even some recycled clear plastic soda bottles to spin - not that I would like to have a sweater out of that, but thought my kids might like to see that when we do recycling in class?? Did anyone stay over for Sunday?? Did it rain? We decided that with rain in the forcast, that camping out didn`t sound too exciting, so we drove home. Hit rain on the way, and it has rained here ever since!

advance party report-theresa,eileen,benne reporting I am sorry also - but glad I found this site! I am in North Carolina. It is about a 5 hour drive to Maryland. I had planned to stay for both days, camp out overnite, but .... had arranged for a sub for Monday, (to recooperate.) Was glad I did as we had a baby lamb mid morning!

advance party report-theresa,eileen,benne reporting We have 9 sheep and a llama. Some meat breeds and some wool breeds. The wool from the meat animals we make into wool batts for quilts. The other wool I send off to get cleaned carded and made into roving. Not enough time to do it all myself anymore. I teach 2nd grade and I am working on my masters, plus the animals and family etc.
Where is everyone from?? I am in North Carolina.

advance party report-theresa,eileen,benne reporting I can see that from the entries. Scanned the bios - didn`t have much time to really read them. Will put mine up - tried to find a certain disc I had a picture of me on - I don`t take a lot of pictures of me ever. Anyway... are you in the mountains??

advance party report-theresa,eileen,benne reporting No, wish I was. My daughter is a student at Appalachian State in Boone (elevation is about 3333) but we are just south of the state line of Virginia over on I 95. Going east from us is flat, sandy coastal plains and west from us starts the rolling piedmont. Digital cameras can be tricky - I never did figure out my first one. Then I took a class for school and they gave us a nice camera that uses a floppy disc, so it is really easy to put on the computer. I just need a filing system, so I can find my discs later on when I need them!!

advance party report-theresa,eileen,benne reporting February 22 I have a Daughter, Sarah 20 and a son, Matthew 14 ! Guess I was a late bloomer!! I don`t feel grown up either - although my body hasn`t played fair with me over the years. Had an accident in 96 that left me with some disabilities and had breast cancer diagnosed in 99. But.... I keep going and that is all that counts!!!

advance party report-theresa,eileen,benne reporting There isn`t any option really is there - other than giving up and dying!! I`m not ready for that. Too much yarn to knit up!!!!

Here`s a survey for you I always think it is interesting to see what colors people are drawn to. When I had my shop, we would go to shows and have to try to guess what colors would go over. The other lady always went to the beige, brown, grey etc. and I would be ordering all the pretty colors. Personally, I like the greens (sage, chartreuse, teal, rather that grass green) and blues, purples, teal, pinks (from pale to fushia) etc. I am somewhat drawn to reds, cranberry reds, and I stay away from strong yellows (few people look good in a strong yellow), orange, golds, rust etc. I also wonder how much our color choices are influenced by fashion? In ten years, will we be liking the same colors???

How long would it take to knit up all your yarn w/o buying any more? My first reaction was, Not in this lifetime! I have yarn stashed everywhere - owned a yarn shop so have tons from that, and then a friends shop closed and I bought a lot from her. Not to mention tons of wool, llama, silk, mohair etc that is ready to dye and spin, some aready dyed waiting to spin and a bunch of wool from this spring`s shearing and still a few more to shear!!! I think I need to open my shop again!!!

Mango Moon Recycled Silk - Question for Ann I think it sounds interesting - I bet the colors are beautiful - silk dyes so well. I love the name, Mango Moon - I think I will have to name a lamb that. (we have had Moon Shine and Moon Shadow) I like the idea of recycling. I bought some fiber in Maryland that is recycled clear drink bottles shredded very fine that can be spun. I don`t think I would want a sweater of that, but thought my kids at school would like to see that when we talk about recycling!

the chartreuse shepherd has her bio up! You are a young looking 52 also!!!! Mine is thanks to make-up and hair dye!!lol We do seem to have a lot in common! I have a female named Yurba (she lays eggs every now and then). I found her in a pet shop with no feathers! I brought her home and she grew back the feathers and has done terrific. The male (we believe he is a male) is Oliver and I bought him from a `divorsed` home. Both are great talkers - they even baa like the sheep!! I tend to be a rescue type person. Max is a Golden Retriever from the dog pound - now getting quite old. Dixie is a rescue dog that we got - she is a three legged, blue eyed, hound dog! She is great!! I am really glad I found this site also and we will make sure we all meet next year in Maryland! I also go to a fall fiber festival the first week-end in October in the Virginia Mountains - near Orange. It is not as big as Maryland but always a good time.

Felting a purse? Hey! Machine felting may be the way to go, but let me put my two cents worth in. I do felting with unknitted, unspun wool so machine washing would be out of the question. I find that doing it by hand allows for control of size and shape. Have also done some needle felting.

The Chartreuse Shepard... Hey Marion - we are in Roanoke Rapids - where are you??
5/19/2004 1:19:38 PM
Felting a purse? I have made cell phone cases and stuffed stars and wall hangings etc. with hand felting and have made 3D things with the needle felting. My 2nd grade students this year dyed some wool with KoolAide and then I needle felted a carrot for our easter bunny. That was kind of a fun activity. I should try to do a purse and see how it goes. We will see - maybe when school is out-

The Chartreuse Shepard... Bet it is lovely on Oak Island!! Maybe that lady will get on and chat some??!! It is always nice `chatting` with people that enjoy the same things! (but I would get more knitting done, if I didn`t chat) My master`s classes start again this evening. And we are really loaded in school trying to get all the assessments and paperwork done, packing up the room etc. Well, my kidsa just came in the room -

Question-Debbie Bliss Number 2-Fair Isle Cardigan OK.... I am not really sure what you all are talking about, but the `fair isle cardigan` perked my interest! I love working fair isle and love wearing cardigans. (I bought a Philosopher`s Wool, fair isle cardigan kits while in Maryland that I am working on right now) Would like more info on what you are doing!!
Are you the Marion that did the pretty green tank top?? I really like that also! Hot here also - 93` today!!! Too hot for May
