Roll call-how does elann influence you? I am new to this group, well I have been lurking and reading the messages for quite a while. I love elann and I feel like I know all of you. When I come here and read the messages. I feel normal. I have a huge yarn stash that no one understands except my mom, she has a bigger stash.
I actually sell yarn and can buy wholesale but when I want yarn for me I buy from elann, The prices are great and I can buy just the amount I need for an item. I also make and sell items in our local craft markets. I am just finishing a sweater with the Turino silk. It is nice with stripes of 6 of the colours. I will post a picture when I am done. I really enjoy looking at what you are all making, Your work is beautiful, what a creative bunch.
It is nice to meet a group of people with the same passion as me. I would love to come to Salt Spring Island and meet you but I am not sure I can get away. Working on it.
I live on Quadra Island so not too far to come.

Has anyone swatched their silk? I knit a sweater out of the silk and I didn`t think it smells bad at all, knid of an earthy smell. I will post of picture of the sweater if I can figure out how to. It turned out nice. It only took 12 balls of yarn, 2 balls of each colour. I had enough left over to crochet a couple of hats. It is a size small. The silk is really nice to work with.

Shelmack! Silk cardi looks great! I will divulge my secret. I made it on my brother bulky knitting machine. I did the rib by hand but it only took 2 days to make. I love my knitting machine. The pattern was inspired by the elann newsletter with the swatches. The colours looked so good all together. I just used a basic raglan cardigan pattern and did the ribs 2 rows of each colour and then the body of the sweater 24 rows of each colour. I used 6 colours. Glad you like it.

Knitting Machine Question I have 2 knitting machnes, a passap and a brother bulky, I am realatively new to machine knitting but I have never heard of putting a garment together using the knitting machine but you can buy a linker which is for that purpose. Maybe that is the machine they were talking about.I would love a linker. I hate sewing sweaters together. I am lucky my mom takes pity on me and sews sweaters together for me.

September on Salt Spring I really want to come and so does my Mom but I need to find someone who can do respite for me. I have a special needs son. When do you need the deposit by. Also about the fair is this a place where we could sell crafts. My Mom and I sell at craft markets all summer so we would be intersted in a table if that is possible. Could you let me know about that. I live on Quadra Island, not too far from Salt Spring.

Shardigan patterns and Outback Wool and Mohair The Schachenmayr Goa looks good with the outback mohair. I made a scarf with the Rainbow dream mohair
and silver ebony Goa. It looks neat. The Goa looks like metal and the outback is so fluffy it makes a great contrast. The Goa is really soft and shiny. I bought the antique silver to go with the Lavender sunset and it looks good together.
I am also making the pattern Magic Grid, page 86 of the Spring Knitters magazine with the Outback mohair and the Austerman tropicana. It looks good so far.
I am using Casablanca mohair and gold tropicana. Ithink the tropicana sold out. I will send some pictures so you can see how it looks together.

Let`s talk about the Lara I haven`t bought any of this yet as I have sooooooooo much cotton to knit up. You make it sound so good. I had the knitable sample and it was really soft but I resisted. Do you think the Lara would knit up into nice lacy scarves on big needles if so I will have to buy some. Let me know what you think.

Knitting machines are fun I have been reading the posts about all the people who have new knitting machines and are nervous to use them. Well fear not. I love my knitting machines. They are a very useful tool. The knitting machine instructions are written for people who know nothing about knitting at all so you all have a huge advantage. I combine hand knitting and machine knitting all the time. On my bulky machine, much like your bond machines. I cast on by hand onto needles and then put it on the machine. Make sure you use big enough needles for the cast on and then put weights on your stitches then knit. I even will do rib by hand and then put the stitches on the machine to finish the sweater. lately I have been trying to do lace borders by hand then the boring st st on the machine and it works just fine.
You need to experiment and have fun. If you need any help I will help you however I can. I have a passap machine for finer knit items and a Brother bulky. I am no expert but I know a fair bit.

Shelly, love your hat! Thanks. It looks better in person. The mohair just adds so much to this hat. I will make more of these. I think they will be a good seller this winter.

I just got a huge box from elann! You can probably knit the outback on the bond. If it is too thick you just use every second needle. The Outback is great isn`t it.

Your turn, Benne! Your square is great. The machine is so different from hand knitting but there is lots you can do on it. You can easily do lace and cables, I`m not sure how easy fair Isle would be on the bond but your directions should say.
Knitting machines are frustrating to learn but very worth it. I consider stuff I knit on the machine hand knit as my hand does the knitting. If it hand manipulated cables or lace same thing. If people ask me I tell them I knit by hand and machine but most people can`t tell where the hand knit ends and the machine knit begins.
Keep trying I wish I could help you learn some things. Just ask if you want help

socks It could be sturdy enough if you knit the heels and toes with a nylon reinforcing thread alond with it. The hard thing is to match the colour. I made a pair of pure wool socks last year and they wore out in 2 weeks, I also made a pair of pure alpaca and they lasted a month. I found out about the reinforcing thread after I made those. There is some available here at Elann - Schoeller Esslinger Stopf-und Beilaufgarn - I is only .75 for a 5gr card.
Personally I use the sock yarn now as it lasts really long and you can wash it in the washer and dryer.
