How I Lost My Knitting Time... Ahh, yes, books on tape... But not an option here. Daughter may only be into this for the good story, but I am into it for the reading practice, and whether we are taking turns on paragraphs (which we still do at the beginnings of chapters) or whether she is just following along with the words while I do all of the reading, it improves her reading ability exponentially... plus it`s a snuggle-thing. We just need to cut it back to a few hours, not stay in bed reading all darned day because we can`t put the book down... We really tried to cut it back today... we just did the first 8 chapters of book 2 and made ourselves stop. We went for a walk through the desert together after breakfast and Harry Potter was all we could talk about...

Hey, Corinna and those who have read these books... at what point do they start getting "scary?" I`ve heard that even the author says they began to take a turn for the dark at some point... can anyone identify a book? Like is it all cool through the first three or four, then it starts getting scarier in book five... or what?

I`d kinda like to slow down when we are approaching that point and make sure I don`t use these as the just-before-bed reading, you know, go for something a little lighter and save Harry for just the daylight reading. But right now we are soooo hooked!

okay, it`s official-MacChick is the enabler of the day Oh, no... you canNOT pin that label on me!!! This is UNbelievable!!!

All of you guys who went ON and ON and ON about Brilla until I finally broke down and bought some, and White Buffalo, until I finally broke down and bought some of that, and let`s not forget the recent ravings about the Araucania, because I was NO WAY going to buy that until you guys started a raid on it and I knew I had to at least TRY it before it was gone... geesh y`all had me dreaming about not getting any of it in time!

No, I am not the biggest enabler here... who was trying to suck me into the Ola vortex? Yah, I read that thread and did not even jump into that one... I knew I`d end up buying some, and I`m so not a fan of ribbon yarns, but it wouldn`t be the first time you guys had gotten me hooked on something I did not even want to try in the first place then ended up just absolutely NEEDING more of...

Now let`s get one thing straight: I am TRYING to save my buying for the next Endless Summer yarns, got it? I don`t know what they will be, but after the Peruvian Collection experience, I know that I will love the yarns, love the prices, and have to grab fast before all of you get all of the best colors.

There will be something that`s soft or something that`s silk-like or something with linen or something in the perfect shade of pink, or all of the above and more, and I will be sewing my butt off to get extra money to buy more yarn... and you guys will be egging me on to buy even more...

Isn`t it just like the ones who pound the bar with their mugs chanting "Drink! Drink! Drink!" to blame their binges on the one they`d goaded into drinking!

Aw, I tell ya... Let`s all buy just one more skein of Esprit and Sonata in matching colors, and maybe one more skein of that Schoeller Esslinger Piccadilly (that is soft and pretty, goes beautifully with Sonata for a contrast in finish... Sonata being a bit glossier... I`m gonna trim it with Sonata Orchid and Cream... it`s just that perfect shade of summer green, halfway between a sage and a mint... Have you guys tried that yet? Cheap enough to make an entire child`s summer dress out of!) and have a toast...

TO YARN AND MORE YARN! HUZZAH!

And admit that it`s nobody`s fault and everybody`s blessing and that yarn is the TRUE elixir of the Gods and all that...

WOW!!! I was a bit leery of trying Sonata last year, when it first appeared, but went ahead anyway, because of the gauge/yardage, and then absolutely fell in love! The cable construction is so fine and subtle you almost forget about it, but the yarn will never split because of it... and I`ve had great luck with it in the wear-and-tear department.

It makes beautiful and slinky lace, well-defined cables, it`s quick to knit with... you`re gonna fall in love with cotton just in time to spend your whole summer on it, and I, for one, can`t wait to see your projects!

Beautiful buttons site Who was calling who an "enabler"??????

Let`s see... now I want the Abalone Sweater Brooches, and the buttons in amber, abalone, rosewood, and horn...

Well, one good temptation deserves another, so if you ever thought about adding beads to any of your knitting, what would you say to genuine gemstone beads and genuine pearls that real people could genuinely afford?

Care to knit in some real Jade beads for a touch of class around the edges? A 16" strand of them, for about $6.31:

What little girl doesn`t need a sweater with real pearls knit into one row of the yoke? At $2.89 for a 16" strand, it`s really not that exotic... that`s for "C" grade pearls (you can get more expensive ones... I`m liking the "C" grade, because it won`t be a crisis if they come loose), but they still have that sheen that you only get from real pearls...

And what about Garnet beads? Really... little round beads made of genuine Garnets, 15" of them for $5.24... down the buttonhole side, so when it`s buttoned, you see: button, garnet, button, garnet...

Well, I`ll waste no more time on that... You probably already know about Fire Mountain anyway. Just had to try to make you spend as much money as you are trying to make me spend!

I AM HOLDING OUT FOR ENDLESS SUMMER YARNS! I JUST CAN`T WAIT TO SEE THE NEXT ONES!!!!

Anyone need a laugh today? o.k., o.k., panic here... that stuff only happens to people who have BOYS, right??? Right???? Right??????? Anybody????????????

Jeanflores, Oh, Your sweater!!! Your casual Cables cae out soooo perfectly lovely!!! I love the Uros bag photos, too, the colors you chose have that classic "jeans" look... very classy with either a t-shirt or a lace blouse!

But oh, that sweater... that reminds me of why I started knitting this thing!!! Gosh, it looks lovely!

Beautiful buttons site Yes, those buttons are amazing... and I may just splurge on some for this cas cables I`m working on, since it`s to be a special sweater for my sis (I want to be able to have it done to give her on the anniversary of her double-lung transplant, which we call her "other birthday.") So these might be the perfect buttons!

Fire Mountain... I`ve been thinking about knitting some gem beads into something for awhile. I orginally started getting them for sewing, I`m always sewing real pearls into the trim of DD`s homemade dresses, because grade C pearls are cheap, but they look so lovely. We even get the 2mm size to sew onto the trim of homemade Barbie clothes,. Been thinking about some of those garnets lately, in the smallest size, because DD has been asking me to make an authentic Firebird costume for Barbie (we looked on a Russian website at the oldest costumes for that ballet... they are so beautiful!).

Your gemshow sounds great! Take a strand of Brilla with you when you go... see what looks "just right" next to it!

Circular needles 24 inch will undoubtedly be just fine... I`ve made some enormous and heavy shawls that were more stitches than I even want to know about, and they all fit just fine on a 24" circ.

Some companies make a 24", but not a 26" or a 29", some make 26", but not the other two, some make 29", but not the other two... and the same with the shorter lengths, depending on the company, you may find needles avaiable in 18", but not 16" or v.v.

102 and still knitting I just can`t stop thinking, "Give me her address... let me send her some yarn! Give that woman some Highland Wool, oh, and some of the Alpaca and some of the Baby Silk and the Cashmere..."

So I am sure glad you are going to give her some yarn... it is so sad to think of someone that age not being able to have good yarn, and worse still, to think she runs out of the crappy stuff and has to rip out her finished projects just to have yarn to knit new projects... And here we all are with more yarn than we can actually knit up...

If it works out well when you give her yarn, you know, if she is receptive to the idea and all, maybe we could all send her a bit from our stashes... I don`t know, maybe there are bunches of security risks even suggesting such a thing... I think it would be cool if a whole group of knitters like us just sent a woman like that a tad bit of luscious yarn. We could send it to you and you could bring it to her, I don`t know. She just deserves to be able to leave her finished projects as they are and still be able to keep knitting, and she certainly deserves to have some good yarn.

And find out how she is doing for needles. Does she have the sizes she needs? Is she using single points, dpns, circs, or what? Like if she`s using single points, but just has a really crappy pair, might she like a pair of Brittany Birch in a new size? I know how much wood and wool can please the soul, and I can`t stand thinking someobody who would love it is totally going without to the point of ripping out perfectly good finished things just so she can keep knitting.

email me if I can help by sending a little something:

Check Out This Button Site! WOW! Don`t even go here unless you have time to explore... it will suck you in... they must have about a million buttons... their category names are vague and subjective, so you just plain have to look, BUT they have a product search which is very fast... I typed in "shell" for a keyword and got over 200 buttons made of natural shell... the wood buttons are sooo beautiful... this is the only site where I found some unique leather buttons... the prices are great... you could actually afford to put buttons on a whole sweater... they even have some pretty cloak clasps... go see this place when you have a fresh pot of whatever you drink and a bit of free time:

Great Mobius! That`s very, very beautiful!!! Merino... sounds luscious!

So you knit the whole thing straight, then graft it with a half twist when you are done? That`s interesting. I usually work mobius things sidewards, I guess, because I cast one all the stitches, then put the halftwist in just before I join the round, then just keep knitting around, and the mobius just grows out of that (My first one was actually a naalbinding mistake!). Of course, in a cables pattern, that would`ve made cables that run the other way, which would look pretty funny!

I notice you graft the knitting as it comes off the needles, as opposed to pulling the needles out and then grafting... I do it that way, too. I never quite dared to do it the other way (my house is not that calm and free of interruptions, I guess!)

Beautiful piece of work!

Knitting and modern life WOW!!! Now you have a financial OBLIGATION to buy more yarn and needles! (Watch out now, she`ll be earning those $50 certificates twice a month and whatever yummy yarns go on sale, we`ll all have to be racing to get them before Corinna does...) lol

Question for traina@optonline.net You said you just finished a tank top for a 6 year old in the Arucania... I have a couple of questions, because I bought the same yarn for the same purpose.

First is: how many skeins did it take and at what gauge were you knitting? (Trying to find out if i bought enough yarn!)

Secondly: Could you please post a picture of your daughter wearing the tank top? My daughter wanted 3 different colors, and I only got 2... Lilac is the other one she wanted, so i know she would love to see a picture of a little girl wearing that color of the Araucania... and i would love to see how the top came out!

Question for traina@optonline.net Thanks so much! I was allowing 2 skeins to do a top for my daughter, who is 5 and wears size 5, so I know by your yarn amounts that mine should be about the same.

To submit a picture, just save it as a ,jpg file and attach it to an email to info@elann.com, then in your email, write anything you want for a caption and include your "traina@optonline.net" so we will all know who made the item in the photo... can`t wait to see it... you`ll be the first one to put up a photo of something knit with the much-discussed Araucania!

Check Out This Button Site! WOW! So which ones did you like best? The various plates of blueberries, the jar of blueberry jam, or the blueberries and leaves? I thought the blueberries and leaves were just plain way cool!

Great Mobius! Sideways mobius were given away last year, so I have no pictures, but they weren`t a cable pattern, one was just a variation of moss stitch, the other was done in naalbinding and, as I mentioned, it was actually a mistake... I was just trying for a big circle, for practice, but I inadvertently twisted the work when I first joined the round and didn`t notice it until my second round... and you can`t rip out naalbinding... and I`d once (in 8th grade math) had a strange obsessive fascination with the mobius strip shape, so I just let it keep going... then I saw a picture of a mobius scarf in a catalog, so I figured my "mistake" was now a fashion statement! lol! Trust me, it was nowhere as pretty as yours!

102 and still knitting2 I`m wondering... what weight of yarn is she knitting with now? And what size needles? She could at least use some good yarn in the size she is already using, right? QUICK! BEFORE SHE RIPS OUT WHATEVER SHE JUST FINISHED!!!

whew what a day! Well, when you say you`re going to donate it, that changes everything, becasue that`s such a good cause. But my daughter and I looked at your bio photo and had a little discussion, and we both agree your hair looks very lovely on your face the way it is and we think it would be a cryin` shame to cut it (really it looks so great!!!), BUT if you`re one of those people who can grow it back again rather quickly and you really want to do it, then this would be the season to do it...
