Uros Hey, make sure and post a picture of felted Uros! I really love the Uros, too, and I know it really, in its heart of hearts, wants to be felted, dreams and fantasizes about being felted, prays that its owner will do a project like the one you`re describing!

Neckdown shape tee shirt leaflet 233 What company`s leaflet is it, do you know?

Also, if you never do find the pattern and just want to do a neck-down shaped T-shirt or even a sleeveless one, there are good directions for it in B. Walker`s "Knitting From the Top," which I bought right here for even cheaper than it usually goes for on eBay. (Or which is probably in your local library)

What I did and how funny... Did you ever finally figure out how to resize the photos? If not, try this... just copy and paste them into the program you use for writing... MS Word or whatever you use. Once they are in there, you should be able to click on them and get little handles or arrows that you can literally drag to the size you want. And "Print Preview" will show you what it will actually look like, as far as size and layout, on a sheet of paper.

And, seriousy, if you can`t get it to work, feel free to email me your address, and I will do it and drop it in the regular mail to you... it`s painful to see people have computer problems like this... I really think the days when you got a fully functional book called "The Manual" should never have gone away. What you are trying to do is such a cool idea, too!

Ok, roll call! Who`s working on what this week? Way cute! And since it looks lke it will fit for quite awile, you ought to take a pic of the baby wearing the sweater, in the same pose, every 6 months... then put `em all together when the sweater is absolutely too smal, and have a "see baby grow" montage... if you did it on video, you could make a little movie showing baby sprouting right up out of her lovely sweater!

Ok, roll call! Who`s working on what this week? Oh, these kinds of threads really make a person take a hard look at how ridiculous it can get, huh? Currently working on:

• finishing Casual Cables for sister (would go quicker if it would knit itself just a little now and then!)

Brilla lace tank top for DD (now she wants a different design on the belly part... will probably rip and start over from the top this time)

• tvaandsstickning water bottle bag for DD (starting with a flat circle... seems strange right now, might not be the best construction method for this technique)

• fisherman sweater for my Mom for Mother`s Day (maybe for next Christmas instead?)(body and sleeves all started and onto two circs all together... may rip and start over from the top)

• Yet another ballet sweater for DD (all done except yoke and edges)

• Pink shawl for DD (half done.. might move that to the "on hold" bin until winter)

• green Fortissimo cotton/wool socks for Mom (only the toes are done)

• Yellow Fortissimo cotton socks for DD (only the toes are done)

and darned if I didn`t start a bag out of Uros last night after reading about the one Jean is doing...

But today, no knitting... have a tone of sewing to catch up on, two skirts that are due tomorrow and a pile of American Girl dresses that have been cut out, but not stitched up, for nieces` birthdays coming soon.

But when the pink Esprit gets here, I`m dropping everything to re-make DD`s pink turtleneck... or will that have to wait for the summer top out of the Arucania?

DD asked what the topic was, and then trotted out here with a half-done Barbie sweater out of pearl cotton... it`s done up to the armpits, but I wanted to try a little garment construction experiment on that, that`s why I haven`t finished it...

I guess I should sign off and get to work!

Oh Les-what a dollbaby!!!! Way Cute!!!

And since it apparently has plenty of room for growth, it would be cool if you took a picture of baby wearing the sweater and in the same pose, once about every 6 months until the sweater is waaayyy too small... then put them together for a "see baby grow" montage. Or do it on video and make a little movie showing baby sprouting right up out of her sweater!

Shui Kuen - your bio You live in absolute paradise!!! I was saying that BEFORE I even read the bio... that picture of you in a log cabin, surrounded by wood and wool... you`ve achieved my dream... living in a log cabin in the middle of nature, nowhere near a city. Wow!!! Very, very cool!

I am a woman of great restraint You ALL need some serious yarn therapy. Let me repeat that:

YOU ALL NEED SERIOUS YARN THERAPY!!!

NOW!!!

Go buy some yarn for YOU... not for a project for anyone else, some yarn for YOU to wear on your body this summer. Bump all other projects aside and make a thing for YOU. I really mean it. It is the quickest end to a bad cycle, and thereby the cheapest way back to a good place.

Airplane Knitting/Trip Update Maybe since they keep finding bombs and guns, they are starting to realize that knitting needles are not their biggest security problem... and maybe even that ladies with knitting needles who also have yarn may be intending to actually just... I dunno... knit?

Corinna, wonderful sweaters Yea, I would be pretty incredible if I had done those beauties, but Corinna is Farmin` Garmon, and I am not her. She`s the one who keeps knitting like the Energizer Bunny... I`m the one who rips out knitting like the Energizer Bunny!

Corinna, can you post a picture os somebody wearing the Fisherman sweater? That sweater is so lovely! Is "DS" your son or your sister? Gosh, if that`s a sweater for a kid, my little Anne is going to be tres envious... what an heirloom that is!!!

Uros Have you ever tried using a Lucet? I find it goes much faster that way, and there`s no end to the little variations you can play with.

Phiala`s String page has a good little how-to on this and other ancient techniques.

Enquiring minds want to know,,, I have dial-up, not DSL, so I set my software to NO homepage, just blank, that way nothing starts loading unless I tell it to... but my menu bar has an icon for Elann... right after the library and Barbie.com!

Oh, that Esprit! Marion, did you get yours yet? I just got my Esprit and matching Sonata shipment... OH MY GODDESS!!!!!

They are so perfect together... I knit a swatch of the Esprit, and all my reservations are gone... I love it... it knits up just as easily and quickly as its color-matched sister, Sonata does!

And so, next, I switched from one to the other in the swatch, and the only difference between them is that the Esprit is a little more velvety, both in looks and feel... and, of course, the Esprit is more elastic!

This really IS going to solve the age-old "cotton problem"... cotton ribbings and cuffs and necks and hat bands for summer hats and every place where you want the cotton to stretch back the way wool would, not stretch forever farther out... oh this is so cool!

My Mom wants me to get her some to match the colors of her L.L. Bean cotton sweaters whose sleeve cuffs have all stretched out beyond being bearable... if not matching, then coordinating... she`s going to redo (or have me redo?) the cuffs and hems in Esprit. Oh, oh, oh, I want to drop that Casual Cables and dive into the Esprit RIGHT NOW.... oh, oh, oh...

Making the Esprit in colors to match the Sonata was BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!

Pattern for Sock it to me collection - ESPRIT Go to the Free Patterns section here or use any pattern you want and if you want it snug and body-hugging, make the sweater the same measurement as your actual body measurement, or even an inch smaller. That`s really all there is to it!

How I Lost My Knitting Time... There we were, daughter and I, waiting for the arrival of another Johnny Gruelle book, but nothing to read in the meantime...

"Is ther ANYTHING in this house that we haven`t already read?" I asked.

"Well," she murmured, running her index finger aross the collection of Harry Potter books, "there are these..."

"Daddy and I have been buying those for you since you were born, but I really don`t think you`re old enough for them yet... the author says she intended them for 9 year olds..."

"But Mom, really, you said that about the Chronicles of Narnia, and we LOVED reading those... at least I did, didn`t YOU love it, too?????"

"Well, but... well, O.K., let`s just try a few paragraphs and see how it goes..."

So we took turns reading paragraphs, then I got sucked in and took over and just read it to her, and that was at last night, and now we are all done with book one and she is playing out the scenes with Barbies and I am getting caught up on some computer work and breaking it up with peeks in at Elann every now and then, and we are both trying to act all normal...

...but we are both saying, "Wonder what`s happening in Book Two?" about every ten minutes, and I can already see what`s about to happen to every waking minute of our lives, and how it will all be grabbed up by Harry Potter within about the next few hours.

Time to put on a kettle and boil some water for tea, I guess... there`s no escaping the pull of those next four books...

Oh, I wish I could knit and read at the same time like so many of you guys can! Dang!

Corinna, wonderful sweaters Gosh, that sweater is even more gorgeous on a real person!! And you picked the perfect style for a growing kid, because fisherman sweaters look great when they are a bit too big AND even when they are a bit too small... so it should "fit" for quite awile! Love the greenery in the background, too, but gosh that sweater is beautiful!!!!

Pattern for Sock it to me collection - ESPRIT Yea, that`s all... just multiply this:

(number of inches around that you want the whole sweater to be) x (stitches per inch you are getting with your chosen yarn & needles) = Total number of stitches

That number is the total amount of stitches around the body of the sweater. You could also refer to it as 100%. If you are knitting in the round, from the bottom up, you would cast on 100% and just dive right in. If your pattern has you making a front and a back separately, you will probably be casting on 50% for the back and 50% for the front. (Or maybe 45/55... check your pattern to see.)

Look at your pattern:

What gauge are they using?
What size sweater are they giving directions for?

These are really the only questions you need to answer to be able to translate your pattern... their stitches per inch multiplied by their sweater size will equal 100% (or body total). You can translate everything else in terms of percentages now, and recalculate it for your size and gauge... and in a sleeveless top, "everything" isn`t going to be much... maybe neckhole and armholes, though armholes might already be given in inches or centimeters (not rows or stitches) in your pattern.

I use percentages to convert everything to knitting in the round, because, fo me, that is faster and I feel it`s more organic to the knitting process. But lots of people like to keep patterns worked in flat pieces and then sewn together afterwards, and for some knitting styles, that is the faster method. There`s much to be said for working with flat pieces as often as possible.

Decide what construction method(s) you like best, then convert everything to your way!

For some detailed directions on resizing for both pattern size differences and yarn/gauge differences, go to Elann`s "Info/Help" section and look under Yarn FAQ (It`s actually more like a general tutorial section than just a yarn FAQ).

http://secure.elann.com/faq.asp

You`ll also find some guidance there on calculating how much yarn you will need.

Once you start converting things to your own way, it gives you lots more ieas to pick from!!! You`ll need to buy more yarn!!!
