Curtain Stretcher? Does anyone else remember these? I can vividly remember using them in the spring each year for the lace curtains my mother had. It was my job, from the age of 8 to the laundry as my mother had so many allergies she couldn`t get close to laundry soap. We had a wringer (wish I still had one), and she was afraid that I would get my long hair caught in the wringer so I would have to go to the laundry mat. My mom would sort all of the clothes and put each load into a pillowcase. I would then bring them home wet and we would hang them on the line. But there was something really special about doing the curtains each spring. I`d mix up the starch and stretch those lace curtains in the sun.
Wouldn`t they be neat for blocking stoles?

I need a Book of Protocol, folks! Well, there is a welcome to the chat center that pretty much sums it up for me and I don`t think that we need any other guide lines other than common sense.

SK-Yarn Info please. Maybe you`ve already posted and I missed it, but what yarn did you use for your shoalwater shawl and how much did you use? I have some beautiful Fleece Artist Sea Silk that I am thinking about using, what do you think?

The Way That I Knit Has a ....... NAME! I am not the only one to knit this way!! Well I use to knit that way, until I made the B&B and some of my cables looked so awful I changed the way that I K & P to conform to the conventional way, but I just may go back to the old way because I knit so much faster. And the name is "Combination Knitting. Here are a few link to sites that explains the stitches.

Knit Picks Needles Knit Picks has come out with a line of interchangeable circular needles. I ordered a set and I received them today. I can`t say enough good about them, the points are pointy enough for lace, the joins are perfect and they come with a neat little zipper file folder and clear plastic pouches to keep them in.
Everyone knows that I am not a fan of the Denise set, I think it was the feel of the plastic needle that left me cold. The Knit Picks are just like addis but for the really fine point. LOVE EM!

The Way That I Knit Has a ....... I don`t remember anymore Benne what it was but it looked all goofy either next to a cable or the cable itself. That`s when I said sorry Mom I gotta change the way I do this. I have been knitting "normal" since but I have no speed when I purl and my tension seems to be a bit wonky too.

The Way That I Knit Has a ....... No Betsy I think that you did the right thing. After knitting for awhile she might be able to figure out when she can use either method. It is always good to know more than one way to do something. The only thing that my mother told me was that she was teaching me the "wrong" way, but it worked for her and if I was to knit as she did then I had to do it all the time not switch back and forth between the two methods cause the stitches would not lay correctly.
I found a really cool story from Cat Bordhi(sp) that I will try to find and send to you. It is about teaching knitting in a classroom setting.

New KAL There is a new yahoo group that has been started by a knitter in Denmark. It looks quite interesting. Anyone interested? Here is the link followed by an explanation ttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/KnitalongSamplerM/

Where it all started.
On June 17th, 2006 my husband Jan bought me on an antiques market in Delft a wonderful old cotton knitting sampler and stocking.
The knittings are probably made by a schoolgirl during crafts lessons in the beginning of the twentieth century. The cotton proofed to be very strong. Everything is not damaged and clean. The very fine unbleached cotton looks like the unbleached knitting cotton of Durable that is still for sale in yarn shops and through the internet the thin knitting needles (1 or 1,25 mm) can be ordered.
In both the sampler and the stocking there are knitted initial or initial, but which? When I hold the sampler upside down (it starts with a picot border for a stocking) it was clear to me that in both knittings it is the letter M was knitted. So the name of the KnitAlong became: ‘Sampler M’.
Intrigued by the beautiful knitting I tried to replicate the 29 stitch patterns of the sampler, a big job indeed! Believe me……, you don’t want to know how many times I had to rip the knitting and had to start over be course it was not quite the same! Sometimes I came across stitches of which was clear that they were not right, or at least, less beautiful knitted. But to preserve the authenticity of the sampler I replicated also the little mistakes.
This way I try to contribute to conserving the art of knitting from the beginning of the last century. There has been lost a lot of knowledge and skills during the last decennia. By sharing my sampler over the internet with other knitters, I help conserve some of the essentials of the craft.

The writing of the stitch patterns also takes a lot of time. There will sure be mistakes of unclearities in my knitting and in the patterns, let me know, so I can improve the patterns in version II. I can surely use your help! All remarks are welcome, post them in the group or mail me directly (carla@meijsen.net).
But also information on the history of this kind of samplers or the same kind of samplers is welcome.

I tried to make my sampler as must the same as the original as possible, used the same material Durable number 12, but also want to encourage you to make a more contemporary one. Use thick yarn, or make a bridge between the past and the present by using a modern color!

I hope you will place a photo of your sampler in the files-section after completion, so we can see the difference between our knittings and admire each other’s work.

Success and happy knitting!

New KAL Bets, I am not sure, either, but I think that it will be like a sampler of different stitches.

BEAUTIFUL mystery shawl, Patricia!! Amy the shawl was made with zephyr laceweight in the colorway of fuschia on #5`s U.S. I had a very very hard time beginning this shawl as it is started with dpn`s and I just could not work with them. I tried and tried but would end up throwing them across the room or crying or both! lol, I finally managed to do IT and it was a pretty powerful moment for me. Funny how accomplishments in your hobby reflect into your daily life. I hope to make another of these as I love the way that it turned out and in the end was not that difficult if you just took each clue as it came and didn`t look toward the end until the end came.
The mystery shawl has a #4 now and it is a Pi shawl, round rather than square or triangle.

BEAUTIFUL mystery shawl, Patricia!! Jayne you will be very happy with their yarn. I made a couple of shawls with it. Don`t remember the exact color name but it was sort of a rust. It`s nice stuff.
