WB - rethinking "Not Your Mother`s Coat"
|
Benne I think that a nice mohair or boucle would be nice. I am using a cherry tree hill bulky verigated and it looks okay. I think mohair would be great. I am making an einstein and I really think that it needs something more mixed into all of that garter stitch. I am only about 70 ribs into the back so I`ve put it on hold while I look for something to add to it.

DH is off on another adventure.....
|
Thank you Bets and Benne for your kind words. We will do just fine. It does get rough for a few days and then it gets better. The last time he went he was gone for 2 years, but we would meet somewhere every 3 months for a month of vacation. I don`t know if we will do that this time as I am becoming fearful of traveling outside the U.S. We shall see. Internet connections are pretty good over there and we will chat everyday as we did before. Power is the biggest issue though and not all internet cafe`s have generators. The last few days have not been good in Kosovo and I am a bit scared about his safety. He feels that he can make a difference there,as he is such a kind and caring individual. We have a great relationship and "we will survive". Thanks again for your well wishes.

What a pretty sweater Patricia!

Thanks guys! The colors are much prettier in person. I was not really impressed with this yarn until I washed it and it turned out to be so soft.

Being brave about this...USM/ISM and machine knitters?
|
Oh Theresa I can`t help but laugh! We have been "talking" about redoing our kitchen for over 5 years. One cabinet is sanded, one is painted the rest are nasty and all are 30 years old. The drop ceiling is removed but not the florescent light fixtures or the metal strips that use to hold the drop ceiling. We can not agree on what to do so the rooms stays as is. And the rest of the house "ain`t so hot either". I refuse to be the slave to my home that I once was. My advise to anyone (DH) is "if it bothers you, then take care of, when it bothers me I will take care of it, until then it is fine"

Frugal Knitting Haus Free Pattern(s)
RUANA SCRAP BAG SHAWL (Gatherup all your scrap yarns!)
Finished size: about 60 inches long by about 24 inches wide
Materials: Gather up your scrap yarns, put in a light weight plastic bag, and weigh on the bathroom scale. You should have about 17 - 18 ounces. 1 pr. U.S. # 13 needles. ( allow a good 4 ½ yards of yarn for every 2 rows.)
Gauge: 3 sts and 5 rows = 1 inch
Directions: Note: Always join yarn at the same end. This will be the fringe when finished. With any color, cast on 72 sts., leaving a tail of about 5 inches at end. Knit across for 2 rows. Cut yarn leaving a 5 inch length. Join another color, leaving a 5 inch length, and knit 2 rows. Cut yarn, leaving a 5 inch length. Continue to add colors every 2 rows, leaving the 5 inch lengths at one end until length from beg is about 60 inches. Bind off.
Before trimming fringe ends, tie on different colors of fringe at each narrow end. ( the cast on row, and bound off row). Now, trim all fringe ends to match evenly.
*This is beginner easy! A good way to use up your scrap yarns, and have a nice gift when completed !

Anyone need a laugh today?

Things I`ve learned from my Children 1. A king size waterbed holds enough water to fill a 2000 sq. ft. house 4 inches deep. 2. If you spray hair spray on dust bunnies and run over them with roller blades, they can ignite. 3. A 3 year old`s voice is louder than 200 adults in a crowded restaurant. 4. If you hook a dog leash over a ceiling fan, the motor is not strong enough to rotate a 42-pound boy wearing Batman underwear and a Superman cape. It is strong enough, however, if tied to a paint can, to spread paint on all four walls of a 20x20 ft. room. 5. You should not throw baseballs up when the ceiling fan is on. When using a ceiling fan as a bat, you have to throw the ball up a few times before you get a hit. A ceiling fan can hit a baseball a Long way. 6. The glass in windows (even double-pane) doesn`t stop a baseball hit by a ceiling fan. 7. When you hear the toilet flush and the words "uh oh," it`s already too late. 8. Brake fluid mixed with Clorox makes smoke, and lots of it. 9. A six-year old can start a fire with a flint rock even though a 36-year-old man says they can only do it in the movies. 10. Certain Lego`s will pass through the digestive tract of a 4-year old. 11. Playdough and microwave should not be used in the same sentence. 12. Super glue is forever. 13. No matter how much Jell-O you put in a swimming pool you still can`t walk on water. 14. Pool filters do not like Jell-O. 15. VCRs do not eject PB&J sandwiches even though TV commercials show they do. 16. Garbage bags do not make good parachutes. 17. Marbles in gas tanks make lots of noise when driving. 18. You probably do not want to know what that odor is. 19. Always look in the oven before you turn it on--plastic toys do not like ovens. 20. The fire department in Austin, TX, has a 5-minute response time. 21. The spin cycle on the washing machine does not make earthworms dizzy. It will, however, make cats dizzy. Cats throw up twice their body weight when dizzy. 22. The mind of a 6-year old is wonderful.

Mohair on Ebay
|
Yesterday I found just the color of mohair that I`ve been looking for. The seller was offering 5 skeins but I needed 7 so I sent her an email asking if she had additional skeins to sell. I didn`t hear back and the auction was ending soon so I placed a bid on the 5 she had listed and won!! I started surfing looking for this yarn at other places on-line. I did manage to find it but it was just too expensive for me so I sent my payment off to the ebay seller and signed off of the computer for the evening. Well, this morning I received an email from the seller saying that she would be shipping my purchase today and had included 2 more skeins at no additional charge!!! Isn`t that wonderful? Oh, almost forgot DH leaves tomorrow for Kosovo.

Patricia-How are you doing?

Thanks Bets I am doing okay, keeping busy is the answer. It`s easier for me than him I think. I am still surrounded by familar things while he has to adjust to everything being new and foreign. A year will go very fast. Thanks again for asking.

Big HUGE FROOOOG

Oh Jean I can truely understand how you felt! On March 25th. I started a cable sweater working from a chart for the first time. I thought that it would keep my mind occupied and I would not dwell on DH leaving. I have just restarted it for the 5 time, and hopefully the last. I have about 40 rows done on the back and decided to start the front. It went very well and I was able to finish about 20 rows without a hitch!! Feeling so good about it. DGD`s came to visit yesterday and one of them pulled the needle out and I just did not feel up to trying to figure out which way the cables were suppose to go so I frogged it. Worked on it a bit today and have the 20 rows back on and saw a mistake that I don`t think I can live with. Maybe I should just give up. Sure miss hearing DH say "wouldn`t you wear the yarn out?" LOL
