Araucania Question
|
Eileen - I`m making a toddler sweater out of the raspberry. Nice to knit with isn`t it! I think it will hold up well as I have a sweater from S. America in similar yarn and it has been great. For our climate, it would be a great summer sweater. Is it humid where you are? It sure isn`t here. If so, maybe something lighter might work better but the Araucania would absorb the sweat wouldn`t it!! He wouldn`t have the sweat running down his back it would just be sopped up!! Les

Heather, your beanie is very cute

heather - I found the patterns on the net and made preemie, newborn and adult sizes. I had patterns for the preemie and newborn but I just increased the # of stitches on each needle, evenly and played with it. didn`t have a particular sized head in mind, i was just using leftover yarn. of course i didn`t write what I did down!!!! that would make subsequent hats just too darned easy!! Thanks gang. I think I`ll take a little jaunt to Shuttleworks (1/2 an hour away) and if it needs spinning I know that there is a guild in the area and will find someone to do that for me. It was so soft and touchable! As for mail-order, I like to stick with Canadian places as we get soaked with tax and duty whenever we order from the states. We have had to pay over 40.00 for gifts sent by my sister in Everett WA. when she forgot to put "5 gifts" on the declaration!! (she always sends the best things so of course we`d accept it!!!) Les

You do realize you`ll have to get yourself a border collie so that Jean and I can watch it work your herd and keep you all in line! Preferably a puppy for DH to train- perhaps the grandchildren could help him this summer. A few people out here have donkeys for coyote control and say that they work - but don`t try to ride them. A woman out here broke her pelvis last year doing that but the silver lining was that she then had the time to publish a book of short stories about her adventures in "burro alley"!! You might have to come up here to do research on the donkeys and pick her brain!!!

No fries thanks! Just thinking of what type of sauce would go best with it. A Thai or perhaps Vietnamese dipping sauce. What do you think? Les

Some sleuths you turned out to be!! It was a well hidden link in the Ask Maggie section. I had a moment of panic when I couldn`t find it as for some reason I hadn`t bookmarked it!! Here is the link http://knitting.about.com/library/weekly/aa010603.htm
RE: the mixmaster - mines out (given to me by my DMIL last year) but we (the mixer and I)have a love hate relationship - I always over beat things in it and it taunts me whenever it can!! Maybe I should try the winding procedure and get it impossibly tangled in WB yarn trying to separate it into 3 strands from 6. Les

Oh, and while you`re here you could meet Sado the B-Collie up the hill. He lives with 4 soccer playing boys and is an incredible ball handler (can`t kick worth a darn tho)!! My kids and I were "garden, dog,cat and greenhouse sitting" last summer and we had such fun with him. he can leap about 5 foot into the air and bring down the ball with complete control. If the ball goes into the flowerbed he will NOT retrieve it but stares at it until you come and get it!! He has been well trained! He plays with his own ball which has a few ragged edges of leather for him to get a grip on! Les

Gjestal Naturgarn No. 1/felting
|
You should have no problem. the slippers I knit, pictured in the basket, have a pair that I felted slightly. The pair with the yellow cuff started out the same size as the ones with the green cuff. They`d have felted even more had I left them in the washer longer - but then I`d have to have them bronzed as the ankle would be too small. Lesley

SandraD - Heal my Hands
|
did you see the "heal my hands" stuff under "cool stuff" in the latest Knitty.com issue? It looks interesting. Bossy Les says, "why don`t you order some and try it and let me know what you think" as she would have to pay canadian tax plus a handling fee to order it for delivery to Canada!! Lesley

Les Slipper Question
|
Cindy It is an old White Buffalo pattern which I have adjusted - made a little higher (so you get a little roll at the top) and a little wider than the pattern calls for. The ladies ones were too shallow for anyone wearing sox and so were the kids sizes. It is extremely similar to the White Buffalo slipper and hat patterns on the Elann site. I don`t have little kids. My kids have Hobbit sized feet- the kidsized ones in the basket are for gifts and no one has been impolite enough to tell me that they don`t stay on!! I think that they would as I mentioned that I knit them higher than the pattern calls for. Les

My thoughts exactly, Sandra. I`m stumped!! BTW, Sandra, beautiful Mobius. I like that faux cable - do you still have to concentrate hard to keep on track? I was looking at the picture carefully and noticed the end of your R. circular needle tip. Looks like you have sharpened it into a blade!! Yikes, I thought, what`s Sandra up to? No wonder they sometimes confiscate knitting needles at airports!! ;-} Les
