WOW Eileen!! There is a very pretty, leaf green, womans sweater, by EL in the winter 2004 Knitters mag - if anyone wants to try rather than buy one of her pattern books. Gee, if Eileen has problems deciphering her patterns.............

Cate and Jamie - Mittens I have been trying and frogging mittens for myself for the last while. I guess I`m being rather picky!! But, the reason I am frogging them is that I don`t like the thumbs!! I find that at the base of the thumb, the knit portion ends up too tight and then the cold thumb thing happens. I "think" my hands look fairly normal - I don`t think I have "manhands" (Seinfeld) - they are a ladies large for the length. LOL Do you have any suggestions. I can`t quite figure out how to enlarge that area. Tho, as I am writing this, I guess If I just knit the gusset an extra row or two before putting them on a holder that would expand the area wouldn`t it? Any ideas? I`ve knit mittens for my DD`s (they - the mitts -seem to be MIA right now) and they haven`t complained. wonder which pattern I used! ;-}
Any suggestions?

Cate and Jamie - Mittens Oh, thanks alot guys. I am determined to try your suggestions and get one comfy pair of mittens!!

I agree, Jamie, too short a mitten is awful as is too wide a mitten - you just can`t do anything!!

So, who`s getting boots? Oh, I love those boots! Trouble is, where I live, rain means mud! Those boots would be great on the "wet coast" though!

Shui Kuen`s hat Your hat is great SK! Good job! I`ve had an ear flap hat on my list to make but haven`t got to it yet. Thanks for sharing the pattern.
I`m sure you could knit some detachable "horns" to attach on those days you feel devilish!! LOL!

Jamie - I did it . Bri - what yarn do you use? Jamie - Worked on the mitts last night in the gjestaal. I knit and frogged and got the right size using 23 sts and 11 for the thumb. I threw them in with a load of laundry intending to remove them part way through. I, uh, forgot! They are a medium felt - just a little too short for me but they will fit my DD! The thumb is just great. I did the thumb with 4 needles as I was worried about a seam making it too tight. I love how fuzzy they are. Will try and get a pic.

Bri, what weight of yarn do you use for your mittens? I`d like to give them a go too.
Thanks so much for your help.

Finished Best of Lopi sweater in Gjestal Naturgarn Jean, I love the new sweater. You`re doing a great job reducing those boxes of yarn!
I too would like to "dull" down my red yarn. I don`t have a stash of dyes around but could/would go get some but it might be a while. You mentioned tea dying - how much tea would I start with? I have knit and felted a purse where red is the dominant colour, hoping that the felting would mute the colour. didn`t happen and it is still to scary to use. We laugh about it! Anyway, if I need dye, what colour would you use.
Any help you can give me will be appreciated.

Great Vest Carol! Nice job Carol
That`s not a vest it`s a sweater! Carol tricked us!! LOL
I like the cuffs on the sleeves, Carol. Looks like a very comfy shirt jacket..
Did you like using the winter cotton? I`ve never tried it.

Jamie - I did it . Bri - what yarn do you use? Jamie - you bet I`ll make a pair for me!! Now I know that they work, I will add some colour. I will make them a tad longer and throw them in with another load of laundry!!
Bet your friend was "tickled" with her "eyelash" scarf!

Bri - thanks for the yarn info. Will get those going too!!

Wow Les: Thanks folks.
You had me chuckling about the colour comments. The colours in my pic are not true. In reality they are much more muted. The mitts are Magenta but look fuschia in the pic don`t they.
Both pieces were knit flat - the hat is garter st. from "The Knit Stitch" and I cast on fewer sts than the one in the book for the larger gauge of yarn - and started with a few rows of st st to make a rolled edge before beginning the garter st. The hat is 2 rows black alternated with two rows Kuyeyon. I have 2 sweaters, a vest and an Einstein to finish but keep doing these little projects!!

DD#2 has laid claim to the mittens - she`s hard to please!! I`ll probably wear the hat or gift it. And I`ll make another pair of mitts for me!

Sandra - the Kureyon was knit as it came off the ball - self striping. I had frogged it from another hat I had knit but found that I liked it better mixed with the black. That HW bag yarn is so nice and soft it makes the scratchy Kuyeyon nice to wear! I bought 3 bags of that yarn and am sort of coveting it!!

Sandra--Great scarf and hat set! Well, that`s pretty close to "men in poncho`s", Sandra That looks like nice yarn and sure makes a great hat and diagonal scarf set. Good job - very cosy!

Danger lurks at the doctor`s office! Warning to T!!!! Oh, Bets, you poor thing! Those kind of things usually happen to me! Bare butt on that cold waxed floor! (let alone the wacked elbows and back) I`m sure you didn`t need a lesson in humility with a repeat!!

Years ago when I was in my 20`s and single, I went for my exam and the Dr. brought in a resident - low and behold, the resident was someone who I had met at a party the wkd before! yuck! We both pretended not to know each other!

Bets, that is too cute! That`s going to be a favorite not only for the Puhpul Princess but for her mom to put on her. Great details, Bets! It really is cute.

crisis # 2005 Oh, Pat, what a drag! It`s not as if you weren`t making a good attempt to work + take the appropriate courses!
I wish you strength, boundless energy and a darned good union rep!
We won`t forget you - just drop a couple of lines now and then to let us know how it`s going.

Dale Hardangervidda Jean - that is one gorgeous sweater. And a perfect fit for your DH. Now we`ll all be able to brag that we KNOW someone who actually MADE a Dale of Norway sweater!! It amazes me!! I go to a sample sale each year selling those sweaters and have bought one. I love them. You`re really on a roll girl!! You can probably take the rest of the year off!

Boy am I jazzed! What about you guys? Cool, T. That`s great that both you and Tim are very excited about the same thing!! (and a bargain to boot!) I love those gansey style sweaters - someday I will knit one. There are a couple in that Green mountain Spinnery book that I have - not sure if they are the traditional gansey but are similar.
Keep those needles clicking!
