Plus Size Addis Cheryl and Alice - I`ve been to Mad about Ewe! We recently spent two, 1-week holidays on Gabriola and one day stumbled on the shop when looking for a breakfast spot before the ferry. I of course wanted to stay at the store longer than the family. The guys hung out outside ;-} and I got my girls into looking around. What a great place - you just want to stay...... That day they had a couple of women demo-ing Emu oil and creams for your skin. I remember them saying that it was great for eczema - even had some before and after pics. I didn`t have eczema yet so didn`t buy any. 3 weeks ago I stumbled upon some and did buy. It`s neat stuff. Hasn`t cured me but I think it is helping!!

It sure is a great little shopping area.....the clothing shops were calling me but so was the ferry, so I left somewhat unsatisfied!!

Plus Size Addis Cindy - the knitting teacher`s name wasn`t Margie was it?
Gabriola is one of my very favorite places. It is such a great place to kick back and relax. We`re heading to Kaslo this summer but I can see going back to Gabriola maybe next year and would love to have a partner in crime to check out the store and that nice fancy restaurant nearby!

Musing and questions.... That idea of CD`s looks like fun doesn`t it.
What is carry-along yarn? I guess I don`t get out enough to see what`s in the stores. The LYS nearest me has lots of yarn but isn`t very inspiring even tho they have a number of samples hanging up and nice yarns - too sterile a place, I guess. There is a great one in the city but apparently it has just moved. Don`t know where yet.

I have been knitting Lopi slipper socks from a White Buffalo Pattern I picked up years ago and have tweaked a bit. I have this image in my mind of a willow melon basket full of these slippers for guests to put on. We seem to keep our place a little cooler than most. In Canada, we always take our shoes off when we go into someones house. DH`s husband et al lives in LA and my sister et al near Seattle and they tell me that that is one of the "differences". Anyway, I have been knitting and knitting these slippers and I haven`t got pair for the basket yet! Traded the one pair for a pair of shoes, made a pair for a cousin`s b-day, a pair for my son, a pair for my DH and one of our staff had a b-day this week and she got a pair that didn`t have anyones name on. I had bought a bunch of Lopi a few years ago and started it once, thought it was going to be too big, ripped it out and then decided I didn`t like the style of the sweater after all so have been using that yarn and some of the Gjestal Naturgarn. They use two strands of the Lopi or WB right off the patty/puck. They are fun to do as I do each one different. Tweed for DH, stripes of different sorts for the others. Someday I will have a will basket full of slippers........ya, right!!

I have the Fiber Trends pattern for the little felted purses calling me as well as my Uros sweater. The purses have a bit too much glitzy yarn on them but I don`t have to follow the pattern, do I.

DD#2 wants me to knit her a "Raglan Body Hugger" from Melville`s "The Purl Stitch" p. 92 Brilla perhaps?

Benne where in Tennessee? Hi Benne - Just found out that one of our customers is from Tennessee - I think she said Knoxville. She and her first husb. "dodged" up here in the late 60`s. She`s a hoot!

Had a harrowing drive home last night from my sons basketball tourney in High River -35 miles away. It was windy when I left,(the kind of wind that rips the car door out of your hand) so I took a lesser traveled secondary Hwy. as there are fewer oncoming headlights to blind me. Started to rain so I slowed to 50mph. 2 trucks and a car passed me. A minute later it started to snow, ferociously!! It was like driving the "Enterprize" through the Milky Way! Then my left foot started to cramp - the kind of toe-curling-cramp which just gets worse......luckily I had zip off boots so managed to get my foot out - instant relief. DS was in the back seat -seat reclined, arms behind his neck - watching a DVD of Bob Marley so wasn`t really aware of my distress. There are no shoulders on this road and it would have been stupid to stop anyway. So I continued on, at 35mph. Got to a town and found a parking lot to sit, uncurl my fingers and wait it out. Ended up going to the home of one of the other players to continue to wait and relax before driving the 6 windy miles home!
It didn`t help that I had left my "driving" glasses at home and had to wear my prescription sun glasses at night. (yes, there are drivers out there wearing sunglasses at night).
Stomach is feeling much better this morning!! ;-}

White Buffalo Unspun Yarn check out the link to article from Knitters. It can be found on the White Buffalo Unspun page on this site. They say to start by twisting a couple of meters/yards not just a couple of twists.

Benne where in Tennessee? Can`t do it! Gotta go back to High River to watch some more basketball. Going to look for my glasses before I leave tho..... Weather looks good - right now!! Never know what`s going to happen around here in the spring. Can`t KIP at these games as I sit beside 2 moms who are also coaches of other teams. Have to watch the game and pretend I know what`s going on on the floor. The rules and such haven`t sunk in yet tho I`ve been going to my kids games for years! both girls play/played too. Gotta concentrate on sounding smart!! One DD is presently in Three Hills (2.5 hrs away) at a tourney. Don`t you just love these names...........Three Hills, High River.....then there`s Medicine Hat. I often have to travel to Vulcan and yes, they sell Spock Ears there!

Will have to try the knitting therapy when I get home tonite. Used the brandy therapy last night. Slept like a baby!! ;-}

scarlet fever A couple of my kids had it when they were younger. The name insites fear into the masses, but really, it`s just Strep with a rash. Years ago, before antibiotics, Scarlet Fever was something which required a QUARANTINE notice tacked to a homes front door (happened to my mom when she was little) and the patient was usually hospitalized. Yes, it was serious because of the possibility of the complication Rheumatic Fever. You don`t want to mess around with it. See a Dr. and get the patient on antibiotics and finish them all!! Just Last week, I thought DD Claire had it - fever, rash on front and back torso, sore throat, lethargy..... took her to the doc who took a throat swab but suspected that it was a viral thing. I assume it was, as we didn`t hear back that the swab was positive. But have you ever had the feeling that they might have lost that result......................? ;-} She`s better now and played basketball all weekend!

Marion, congrats on that romper! Great job on the romper - it is too cute!
Great job on the novel! Perhaps a little `just` revenge in the plot?! Who might the protagonist be based on? Well done!

Flying with Needles A couple of years ago I flew to Winnipeg from Calgary. Before I left,my DD had cleared off the counter in the bathroom putting all stray objects in my makeup bag. While going thru the x-ray machine they noticed metal objects in my purse. They removed scissors and tweezers and a pencil sharpener. Scissors, I can see, but gee, how dangerous can a pair of tweezers be or the teensy blade from the pencil sharpener? Grrrrrrrrr! I hate how intimidated I feel when I go thru security!

Wahoo! Going "away" with the girls this w/e! Our bookclub (5 of us) was planning a w/e get away and thought we`d go to Banff for a couple of nights. Banff is a pricey place tho beautiful and lots of fun. Bev suggested we go to her parents house in the city as they are in Palm Springs! The house was a show home (just a couple of years old) and her mom, an interior designer. The house backs onto the river with walking trails and bike paths. Has a pool table, wine cellar, exercise room, state of the art kitchen.......... The "w/e" starts Thurs afternoon and we`ll head back to the country on Sat. afternoon or evening! Tho 4 of us like to cook, we will probably order in to allow for more wine and conversation time!! At least that`s my vote. It is the end of the season for many of the sports our kids play and we drivers/fans need a break!! (remember the snowstorm I drove thru? - not to mention the dense fog I plowed through the weekend before!) One of the girls has never been away from her sons and hubby before. We must show her how it is done! Will I knit? Maybe! Maybe not!

hey macChick Look at the pic of the Katia Beetle Pullover in the Elann free patterns section. the neck of that sweater has the same issue as MacChicklets sleeveless sweater. Notice that it curves in too!! I guess it is a fashion element after all!!

Eileen - Happy St. Patricks Day!! Will have to get dressed up in my green today!! You won`t have to look far will you, for your green. When I was a kid, we would pinch someone who wasn`t wearing green on Mar. 17. Does that happen in Ireland or just in Alberta? I often didn`t have anything green to wear except the leaves on my flowered undies!! Will you go out tonight?

Wahoo! Going "away" with the girls this w/e! Thanks for all your good wishes for the "get away" I`ll have a glass of wine for each of you and give a toast to this great group!! i know I can do it!! Bev and I have practised the odd Friday afternoon ;-}!!
But,
"I must not get into that wine cellar"
"I must not get into that wine cellar"
"I must not get into that wine cellar"
The homeowners have a friend who owns a "fine wine" store and writes a weekly column for the Calgary Herald. They purchase cases of wine from this guy!!

Eileen - Happy St. Patricks Day!! well my St. P`s Day celebrating consisted of listening to Van Morrison while driving for 1 1/2 hrs to visit my pregnant clients! Of course, I sing along too, and very well I might add ;-}! Been a fan of his for many years. Don`t let that snow get you down! Had a slight dusting of it this am too but it`s gone now.

gotta find the proportions for "Cosmopolitans" for the w/e getaway for the pre dinner cocktail. Get it? 5 country girls go to the city for a getaway = Cosmopolitan!!

white lies Just received the Schoeller + Stahl Summer 2003 pattern book from this site and am making the "undershirt" shown with the S + S Cecil yarn.

If you have trouble finishing the White Lies set, there is the best little jacket (number 9 in the book) for you to knit for the cocktail hour at your anniversary celebration. Model is wearing it, as you should, au naturel.It has a broad v-neck and just two tiny buttons on loops as closures, just across the cleavage. Looks like lovely belled wrists. I don`t think you will have to don the White Lies later on.............. and you may go hungry (in the food sense only!!)

by the way, the pattern book has some great things I wish I could wear but I know my girls will love.
