Eileen! You are a knitting goddess!
|
MacChick Your daughter would probably love to "read" (have you read) the Anne of Green Gables books (Lucy Maude Montgomery). I don`t think that they are common in the US, but are a children`s classic in Canada. Anne is a red-headed orphan who goes to live with an "older" childless couple who really wanted a boy! They live on Prince Edward Island where the authors home is a tourist attraction and the summer theatre is always "Anne Of Green Gables". Anne is very bright, a romantic at heart and leads a very interesting childhood.... Les

Eileen! You are a knitting goddess!

I loved the first Anne book and so did my oldest daughter. I don`t usually buy videos, but did buy that series of Anne of Green Gables after my daughter enjoyed it so much. I remember seeing something about the fans in Japan who were building homes just like the one in PEI complete with picket fences! Les

communication and yarn quantity

I`d do them different rather than frog. He apparently doesn`t care and just wants to get hunting in some cozy sox that won`t slip down and bunch up on the bottom of his foot! And as Libby says, they`ll be the talk of the hunting gang. And as time permits, you can make another pair just like them and then you`d have two matching pair! Les

Bea - how`s the rogue?
|
Bea - I`m glad you`re doing the Rogue. I really want to do that one in the near future. Hope to follow in your wake!
Keep us posted on how it`s going. Last night I thought I`d try to swatch the triangle of cable on the sleeve cuff and kept ending up with too many stitches at the end of the row! Not too familiar with reading charts, tho it can`t be that hard can it? sure is a many-paged pattern isn`t it! Les

Will Be away For A Little While
|
Oh, Eileen - I feel for you. That`s crummy to have to move - let alone move to somewhere youre not happy about. Had to do that myself years ago. At least you`ll be closer to T. Hope you find the perfect place with room for your stash. Good luck, girl! Keep a stiff upper lip and hum a happy song!! Les

Ultimate knitting indulgence
|
Ohhh, it sounds lovely Theresa! Pricey, yes, but hey we all need to treat ourselves with something extravigant now and again. Now when you put your binder down it will be a beautiful piece of art on your coffee table unlike my binders that are cast offs from my kids with things like "Claire Rocks" or "School Sucks" and little hearts felt-penned on!! LOL I picture it in a fuschia colour - close? Les

Laura: have you start your camel pullover?
|
Hi SK I`ve knit rolled hems where they just go perfectly and others that didn`t want to stop rolling (a bulky yarn). Just where you want a great big roll - on the hip line!!LOL A friend of mine always knits as much of a roll as she wants and then does a purl row on the right side which stops the roll. then she continues in stockinette. The purl row doesn`t show as the roll hides it. She knits beautiful Irish knit sweaters with wool from sheep she raises and almost always does a very small roll rather than a ribbing. Les

another few poncho notes...
|
wow, MacChick, that capelet/poncho is really pretty - on both of you! You`ve been having fun, haven`t you!! I had some knitting fun for a couple of days - we had threats of snow - yikes! so I started a scarf using some coveted single balls of yarn. A couple of types of alpaca, some mohair, some Noro Kuryon and a few stripes of black bernat eyelash to tie it together. Knit it lengthwise in garter stitch. Turned out to be 94" before the fringe. Only made it 5" wide so it`s not too thick for wrapping around my neck. I quite like it! still need a digital camera! Les

that I am constantly stopping to admire the pic of Anne all dressed up in front of the stone wall. It is really a gorgeous picture - the way her hair catches the sun, the drape of the poncho, and the neat stone wall. Beautiful!! Les

Off to Saltspring...........
|
Behind as ever, I am in the middle of packing for my trip. Leave in a couple of hours and will step onto the island at about 1:30 this aft if all goes well and there is no interference from menacing water towers! Spoke to Alice last night - Heather L is there. A friend living on one of the other islands whom, I haven`t seen since the early 70`s, is coming for a day! Wahoo! Ann - 250-537-8586 Private line at Sunset Farm - if you can come for a visit - hope so...... Les

A Wonderful Week on Salt Spring
|
I`ll say......it was great! So much fun! I made my way over to SP with my "naughty dog" suitcase, you know the old kind with the leash! It was overstuffed, as usual, and unbenounced (sp)to me, the ball bearings had rusted so the effect was like getting the grocery shopping cart with the wonky wheel which all of a sudden stops! then the suitcase would fall over. I`m sure I was a sight, talking and cursing to my suitcase! I was so pleased to arrive at the lovely and charming log house at Sunset Farm. Gorgeous pastoral location with a wonderful view of the strait and Vancouver Island.
Met the six great knitters (among them,Heather L. and CLK (Cheryl)from this site)and forged new friendships. Gave a start to 3 new projects and worked a bit on my Uros sweater which was my first Elann purchase last year! Maybe I`m just trying to savour it! LOL
Alice and DH Mark are wonderful and generous hosts catering to our every whim! Alice is as masterful in the kitchen as she is with the needles (absolutely wonderful meals)and I`m afraid she didn`t get as much knitting done as she would have liked to as we were always seeking her expertise!
Meeting Ann, Bob and son Lee was such an added treat as well. I hope they got a kick out of meeting the people who think so highly of them! They probably didn`t realize that they had such cult status! It turned out to be a great day for their travel through the islands.
I also met with my old buddy whom I met in grade 6 and hadn`t seen since my 20`s! She lives on a nearby island! We just picked up where we left off and mosied around the island and checked out some of the artist studios one day. Lots of talent on the island.
I could go on..........but you`ll have to check it out yourself! Les

today`s offering -- mittens?
|
I`ve always admired that style of mitten. Actually, at the retreat on Salt Spring, I learned how to do the trim used on the cuff of the mittens pictured at the above site. it`s the bit that looks like <<<<<<<<<! I`m using it on a hat. I`ll bet todays yarn would be perfect for those mitts. Les

A Wonderful Week on Salt Spring
|
Eileen, Theresa and Benne - there were some water towers lurking in the forest at the farm!! LOL! I didn`t notice the pair the first day, but the second day, there they were, hiding in the forest of SP. They were maybe about 15 feet high or more and cylindrical. Very short stubby legs - if they had any at all!! What is it about these knitting gatherings and water towers?? Les

Patricia- What a great looking shawl

That`s one nice shawl, Patricia. Your "blend" of the colours is terrific. I love that Koigu yarn. It`s really special yarn to work with isn`t it - each strand is like art. (I made a hat - the shawl pattern scares me !) Les

Roll Call-The guy in the red suit in 90 days-what`s on your needles?
|
Yikes! I have a bit of a problem with people like you keeping track of time. LOL! My method of survival is "flying by the seat of my pants" - it seems to work!!! I just got a new job, doubling my out of store jobs, to 40 hours per month - so must get myself organized! When we were on SP island, we went to the fall fair. We all bought somthing at the alpaca yarn booth. 100g skeins of yarn in natural colours - yum. I liked a hat- already knit (rows of 7 sts. lace between 2 rows of purl) in cream (natural) handspun yarn. but It was kinda pricey. Oh, this is hilarious,...... Heather heard it was 13 dollars but it was 30 dollars which I knew but didn`t know she thought it was $13. so, she enabled me and I bought it!! It is quite lovely, and I would love to figure out the pattern and make one or two...... It is very fine and soft. something you could just stuff in your pocket. I have located an alpaca farm out here with yarn to sell, in the boonies where I have to travel for work. I may make some little lacy hats for my local buddies. i think I`d also like to make some felted bags, too, for xmas. Basically, just little things. Les
