Dr. time again Oh, yes, i`m here, and yup, that`s what I do. I don`t like to offer advice unless asked! Learned that from my dad who is a plant guy!!
Libby - don`t stress yet!! the test hasn`t been taken!! LOL (as if I`ve never done that!!)
It sounds like you are doing terrific with 14 lbs for 6 months! Every mom gains at a different rate from the next. some gain a whole bunch at the beginning and then they slow down and some, very little at the beginning - sounds like you were gaining "juuust right" - somewhere in the middle. The last trimester is when the little guy starts to starts to plump up and when the mom gains most, so I guess she wanted you to keep an eye on your intake. (not sure if I like her conniption tactics!!) your increasing girth may require you to eat less at each meal so small meals and between meal snacks work well. so,It`s important then, not to fill up on the junk leaving less room for the good stuff for you and the baby. Keep up with the fruits and veggies - all kinds and all colours - is what I say. Kinda like a knitting stash!!

I`m baffled! I have been working on the following sweater. The front and back are finished and I have started the sleeves which is pick up and knit down to the wrist.
I have 2 problems.
1. While knitting, I slipped rather than knit the first stitch on each row - just something I usually do for a nice edge - not asked for in the pattern. Now, I have to pick up 83 stitches but I have only 70-some stitch loops to pick up through. I could do some twice but it doesn`t look smooth. Should I do some increasing on the next row to get the number up to 83?
2. At the armhole, there are 6 cast off stitches on each side. These were not to be included in picking up stitches for the sleeves!! This is what it says to do to finish:
Finishing
Sew first 8 rows of sleeve to the cast off stitches at the armhole at each side. Sew side and sleeve seams.

This is unusual to me - isn`t there going to be something funny looking going on under the arm? has anyone any experience with this type of sleeve finishing?

I`m baffled! Thanks so much, Laura. That is very helpful! I feel so much better!! Actually after I threw the sweater down in disgust, I got thinking along those lines about the sleeve assembly but I initially thought there was going to be a puckery thing happening. That`s a good site, isn`t it.

knitting for charity I have thought about this too. I have decided that If I do some charity knitting I would do it for a local emergency womens and childrens shelter where they arrive with nothing but the shirts on their backs.....

Shoe how-to questions-someone out there knows the answer- Somewhere out there on the web is a glue site! I think it was done with a bit of a sense of humour but actually practical info......I will see if I bookmarked it. I think you`d need some sort that dries with some give like "goop" or "shoe-goo" that are used for sneakers. I`ll hunt and then get back to you.

Back from the Knitting retreat in Scotland That`s just between you and us that it was better than Egypt, right? LOL!
I`ll bet it was terrific - and the environment! ( did a google search) I have rellys in Orkney - way up NE of there (maternal grandfather) and they make the distinction that they are not Scots but are Orkadian!! I correspond with a distant relative who I found while researching the family genealogy. I`d love to get there someday.
Do the presenters hang out with you for the whole week? or do they do their thing and then leave? What sort of projects did you work on? how`d they like their spindles? (just a few questions to help you procrastinate from solving the laundry crisis etc.)
Glad it was fun.

If I didn`t love her so much I would not knit with turkey basters It sounds like your GQ brother has passed the test and is now worthy of you knitting him something new and wonderful out of something in the Peruvian collection!! If he handwashes - he`s worthy!

Play time When you need a break from your project, try swatching this. it`s kind of fun!

It makes a reversible scarf/shawl/or whatever. I think it would make a terrific baby blanket.
