felting PatW - Your Lambs Pride Bulky will be perfect and will knit up fast. My first project was in the Lambs pride (regular -not bulky) and worked beautifully. The 15% mohair makes it gorgeous- you don`t notice the mohair before you felt but you sure do afterwards.
Tips from what I`ve read:
* avoid any superwash wools
* white (unless it is a natural colour ie from a white lamb) and even some light colours (probably like a pale blue, etc.) have undergone some sort of bleaching process and won`t felt. heathered shades sometimes felt more slowly than solid colours.
* The Gjestaal lopi type yarn felts well. I`ll bet the white buffalo does too tho I haven`t tried it.

I`m convinced that the agitation has more effect than the actual temp of the water so throw a pair of jeans in the washer (don`t use too much water)with the project when you felt it. It is fun because you can open the washer and check it frequently to see if it`s started to felt - then all of a sudden it happens!!

Beverly Galeskes (felted knits)has a method for test driving your yarns to see if they will felt:
take about a yard of yarn and wet it with warm water. add a drop of lishwashing liquid and roll it around between your hands like a ball of dough. Check it after a few(how many is a few?) minutes and if it felts into a firm ball, that yarn is a good one.

But don`t worry too much, just have fun and consider it all an experiment!
Have fun!

PatW, have you picked a pattern for your bags? PatW - If you`re really trying to speed along, here`s a tip from my last project. this one was a round bottomed bag. I crocheted the bottom in single crochet. I used two colours and used one at a time, crocheting over the other when not in use, creating random blotches. Then I just picked up stitches to knit on a circ. for the rest of the bag. Looked really good and eliminates the need for stitching the bottom when you are so excited about just getting it in the washer to felt!! You don`t even notice that it is not knit.

need help from design guru`s Gee, I like the sounds of it already. Will have to look that yarn up to visualize it. sounds like a tricky one to work with but at least the shop owner gave you the benefit of her wisdom!! Less cursing that way!!
Have fun!!

in a quirky mood, must be a full moon, do you do this? Patricia - Ooh, red-light green-light, double dutch and kick the can............. had lots of fun in the evenings playing those with the neighborhood kids of varying ages!! When you made you "not your mothers....." did you change the shape of the coat? I think one time you were thinking of doing that. Let me know how the fit is.
Lucky you have the DGC for diversion! and with DH coming home a reason to get the dirt off the floor!! I hate housework!!!

eileen - for you http://www.estelledesigns.ca/images/EstellePatterns%202004/YoungTouch/YoungTouch.htm
I found this pattern for a tank and thought of you - the signature cable! I like the neckline (I like scoops and v`s) and straps of this pattern and the pretty cable.

Alice-What exactly does a knitting Dorcas group do? As kids, we used to use "dorcas" as a derrogatory word, as in "you dorcas"! "why did you do that?" however I have never seen it written so it may be a different word!
;-} I always laugh when you mention the group!

Is it just me ? The solid has a much softer hand than the print and for me, is nicer to knit with.

Sorry about the Flames girls! Sniff!!
As they say, it was the longest of long shots for the Flames to win the cup this year. Odds were 151-1 so I guess the team should be pretty proud - and it was fun. Calgary went nuts during the playoffs - nothing like this since they hosted the Winter Olympics in `88. (Remember Katarina Witt, and Eddy the Eagle the extremely legally blind Brit who soared off the ski jump?) Up to 60,000 people gathered each game night on "the Red Mile" down the road from the Saddledome. The fans had a good ride!
