102 yr. old woman still knitting-part3 You mean the staff at the home wont hand wash Dorothy`s sweaters in Eucalan? LOL It sounds like D is being well looked after by her daughter which is nice. How about that irony there, that this dear 100 yo woman is now uping her age by two years? Is that what happens?
How have your parents settled into the home? Do they like it well enough? Have they made friends? I`m sure many of us are dealing with aging parents. Mine are both 84 and living in their own home and enjoy relatively good health. Dad golfs and x-c skiis a few times in the winter and is a bit of a social butterfly. Mom is more of a homebody. I don`t get to see them as often as I`d like as they are a 4 hour drive away and it scares me when Dad drives them down to visit us!! He tends to get tired. Thank goodness for the phone and e-mail.

Here`s a survey for you Oh, the memories!! LOL I lived in Michigan for a year when I was 8yo. I remember the great glue we had at school. It was the kind in a little pot with the brush attached to the lid. I remember the great smell of that - and the taste!! It was a treat as we didn`t use that kind of glue where I came from. Ours was the honey coloured mucelage. Nondescript smell and taste!!

PatW -travel info This is the 3rd time I’ve tried to respond with a post! my blessed computer is doing some weird stuff today and shuts down before I finish. I’m writing in word now and saving every paragraph!!

People seem to be checking if Salt Spring is doable. Of course, location is not going to work for everyone, nor will the dates work for everyone.

We`re all running pretty busy lives and Sept will be here before we know it. We need time to work out the logistics such as what’s it going to cost, getting time off work, getting work coverage, calling in favours for chauffeuring, child care, negotiations with family members, etc.
From what Alice said, I don’t think that we would find nicer or more economical food/accomodation for a group. Having a place where we can all congregate is important. Not having to go out for meals saves more time for fun! And what a beauty of a spot - we wouldn‘t want for activities! Alice, if you were cooking, would you be able to join in on the fun? Could we help you?

Checked the date of the Fall Fair - it is Sept 18-19. here is the website http://www.saltspringmarket.com/salt_spring_island/fallfair.htm

There is also a website for photo’s of the island

http://www.flatearthphoto.com/SSI.htm

We need to know:

* are you seriously considering this as an option
* How many days?
* Alice - Is the farm available? What price range (I know it depends on how many people attend) would we be looking at for accomodation. You have already mentioned food costs.

I’m seriously considering it and if it’s a go, probably would travel on the Thurs, and leave on the Monday.

Comments?
(if anyone is coming from afar and wants to do the trip in 2 legs, they could always come to Calgary and I`d pick them up and then the 2 of us could continue the next day)

Letter to Ann: I agree MacChick! i love seeing the completed or finished projects. It`s funny because what we "see" in the photo is not always "what it really is" and it inspires us to try something new. I remember commenting on the colours tchemgrrl used in her moms hat. I was way off from what she used but it made me think of possible colour combos to use. Or just like us wondering if Shui Kuens cable on her black sweater was real or intarsia. - both good possibilities to include in a future project. Or Marions vest - who knows how the vest in the little picture was constructed - but she tried it in her own way from what she saw and it is terrific. Keep `em coming, but gee guys, I`d love to see your little faces popping out of the neckline!!

Everyone is running pretty busy lives and Sept will be here before we know it. And - we all know from Yarn buying experience that "you snooze, you lose" We need time to work out the logistics such as what’s it going to cost, getting time off work, getting work coverage, calling in favours for chauffeuring, child care, negotiations with family members, etc.

I miss Theresa from Queens! I do too, Benne! She always makes me laugh with her turn of a phrase! She must really be twitchy without her computer.

I found this... There`s a lot of cool stuff there besides the buttons. Reminds me of the things in a store nearby where I bought my SIL a set of S&P shakers. They were Marilyn Monroe sitting on a big cushion (2 piece) I also found a rhinestone necklace and bracelet set for her. Hope she had as much fun with them as I had finding them!!

Skirts, anyone? Somewhere in someones blog, and it was recently, and I was sure I bookmarked it, and I`ve been looking for it for an hour...... there is the coolist knit skirt in a linen blend It is hipster, has a netlike st. at the waist and is straight with a fringe on the bottom.
Wish I were a tad younger!!
Will continue the hunt.........and thanks, I`m getting my bookmarks somewhat organized!!

This got buried! Heather : when Alice was talking about the possibility of the camp on Thetis Island she said that it would work out to be about $40.00 Canadian for rooms and meals. She said that on Salt Spring it would be a bit more and the meals would be better. Ya sure can`t beat that! would you drive to Seattle? or Vancouver? How long would it take you?

Meeting on Salt Spring Oh, good work Alice!!
Poor Sandy, how long, I wonder, will it take for her son`s family to build a house? Big enough for a family of five, she might have them till after Christmas!
Thinking aloud.......I`t not likely that I could swing a week long stay but maybe arrive Thurs and leave Monday. I haven`t sprung much info to the family, co-workers etc. yet, but timing and details are everything (where I live!)!!LOL

Frogging and YugiOh Great story Heather.
Good for you Heather, giving enough encouragement with your discrete presence and then backing off and letting him be big and brave enough to get in the game.

To Benne: Oh, dear, Shui Kuen - they may have come here!
I put out my feeder a couple of weeks earlier in anticipation of their arrival which I always thought was may 15. They came the first week of may!! my 13 year old feeder was replaced this year as some of the little perches had broken off (heavy weight hummers?) as well as the yellow flowers at the openings.

I like my feeder. It`s made of glass with a plastic screw-on bottom with the perches and openings and a plastic screw-on top with the hanger attached. One can feed more than one hummer at once tho they most often chase each other to drink alone!! There appears to be some definate dominance among the group of hummers we have!
Hope yours arrive soon.......They sure are fun!
