How this works I am new to this amazing site and haven`t knit for a while. I have some alpaca/llama on order and just got my first subscription yarn package. So, I`m trying to figure out the drill.
I have found some patterns I`m interested in and found they are out of stock. (Stricktrends) If they are on the site still, does that mean that they may get more of the patterns?

Am awaiting to see someones alpaca projects come on line! Hurry up!

Clanky Stash I too was trying to organize the needles Ihave bought or inherited along the way. trying to put pairs together and not having elastics (rubber bands for you americans) near by, I went to find my daughters little elastics for her braces. They work great. they are only about a quarter of an inch in diameter and so you don`t have to twist them around to get them tight enough, just slip them on!! No kids at home in braces? - try the high school!

Also in a current knitting mag there was an organizer for circ. needles. One could make one quite easily or get a sewer to do it for a pair of mittens. It looked like a piece of canvas, say 5 inches wide or so and let`s say 24 inches long. fold the bottom to the top and sew horizontal channels. Then just slide one end of the needle through to the other side and let it hang. the "thing" had some way of hanging up in your closet or on the wall. Looked kind of handy.

Where is the Casual Cables pattern you are all speaking about? Some of you have been talking about this pattern. Where is it? I have been wanting to do something with cables and have some Uros coming soon......

Uros - possible problem I have started a sweater with uros this am. I started from the center fo the ball and am not having any problem other than miscounting my stiches (what can I blame that on?) It isn`t overly twisted as Machick found after she wrapped it into a ball.

Pattern for my Uros I had ordered the Cables and Lace pattern from Elann along with my Uros yarn. I started the sweater and had to rip it out about 6 times (no exageration) and finally quit.
I searched my pattern books and mags but couldn`t find what I was looking for. We live in the country outside of Calgary and I reluctantly went in to the YS and found some patterns. Looking for one but brought home 5 or 6! Anyway, I started the cardigan Hayfield Double Knitting #4650. It is a v-neck,long sleeved sweater which comes just to the waist and has a sort of basketweave look ie. squares of knit, beside squares of purl/knit. Much less complex than the cables and lace but quite sharp looking! Now my family can actually talk to me when I am knitting.I`m happy, they`re happy.
The Uros is terrific to knit with and didn`t stretch out like most does when you have to rip out and reknit so many times. I love it. bought myself my first pair of Addi`s yesterday too. I do love them - they ARE fast.

Pattern for my Uros I have the Mocha Cream, I think it`s called. The pattern I have shows the sweater in kind of a med brown which looks beautiful - probably just the model!! Ya, let me know how the cables and lace works for you. I just found that with over 200 sts on the needle, and the fact that you don`t know if you mucked up till two rows later it was no fun!! One really needs no interuptions and I get them all the time.

Pattern for my Uros I just went to the yarn site to see the "Cactus" it looks beautiful. Just saw Farmingarmon`s posting about the cables and lace and she say`s it`s a breeze! So there you go! Have at `er! I just need something a little more mindless as I`ve only knit a couple of things with a lacy bit and I need some more instant gratification right now!

scarf patterns that`s a great site for free patterns isn`t it! I looked at the Waikiki T-strap top and may show it to my 17 and 19 yr old girls. They of course would love the form-fittedness (is that a word?) I think they may like it for summer. I quit making them sweaters when they were about 5 as they wouldn`t wear them.

Steek photos Ann - I must compliment you on a terrifically designed website. The way one can navigate through and find yarns or patterns in the same gauge as the yarn you are looking at is great. The column of photos down the side is so much easier to use than trying to remember which message might contain the picture of what you are looking for. I`m sure glad that i stumbled on this site!!

Be Careful What You Wish For : ) !! That`s quite the story Lisa. I`m sure it wasn`t difficult to do! Thanks! I`ll consider myself warned!

swatches from samples From "Minnies" by Jil Eaton, whose patterns are all about using any similar yarn and obtaining the right gauge.
"Using the needles suggested in in the pattern, cast on the correct number of stiches to make a 4" swatch, plus 6. K 3 rows. Always k 3 stitches at the beginning and end of every row and work straight in the pattern stiches called for until the piece measures 4" then k 3 rows and bind off. Lay the swatch on a flat, smooth surface. Measure inside the garter stich frame; you should have 4" exactly. If your swatch is too big, or you have too few stiches per inch or centimeter, change to a needle one size smaller. If your swatch is too small, or there are too many stiches per inch, change to the next larger needles. Changing one size at a time, keep going until you get the correct gauge. The number of stiches per inch is most important; if the row gauge is eluding you, you can adjust as you work through the pattern."

The amount of yarn in the swatches won`t knit up a 4" square, but probably close enough to establish whether or not you are meeting the gauge requirements.

help! I don`t get it! Am making my first pair of socks. have made slippers before and have thus turned a heel. I just don`t know how to interpret the directions for these socks. It is the pattern for the Fortissima Colori socks.
I have 30 stitches on one dbl point needle for the heel flap and...............
It says:

Next Row: (RS)k to last st, bring yarn in front sl1, bring yarn to back, return slip st to LH ndl, turn work (called wrap and turn).

I can`t eplain what I don`t understand! I understand the abbreviations but just not the action I guess. Can anyone help me please?
thanks

dog sweater Daisy - Just last night I just laughing at the dogs in sweaters in the current Better Homes and Gardens "Knit It!" magazine. There is a pattern for a blue cable mock turtleneck which is modelled by a basset hound. Very fashionable I must say. directions are for S, M, and large. Have at `er and post the pic.

Anyone tried the Naturelle 8/8 on cones yet? Hi - since I`ve caught the knitting bug, I wanted to knit a fitted turtleneck sweater for my 17yo daughter. Can`t beat the price if the picky little thing doesn`t like it! Has anyone knit anything in it? how does it knit up? How does it feel? Where I live in the foothills of the canadian rockies one could wear a turtleneck nearly any month of the year. Esp. on a summer evening when it cools down a lot and is light until about 10 o`clock.

Anyone tried the Naturelle 8/8 on cones yet? Thanks so much for your input ladies. I think I`ll try it. Now I have to choose the colour! The sweater has a turtleneck - quite a loose one - it is the body of the sweater that is fitted.

Medical miracle for dry skin!!!!!! What a bunch of "eczematics" we are. At least we are able to come out of the closet about it, eh? I too have developed eczema in the past year. My mother said I had it when I was a newborn and she used lanolin on my skin. I Use Cetaphil on my face when i don`t just use water because someone has taken the Cetaphil to another bathroom. I`ve been using an ostrich cream on my face (the kids don`t touch this one!) purchased from the local farmer`s market. With the dry chinook winds we get here, it`s the only thing that saves the skin on my face during the winter. Need something for my legs and elbows so will try some of your suggestions. Thanks:-}

A new pet peeve Hmm, not wanting to be left out of the Quechua competition.......,(I did swatch up the hank I received and it knit up beautifully and even and I love it) I have been looking for a pattern I will love. So, I search the internet and see patterns I like but do they tell you what gauge the pattern is knit in? Noooo, they do not. Do they give any hint of how much yarn one might need? Nooooo, they do not. Makes me appreciate this site so much with the great info given for yarns and patterns.
So, how much DO you ladies buy for your stashes when it`s an as-yet-unknown-project? Just curious :-}!
