I have been wanting to do a bohus type hat which is in Homespun Handknit (Interweave Press) and plan to use some Brown Sheep sport weight yarn. Brown Sheep has lots of different colors. I`m allergic to angora. I saw the Kimmet Croft at the Estes Park Wool Show last June; it`s nice, pricey, but I can`t use angora. The bohus technique is intriguing. I like seeing your work on the gallery page.

Ok, roll call! Who`s working on what this week?
Wow! Just read the whole bunch. This week I`m up to the armholes on a vest with Araucania Bayberry in a pattern from Cheryl Oberle`s Folk Vests, up to armholes on a Louet wool yarn with a pattern from Elann (it`s been on hold quite a while now), started a pair of mittens in Lopi today while waiting for exDH running errands, and now want to warp two inkle looms for a weaving get together tomorrow. IT`s endless but I try to finish projects as soon as I can. Also finished spinning some Shetland wool (about 3-4 oz). Happy knitting to all!

Circular needles
Hi Silky, It won`t affect the size of the garment--that is determined by the number of stitches you use and the gauge (sts. per inch). Using a smaller needle that suggested may mean that your needle will be very crowded, and perhaps very hard to work with. The only way to tell is to cast on the sts and see how crowded the sts are between the tips. Happy knitting.

Knitting with Sascha yarn
Welcome! I knit a hat and pair of mittens from the Sascha and love the soft feel and warmth. My ribbing isn`t exactly neat, but then the yarn is not smooth. I knit on large needles, maybe #10 (don`t remember). I found it a bit fragile with all the little loops. However, the loops are what gives it its character. I think if you keep knitting, you`ll be happy with the results. But watch out for snagging. Happy knitting! Jamie ps--as Bets says, you could do a swatch of k1 p1 seed stitch in place of ribbing, and see how you like it.

Happy Easter
Benne, Glad all came out on the priest`s vestments. I am about to head out with a clean choir robe for the Easter Vigil service, but then I`ll go again tomorrow. The choir tonite will be limited. How kind of you to wash the vestments! Happy Easter and Happy Spring! We had spring a few weeks ago but now we are back to winter. 4-8 inches of snow around the Denver area! No one is complaining because we all know how dry it is? Oh, happy knitting, too! Jamie

Unbelievable, TWO works of art!
Yes, Two more beautiful pieces of lace knitting. They remind me of a much smaller blanket I made for my first daughter, about 39 years ago! I really love lace knitting but have never anything so large and so beautiful! Congratulations to Jean and Melinda, and thank you for posting them.

Waaaahhhh From the Backwoods!
So very sorry to hear of the color disaster. I live in the lower 48 or on the mainland (depending on your perspective) and really don`t know the name of the product even in the USA. Hope someone will fill me again, and repeat the info. Seems like something that I would like to have on hand. Ann, hope you find the magic information you need. Jamie

Another "Woe is me; I`ve run short of yarn" plea!
Mary Ellen, Sorry, I can`t help you. If nothing comes of your search, you may want to consider a lovely alpaca vest. It`s a lot of work and heartache is you already have the sleeves, but I have a few projects that started out to be sweaters, but ended up as vests because I ran out of year. Best luck, Jamie

Another "Woe is me; I`ve run short of yarn" plea!
Hi again, Mary Ellen, Just wanted to tell about two vests which started out to be sweaters. The one made from some handspun yarn (my own) was knit as a cardigan in one piece to the arm holes. It was then that I realized I didn`t have enough yarn and was unable to get the same dye lot in the roving I was using for the yarn. Bottom line is that I have worn the vest much more than I would ever have worn the sweater with sleeves. The other I can remember was a sweater made of yarn from a sweater I wore for a few years, then "unknit", washed, etc. and finally matched with a fine wool yarn for a bulkier knit. There again, didn`t have enough for sleeves (I thought it strange since the original sweater was a loosely knit cardigan). It has been a very popular vest. Good luck to you. Jamie

Hanks of wool
Hi! I get the hank straightened out and place carefully over my knee (it hits my legs and in my lap) and then wind carefully. You may have just the right sized stiff pillow to place the yarn over, and then pull it off the hank and wind loosely. Be sure to wind wool loosely so it has room to "breathe" and doesn`t get stretched. But speaking of tangled messes, isn`t that part of the fun of playing with fiber? There are good techniques used for untangling, but I have to admit, last week I cut a tangled warp I was trying to get on my loom, and threw it away! First time I`ve done this, but the mistakes in making the warp were all mine! Happy knitting. Jamie

Naturspun No. 1 cabled pullover
Hi Charlotte, It is late at night to be doing this but I do have the pattern but have not made the sweater. Here`s my take on it. You start where it says "Beg Small" and work right to left on the chart. Notice where it says" Center of Back and Front" in the last panel to the left. You should reverse the pattern at this point, then do the same for the back of the sweater. I counted 80 sts (that is 40 sts from "Beg Small" to "Center of Back and Front"; that would give you the 80 for the front, and 80 for the back--160 sts for the whole sweater. Hope this is a help. Jamie

Bon voyage! It looks like I am going to miss the Estes Park Wool Market on June 10-13, so I wish I had hooked up with you for the Maryland fest, and to visit my DD in Baltimore. Have great fun!
