DID YOU SEE THE SNEAK PEEKS?????!!!!!!!! FIrst to Bets: I`ll hide it for you in bug free Colorado; I am quite sensitive to alpaca and don`t use it!
To Carrie: I guess we all are different but I can`t be around angora (at least not touch it without itching), then alpaca doesn`t work although I have a lovely cape in alpaca given to me by a Bolivian friend but I can only wear it a short while. Mohair isn`t so bad as long as only my hands touch it. Wool I do tolerate with few problems. I`m allergic to cats, but don`t know about other animals. I wish you fewer problems that mine, cos alpaca is a beautiful fiber. Jamie

One Happy Aussie! SUsan, Congratulations! Isn`t it great to know when it`s 6 a.m. on NA`s west coast? Welcome to the chatroom. It`s great to have a perspective from "down under". Jamie

I feel so very terracotta today Oh, I love salmon color! It`s the new fall look. I love the sweater pattern also! Ann is tempting us all this month. Enjoy! Jamie
I installed a hi speed ISP so it`s a lot more fun for me to chat on this site.

Seeking Advice Please Hi Patricia, Personally I don`t think the colors of the Taj are shown off well in a lacy pattern. It might be better knit on large needles. You will really have to swatch with different needles to see the effect. I haven`t "played" with the Taj that I bought, but I also hope to make scarves in a lacy pattern but I also have the possibility to making it the weft in a woven design. I didn`t buy enough to make a larger garment. Happy knitting, Jamie

Patricia, that is one gorgeous poncho! Hi Patricia, The poncho is great. I love the finishing touch with the colorful variegated Red Heart. I made ponchos like this one for my DDs when they were young. They received a lot of wear. They make great blankies when the kids are sleeping for a nap somewhere. Your colors are great. Hope you DGD really loves it! Jamie

You know you have a problem when... I think we`d be amazed by our stashes! Each yarn shop I enter looks a lot like parts of my house -- I have a closet, baskets (big ones), shelves, boxes and plastic bags full of yarn -- and today I returned some to the LYS but more bought via internet. Is there hope? I want the BIGGEST award! Jamie

Yarn stash You have lots of company with similar stashes here. Most are busy knitting away. Happy knitting, Jamie

Yarn stash......and the winner goes to Eileen, May I suggest you keep your stash small. BTW, anyone who wants to come shop at my house is always welcome. WHEn I mention having too much yarn, my fiberholic friends all laugh and say -- well, who doesn`t? At to think, I knit, spin and weave and have fiber for each skill. Happy kniting, Jamie

question about fingerless gloves Hi Benne, Great xmas gift. I`d suggest the lighter lopi; I think it will be easier to work around fingers with no stitches, and also think the lite lopi will be warm enuf. I`m in Eileen`s camp; I made a pair of gloves once, but have made hundreds (really!) of mittens. Lots of people prefer gloves, but I like mittens if you really want to have warm hands. Don`t get me wrong, I think you`re on the right track with fingerless gloves. Happy knitting! Jamie BTW Have you finished the poncho?

This website has some pretty rovings and yarns Hi Heather, Thanks for the lead. Yes, indeed! Beautiful colors and not a bad price on the rovings. Have you ever spun Romney? What is it like? I hate to think how long it would take to spin a pound of roving! I`m kinda slow! Jamie

Itchy Alpaca? Hi! I don`t know if you can call alpaca "itchy" but some people are very sensitive to this fiber, and lots of others. It depends on the person. I have problems with alpaca, but I know it is a warm, light weight fiber. Only your daughter will know. Jamie

question about fingerless gloves Hi Benne, I`m enjoying large needles less and less. WORking on the Outback mohair on #11 and find my hands more tense than with smaller (4-6) needles. My first project was also socks; they turned out okay with my knowing much about knitting. An excellent learning project! Happy knitting to you. My hands and wrist are bothered more that anything my clicking the mouse, even when it`s in my lap! SO.....much less time on the computer. Jamie

my yarn stash Yes, with all that fleece, you probably win! I know of a 4H mother who turned the fiber animal project into a full time yarn business, and now has added a wool processing mill. The sheep have been joined by alpacas, etc., etc., etc. Maybe it is time to find them new homes. Happy knitting! Jamie

what did i do wrong with buffalo unspun? Hi Caroline, WBuffalo is 6 strands of what is called pencil roving, (roving is unspun fibers all lined up ready to spin, but it doesn`t have to be spun) and it will tear easily, even as a 6 strand fiber. It helps to give a small twist to the strands as you take it off the "cake", especially at the first of the project. I suggest that you knit with a somewhat loose tension (at least at first). The tearing becomes less with practice. Just knitting the strands of roving makes it quite strong, and the knitted project wears well. I use it almost always with 3 strands; I divide from the original cake carefully into two piles (I let it collect for about 6-9 feet, then gently wind on two balls). Each knitter develops her own techniques for this. Before being knitted it is very subject to breaks. The breaks can be repaired by rubbing the two ends together, as if you were splicing between balls of yarn. I`m not real good at this skill and usually continue knitting with a loose end to work in later in the knitting. I have been using WBuffalo for about 10 years for mittens, hats, ponchos and sweaters. It is light weight and wonderfully warn. With an 8 ounce cake you can make a pair of mittens and a hat. Or mittens and a scarf.
Happy knitting. Jamie
