Calculating yardage-formula Hi Marion,
It might help to look at the chart I devised on the FAQ page (click Info/Help, and then Yarn FAQ) for figuring out how much yarn to buy between gauges. You`ll notice that the differences between the gauges and sizes shown on the chart are rounded mathematical calculations, and you will see my factors for each if you divide one into another. e.g. if your worsted weight garment used 1800m (1980 yards), then the same garment in sport weight would take 2275m (2503 yards) or approx. 1.26 times any worsted yardage to get sport yardage, etc. If you try it, let me know how it works out for you!

Stopping bottom edge from rolling?? If you like the look of a clean stockinette edge, and want to keep that edge from rolling, here`s a trick I use which works quite nicely. With a 32" or 39" circular needle, with RS facing pick up and knit the number of stitches equal to your front and back pieces combined, picking up only the back loops of your cast on edge. Join circle and K 1 row. Cast off.

Yeah! - finished top -- and a question Hi Beatrice,

This recommendation is generally given for yarns that tend to knit on the bias in stockinette. Pattern stitches, particularly those with an even number of knits and purls on the RS and then on the WS of the work will overcome this problem.

Arrrgghhhh! Why do they do that? It`s frustrating, isn`t it?! If you click Info/Help, and then FAQ, you`ll see a discussion of how to re-size patterns, with an example of one of our free patterns made larger.

If you want mohair, look at the Plymouth Outback I agree with you 100% about this mohair, Benne. When the shipment arrived, and I saw those gigantic, beautiful hanks, the richness of them took my breath away! I think Plymouth does a terrific job of shopping the world for the best possible quality at the best possible prices.

Let`s readdress this Vancouver bit again- Yes, I`d be delighted to hop on the ferry and join everyone for a few hours. Would it be okay if I didn`t bring any yarn, though??? I`d love nothing better than to meet you all, but I have to be honest and tell you that bringing yarn would take the fun out of it for me. I rarely take a day off, and it would be so nice to just kick back and enjoy a good laugh with you.

cotton flake yarn??? Hi Judy,

I`ve seen the name cotton flake used to describe soft, nubby cotton with slubs.

Mango Moon Recycled Silk - Question for Ann Yes, thanks, Diane, and let me just add that Elann is working hard to try to bring you yarns like these directly, so that without short-changing the deserving producers, we can still offer price breaks.

We welcome any and all yarn and product suggestions you have. Diane has agreed to keep a list of these, and show it to me once a month. We can then, wherever strategy permits it, work these ideas into our overall purchasing plan. Just keep in mind that we have positioned Elann to offer quality yarns at discount prices, and we`d like to continue along these lines. It`s a fact of business that to stay in business, we must be ever mindful of our market positioning and not exhaust our resources on products outside that strategy.
