Bets - someone must have intercepted our emails! Check out page 80-81 in the new Knitters. What do you think of "Square Play", the square motif top in patterned sock yarn? It`s exactly what we were discussing for pieced sock yarn garments, and made up in a sock yarn identical to Elann`s Sock it To Me Puzzle color 718-Springtime!

Talented and varied projects. Yes, and I went to scroll through the archived projects the other day, and was surprised to get an error message. Peter quickly fixed the problem this morning - he had the page set up to display a maximum of 100 pictures, and I guess we surprised him by hugely exceeding his expectations. He`s now got it bumped up to 1,000. Keep up the good work all!

Wow Bets! What a great fit on the bathing beauty Yes, I agree, Marion. But if you`re anything like me, you didn`t appreciate what you had when you had it! Such is life, eh?

A Very Affordable Color Reference I was bowled over when I called a local Benjamin Moore Paint store recently and found that they offer their complete collection of color chips for just $24.99 CAD. I was even more impressed when I went in to buy it, and found that the price included a beautiful padded nylon carry case to hold the two huge fans of color chips.

I don`t know if these are available in the US, but I`d be very surprised if they weren`t. I was thinking that they would make an excellent communication tool for us when we`re trying to describe yarn colors to each other. I was thinking that if we all had them, one of you might even volunteer to keep a list of the group`s most sought-after colors, and then I could translate these into yarn colors when we`re putting together new yarn collections.

Any thoughts?

A Very Affordable Color Reference Going by the index, Marion, there are about 1800+ colors over the 2 fans.

A Very Affordable Color Reference Yes, I have a Pantone color fan for textiles, and it would ultimately be a Pantone reference that I would give to the mill, so that they could produce the correct color. Pantone fans can be purchased from the Pantone website, but they`re a significant investment.

If you do have a Pantone textiles fan, MacChick, let me tell you that I`ve picked your "ballet pink" as being close to Pantone 12-1010 TPX (Scallop Shell). In the Benjamin Moore fan, I`d say it`s 2169-60 (peach cloud). You might want to check these:-)

Funny you should mention DMC embroidery floss - just last week I ordered in shade cards for these, as I was thinking of offering the them for this very purpose in our "Samples" section. They are also an excellent communication tool. Perhaps we don`t need to get into the nuances of 1800+ paint colors, and should limit ourselves to the DMC range!

A Very Affordable Color Reference Great, Jean. And guess what arrived here this afternoon? . . . the shade cards from DMC. The Cotton Embroidery card is absolutely beautiful. Of course, colors always look super-rich in mercerized cotton, because of it`s sheen . . the effect of the whole card is just brilliant! I`ll make inquiries about ordering large quantities of these for resale, and see what I can come up with for us.

The 100% wool card is also lovely (different completely, because it has fewer colors, and no light reflects off the wool, but wonderful, just the same). Unfortunately, I don`t think these are mass produced for resale. I could, however, look into offering the wool tapestry skeins themselves -- then we could have them available as both color tools and lovely colors to embellish our knitting with.

A Very Affordable Color Reference Hi Bets,
Yes, you`re right on with what`s generally popular blues, purples, then reds, then neutrals, and then the others.

Ann, I just found another color tool Benne, what a coincidence - I was just looking at this very tool at Dharma Trading only yesterday. I agree that it looks really useful. The new Deb Menz book that Jamie mentioned, is also along these lines, and is excellent too.

Whenever I want to play with colors, I`m always frustrated if I have a fan or a shade card where I can`t pull the colors out, and play with the chips to better see how they work with each other. Does the 3in1 Color Tool allow you to do this, or are the chips permanently riveted together?

Ann, I just found another color tool Yes, I agree that it would be terrific for all the purposes you mention, Benne. I`ve ordered some in for us, but they`re out of stock at the publishers right now, so it will probably be very late June before we get them.

Sneak Peek Phew! All this month`s newsletter yarns are now up on Sneak Peek. My favorite is the Lara Cotton. I`m just thrilled with the lustre and fineness of it. The other beauty of it is that its solid shades are a perfect match for the colors in its prints. The matches are as follows:

333 Lavender Sachet - 244 Mauve, 323 Antique Plum, and 324 Lavender.
334 Neptune - 305 Azure, 306 Turkish Blue, and 308 Marine.
335 Wine Shadows - 220 Burgundy, 326 Claret, and 332 Crimson.
336 Sunbird - 246 Burnished Tangerine, 247 Brick, and 303 Toast.
337 Amazon - 237 Butter, 254 Deep Olive, and 910 Green Tea.
338 Crimson Sky - 306 Turkish Blue, 326 Claret, 328 Deep Cyclamen, and 332 Crimson.

Chemo caps - part 2 Oh Les, what a terrific site! I only wish I had known about this site when my mother and I were looking for suitable headgear to take her through her many rounds of chemo. I really like the nightcaps idea - they look so comfortable, and the turbans and snoods are so elegant.

Oh, the Torture... Oh dear, MacChick - Diane will have another copy of the newsletter in the mail to you tomorrow - our apologies!

Anyone have this formula? Marion, I allow approximately 30% for sleeves, so I would multiply the yardage by .7 to .75 for a sleeveless vest.

ACB and Cotton We have asked Nova Yarn to send us one more very small shipment of Araucania Nature Cotton (same dyelots as last time, where possible) this summer. If you`d like to be notified by email when it comes in, just email diane@elann.com, and ask her let you know. I read in your post below that you`re looking for more 06 Muted Apricot, and I do believe we`ll be getting this color in the same dyelot (L1104).
