Well that just sucks. I don`t have dogs, so i`m not much in terms of explaining this. I would be hurt too, though of course you can`t reason with a dog.
I re-read the messages from before. People on this board have a lot of passion about being good to animals. I think that this passion was NOT directed at you or your family, but at the masses of people who don`t even have the good sense to have this discussion within their families. They just let "nature take its course" and then burden everyone else with resulting cruelty. But of course, domestic dogs and cats are domestic, meaning that they rely on man to care for them.
Really, as I read it, the message that people on this board were trying to send to you was this: "You go, girl! Silly men!"

Raspberry raisins

This morning I went out to my rented garden plot. I`m going slowly insane because it has not rained in Chicago in ages. Since May, I think. and everything has died. The grass has died; even trees are suffering, though they have long tap roots.
My black raspberries are suffering too. I picked a lot today, despite the prickers and stinging flies, but they are basically raspberry prunes or raisins--totally dried out. And there was a Japanese beetle too. Argh.
I tried a few raspberries; they have good flavor, though they are mostly seeds. Is there a way that I can use them in something? Ideas?
Please send rain to Chicago. I would have never thought that a lack of rain would drive me towards the funny farm as it has. I wash my car, walk without an umbrella, etc., in the hopes that the rain gods will strike. I`m a desparate woman.

Thanks for the sympathy. I will use your suggestions wisely! i do feel for farmers who have to make a living based on the weather. I would have never imagined how demoralizing it is to watch plants die for lack of rain.
