So disappointed I feel your pain. I`m such a loose knitter that I have to go down a few needle sizes. Well, sometimes you get to size 0 and can`t go anymore.

I`ve got to learn to knit as a "picker" sometime to see if that might help me get to the right gauge in certain cases. Wish one of you people lived around me so that I could learn!

Emily, your Point 5 scarf I do think it`s so funny that this bit of fluff has traveled so far.

My friend has funkier taste than I do; the scarf isn`t something I would wear (well, just once to the post office), but I think she will like it.

Maybe you should do a yarn swap with one of the regulars around here for something that you would use...you could post pictures on your blog. Or make it a prize for some sort of contest (like for charity, or whatever). Just thinking that you could make it interesting instead of just selling it.

Emily, your Point 5 scarf 18,841 miles for the fluff. Roughly. Guessing Melbourne to Wales, Wales to Midwest, Midwest to London. Think of the frequent flyer miles!

I am scaring myself--- Come see my basement. I have yarn--mostly elegantly aging yarn from a time in which I had $$$ in the basement. It is a sight to see.

Quiviut I made a small neckwarmer/scarf out of a skein of the handdyed. It is impossibly soft and warm.

But I understand why it`s so expensive. Did you know that the Alaskan herds had to be imported from Greenland, I think in the 1930s? All the Alaskan native musk ox had been killed off. (Sad.) And you can`t shear them, you have to comb out the fiber.

There was a woman who ran a small musk ox herd in Montana, I think. Do you remember Moco Yarns? Well, she reported on how hard it was to keep them fenced, as they are impossibly strong; she had to keep inventing sturdier fencing to keep them in. So, they`re not cheap to keep around. But they are so cute, I think.

Quiviut No, I have had long conversations with Caryll. Nancy Bender, who used to raise the musk ox on the farm next to Caryll`s, sold off her herd so that she could be with her teenage sons more; Caryll purchased the remaining stock of yarn. Caryll now imports fiber/yarn from Alaska, as it`s no longer raised on the farm next door.

Elann First with Photo Scoop! We US citizens will probably forever need some pronunciation directions, but that is our problem for not being more international.

Congrats!

HTT Carloway Question for Elann Is this product sheepy-grown and carded/spun in Scotland? In short, in buying this product, would we be supporting local Scottish industry?

Benne Benne:

It is very sad that you are losing your friend and "mom." As it seems that she is not going to get better, I can only hope that her passing is painless and that you can feel good that you honored your friendship with her to the end. You have been such a good friend to her.

Given the pain that I felt with the loss of my non-human companions, I can only imagine the kind of pain you are feeling with the imminent loss of your good friend. My best to you in this tough time.

Knit lots while you meditate on the wonders of your good friend. We are all here for you.
