What is fingering weight carry along yarn Hi Claire,

This is on a free pattern that I got from Elann. If you go to Bargin Finder and scroll to Filature Di Crosa - Amico, there is a free pattern on there. I think it is a filament yarn.

Term "gassed" means? I looked on a couple of websites and found this:
After being singed and mercerized, the gassed-mercerized cotton sewing thread is tight and fine, even and clean and soft. Soft cotton yarn with very nice sheen. Cable-structured, very crisp stitch definition.

Seems to be a finishing process.

Winding those lovely skeins To my fellow knitters I have a question. Does anyone have tips for winding skeins into balls? I suppose I really should break down and buy a yarn winder, but so far my 2 boys are somewhat willing to help me. They have told me that it is truly a painful experience. We actually end up falling out with each other about half way through, but by the end we are laughing (generally me, I get sadistic pleasure in watching the painful expressions. It is truly as bonding time for us !!

Seriously though, any tips would be appreciated.
