Vine Lace Pattern - 4 rows only! - Help
|
Vine lace has the same number of stitches each row. It is really the same 2 `lace` rows with a stitch shift (knit 1 at the begining of a row and knit 2 at the begining next time). When I do it I`ve found I`d occasionally forget to do a yarn over or would knit 2 together when I shouldn`t have.
The advice for stitch markers to check pattern repeats is a good way to go. Set them up at repeat intervals and count as you go along. That way you never have to count more than say 20 and you can immediately go back.
Hang in there, it will get easier.

Ball Winder, Schmall Winder

I`ve done that. There are a few tricks to getting the whole thing to work smoothly. Even if it takes a bit of effort, overall winding is much fasters. Happy untangling

Jewel FX and HW from Shui Kuen! Lovely!!
|
I like the combo. The caption is tricky, one could read it as HW bag as opposed to HW bag wool :)

Hey-what about that bag from IWK---the big Mary Poppins one?
|
I found the WB to be oddly slow to felt, given that it was unspun. HW felted much faster as did lambs pride. I wouldn`t want to mix it with either of those. Any mix should be texted first to check felting rates.
As much as I like that bag, I`d never want it. Too heavy empty, let alone with anything in it.

Movin on up

I don`t have moth experience, but I do have flea experience. Before they had the pet drops, fleas were a real problem here in the warm south (they never die since it doesn`t freeze)
I think mothballs, freezer or dry cleaning would be the way to go for treasures not obviously infested. Don`t want to risk an egg or something that could come back to haunt you.
Can they hide in the carpets like fleas do? If so, may want to do the really horrible thing and use a bug bomb. They are a pain in the neck to get ready for a clean up afterwards. But they do work at getting the bugs that could be otherwised missed.

Ok-so about that new VK and samples-
|
I decided to spend my birthday money on yarn instead of samples, so my subscription is over. Now you guys have me rethinking my choice :) Wonder if the VK is at the stores yet? I buy it at the yarn shop rather than subscription.

Knitted edging question
|
Since we are edging back into the 100s, I`m working on the mohair Albatross Afghan ( my own design, started a year ago with lots of no-work when I`d get to a part I couldn`t figure out.)
I`ve got a good start on the outer lace edging that is knitted perpendicular and you `bind off` the main afghan by knitting it into the lace.
My question is what to do about the corners? Instinct tells me I`ll need more `fabric` to go around the corner and lay flat. Do I simply knit more rows of the lace part with out doing the K2tog to attach it? Sorta like doing short rows.
I could knit and see and frog, but I don`t think I could stand many more do-overs on this project.
Thanks in advance for your help

Off topic-$$$$ Christmas gifts, etc.

After you sent me one, I`ve used the site to send a few of the cards. It is a great site. nice to know about the coupons. I was tempted by several puzzles on the site. I may have to order the catalog.

Knitted edging question
|
Thanks for the suggestions. I had looked in Best of Knitters not seeing what I wanted. But looked again with fresh eyes and found some good info. Made it around the first corner and I think it will work out just fine.

I really like it. Not boring at all. Finish and throw in the mail :) If you really can`t stand it, how about an embroidered (sp?) flower or two.

Ruffled scarves - Has any one made one?
|
I came across some Noro in the 1/2 price bin at LYS. Was thinking about a ruffled scarf. There seems to be 2 methods: 1) Cast on 100 or so stitches and double the stitch count every other row. 2) cast on 22 or so and knit short rows back and forth (scarf style pattern)
Has anyone made one and do you have a favorite method?
