Branching out Baby Silk- I hope it is not the friend that shrank the alpaca socks. Very nice scarf, nice to know the pattern is easy to work with.

APB on Sonata Print! I have some of the white red and purple if that will helo.
As for the heat, I don`t mind the 115 afternoon heat index, it the 80 in the morning that rags me out. We need to put our collective wills together so this hurricane will come west to uninhabited Texas coast brining us rain and sparing the population centers.

WOW!!! Did the Optik Monsoon go fast or what!!!!??? By my clock both colors were gone in 6 minutes. I wonder if it is a record. Folks on slower dial ups didn`t stand a chance.

I need some advice I have a collapsable metal one. Looks like the picture of the one carried by elann. It is easy to store and easy to use. However, it doesn`t stay clamped very well. The clamping surface is too small, thus it is very tipsy. One of these days I`m going to re-engineer it.

Incredible shawl - spotted in Albuquerque I`ve been wanting to post but DH has been programming in the evenings, tying up the machine. I`m sneaking a quick post from work at lunch

While walking through the ABQ airport a couple weeks ago I spotted the most incredible shawl. It was crochet lace, black with lime and lilac wavy stripes, hanging off the bottom were 5-petal flowers done in magenta with lime centers. It was really stunning. I wanted to speak to the lady wearing it. However she was at an ATM and I was reluctant to approach her before she finished. DH was already 1/2 block ahead of me and charging ahead. So, I moved on. But I can`t forget the shawl.

Has anyone seen such an item? What is a good source for fancy crochet patterns? I don`t have much crochet experience, but I`d learn quick if I could make this shawl.

Homebuying help needed ASAP Emily,
We faced a similar situation when we moved to San Antonio from Germany 7 years ago. We had a hard time finding a rental due to a large dog. We had to buy a house within 5 months due to taxes. We didn`t really know the area and we had unsure jobs. The house we found was about $15k more than we were hoping to spend, and at the very very upper limit of what we could live with. The sellers wouldn`t budge on the price. It was one of the more expensive homes on the block. It was more than the comparable average value for the neighborhood, and in the 95th percentile of homes in the category city wide. On the other hand, it was definitely an above average house. It was in great shape and we really liked it.

As discussed by Alice, when we calculated the cost of moving twice in 6 mo (deposits, moving vans, missed work ...) and included the factor that we were likely to get raises over the next few years making the mortgage less of a burden. We opted to buy the house.

It was a great decision. We avoided lots of hassle and got a great house that we love living in and which has continued to appreciate.

I`d say if you like the house, if you smile when you see it, if you feel good when you walk around it, buy it. The approx 3% difference in price will be quickly forgotten.

If you are settling on the house to avoid an apartment. If you walk around and see only the things that need changing or fixing. Skip it, the money will haunt you.

Homebuying help needed ASAP I`d also like to add here in Texas they have something called a Buyers agent. That is a realtor that works for you, the buyer, not the seller. Although paid for by the seller, they have to represent the buyer.

Something to check into.

Katia Pisco... Before it`s all gone I second McChicks praises. I`ve done 2 quick tops with it and really like the results. Machine wash, dryer till damp, then lay flat.
Soft without being floppy

Yarn in the mail....what`s your knitting like this week? I`m on the lower half of a tank top for the nanny out of Noro ribbon. I was worried about running out, but don`t think I will now that I`m well into it.
Also working on the cable vest I promised dad 2 years ago. Doing a pattern I saw on Jean`s blog. First multi-cable in a few years. I`m relieved that I`m memorizing the stitches pretty quickly.
I think I`ll tackle the albatros afghan again this week.
