Poll - How do you like your LYS?
|
Memorable stores I`ve visited on vacation have all been arranged by color. It is a great way to pick up a couple skeins for a vacation scarf, but maybe not good for everyday.
The store in Austin is grouped mostly by manufacture but kinda by weight and there store here in San Antonio is grouped mostly by wieght with novelty pulled aside - but not strictly. The big difference is in lighting. Both stores carry much of the same stuff, but one would never guess because SA is so poorly lit. Austin has a much better `feel` to it upon walking in. But I find their staff less knowlegable and less helpful. So for everyday shopping I like SA better.

glad to hear you made it. Watch out for the heat! Give the LYS a couple of tries. I didn`t like mine the first visit or two, but it grows on ya.

Babysitting

Libby, here in San Antonio I pay $7 an hour to a teenager in the evening when there is mostly sleeping. Daytime/active rates are $10.
Melanie, not sure about your location, but here a couple hospitals and public agencies offer respite care 1 weekend a month for special-needs kids so their parents can get out. Our daughter is low-vision and we found a parents night out program at a church that was willing to work with us.

I don`t subscribe to any of the knitting mags so I can pick and choose the issues. With so many wonderful fresh patterns free on the web, I`m finding the magazines less and less useful.

Oh, come on, you can do it :) I haven`t seen the pattern, but based on the picture, it won`t be hard to up-size. Follow the directions for basic re-sizing on the FAQ page. The only difference is you`ll need to add stitches in a multiple that matches the lace.
For example If the lace pattern is a multiple of 10, the guage is 5 stitches per inch, the pattern calls for casting on 100 stitches (20 inches) but you need 21.5 inches or 107 stitches. Well, you`ll cast on 110 stitches so you get the full lace repeat.
