Evelyn-VERY NICE!!!

Loevely bags. I get a kick out of felting, don`t you. I`ve noticed the Noro can take a really long time to felt. I`ve looked at the new washers but have been worried about there usefulness in felting.

It was worth a shot. I like the shell idea if the colors coordinate.

I had hoped it would last till the end of the month. No way, now that the word is out :) I`ll just have to hope Ann can bring it back next summer.

Are you a loose woman?
|
You are definitely not alone. I ususally go down 2 needles sizes from the label and if it is cotton, often 3 sizes down. Today I knit my sample of the silk city perle on a size 2 and it looked about right. Can`t imagine what a floppy fabric a size 5 would generate for me. Bets knits even more loosely than I do. She goes down several needle sizes and avoids certain yarns. I say don`t worry about it. Enjoy being a loose woman.

Need an experts advice

Tweaking and customizing patterns is really fun.
Cables are nice to add, but since they have such a different gauge than stockinette, have you thought about a texture pattern that would be interesting, but may have a closer guage to the back? Embossed diamonds, or ribs, or little flowers, or whatever.
Something else to consider is cables result in a heavier fabric than stockinette. the front may not drape the same as the back. Could result in pulling or sliding when wearing.
Maybe consider something like the Oat Couture Port Orford Pullover with the decorative stitches on the top.

Most Idiotic Converstion With a LYS Proprietor...
|
I was in that very store 2 summers ago. Back then, they didn`t even have a clerk! I wanted to buy some yarn but couldn`t find anyone to take my money. I was surprised by the lack of wool shops and knitted articles. I didn`t do much knitting in public as it rained 3 out of 4 days and I was chasing an 18mo daughter. That said, I did find the people in Glasgow very welcoming (more so than Edinburgh) and very much enjoyed our visit there.

Handpaint Country - looking for a book review
|
I have it. I found it for half price at a used store. It has very nice pictures and would be what I call a coffee table book. Interesting interviews with the yarn people. Some of the most interesting works were shown as examples with no patterns. There are a couple projects in there on my "I should try this someday" list. Though nothing I couldn`t live without. The thing that drove me nuts about the book was the lack of credit for the incredible model. Now I know, I`m supposed to be looking at the knitting, not the model. However, everything about the book got a credit, down to the typeface, except the model. AUGH!!!

How do you finish off loose ends when working with cotton?
|
I`m a knot tying fool when it comes to cotton. Seems like the only way to go. Benne, of course you want Jasper for the Perle, thats the color I picked :) Good thing I`m on a yarn diet and can`t buy it all before you do.

A girl goes away for a week......
|
and there is stuff to-die-for posted on the web. What busy beavers. Beautiful tanks, lace, crochet, purses, WOW it is all wonderful.
I had company training. I took enought yarn for a scarf and a tank, thinking I`d have time in the hotel in the evenings. Silly me. Turns out we were in session from 7am to 9pm daily, with homework on top of that. Class time would have been perfect for knitting, but I know the others would not have thought so. So I had a week of no knitting.
I did learn why I like to knit on conference calls. People speak at 120 words per minute, listen at 450 wpm and process information at 700wpm. So there is lots of extra brain capacity just calling out for a garter stitch scarf to occupy the time. lol

took a deep breath and .....
|
started working on the albatross afghan. Cast on the 8 stitches for the knitted border and did 3 repeats. Decided it looked funny, ripped it and started over with the lace the other direction. Did 3 repeats. Knew then I was right the first time and frogged again. Now I know I can do it and I`m sure to have it done in no time (she said when starting this @#$%!!!! thing over 1 year ago).
Also cast on for the top down T for the nanny. Have had the yarn for over a year. Need to try top down cuz I have a high likelihood of running out of yarn. I`m using the BW Top down book for a sleeveless shell, deep scooped neck to cut yarn requirements.
Feels good to have some tough ones started.
