what do you do with your knittable samples?
|
I`m saving mine (after knitting them) to do a Sally Melville type sweater from her Book Styles. It is all about using scraps of color together with a main color to make cool things.

Shrugs
|
How are the worn? I always see them pictured over a dress. Can they be worn with a skirt and top? I`m specifically interested in the Shrug Me Tender by Just one More Row. However, I want to make something that can be worn with more than one dress.

Shrugs

Let`s both go for it. I`m starting tonight. I have some 8 yr old Colinette, discontinued type and color (Apollo - wool, cotton, rayon, silk mix; pink/green). Only 500 meters but will need to use a 13 rather than the 11 the pattern calls for. So I`m going to wing it as ususal. Follow the directions for the smallest size and hope it fits.

frogging
|
Frogging is when one unravels large parts of a sweater, or all of it. Rip it, Rip it, Rip it (clear as mud?)
Tink it knit backward - that is undo a row or two, one stitch at a time.

Roll call-what`s on the needles?
|
Working on the shrug, did the right front last night, it is blocking as I type, may need to go up a needle size to get good drape. Have a couple cotton scarves underway as gifts and the still-not-finished-becoming-an-albatross afghan for a friend. I think this evening will be spent avoiding the afghan and swatching Esprit for the Knitty Blaze sweater.

Roll Call: Who as Irish Blood in their veins?
|
From my fathers side. Don`t know that side of the family well, they were staunch Irish Catholics so when Granddad went and married an non-Irish, non-catholic, his family disowned them, and her`s disowned her for marrying an Irish Catholic. So I knew my Granddad and Grandma, but no one else from their extended families.
The closest thing to green in the knitting relm is blue/green Outback mohair afghan. I`ll try a post by Thursday.

(YFWD) twice?
|
YFWD is the Brit (I think) term for yarn over. The pattern is having you yarn over twice in order to add 2 stitches. The K2tog and sl1k1psso on each side keep the stitch count constant.

(YFWD) twice?

See post below. yfwd is a term which means the same as yarn over. You have a double yarn over in the middle of 2 decreases to keep the stitch count. On the next row, treat each yarn over as a separate stitch.

Scullyknits - are we shrugging?
|
Let`s shrug!!! Your rust cotton sounds very nice. The only thing I would worry about is whether the DK cotton would be `heavy` enough to give you good drape. I`ve finished the right front and am working on the left front. I`m using a thick/thin; wool/cotton/rayon/silk mix and size 13 needles. The 11s were too tight for the yarn and this pattern. I`m knitting the smallest size and counting on the 13 needles to come out large enough. When I finished the first part, it was kinda crumpled looking and I was worried it wouldn`t hang straight and even. However, it looks fine after blocking. I may need to loose 10 pounds to wear it, but that would make my doctor very happy (lol).
The pattern is really fun and fast. It is a good way to use handpaint since one builds triangles and squares making it easy to balance the varying skeins of the handpaint.

Diets.... are you on a limited diet?
|
Big time yarn diet. Was trying not to buy anything until June. I even resisted the great fuzzy stuff this week. I had it in my cart twice but did push the pay button. I`m going to cave today and get some Sonata and a few (more) colors of HW for felting projects.
