felting 2 colors
|
I use color grabbers in the wash while felting - helps with bleeding. Using other yarns I noticed quite a bit of fiber transfer from black to purple which blurred the color a bit.

A Quick Poll...
|
I thought I was, until 3 wrapped boxes appeared under the tree. My DH is EXCELLENT at picking gifts, so I know they`ll be great even it they aren`t elann certs.
I have insisted that the people who buy knitted stuff from me pay only in elann certificates. That way, yarn pays for more yarn.

Has anyone made the Ombretta pullover?
|
I haven`t made the sweater, but in looking at the chart, I would disagree with your reading. I think the the P3 and P5 should be done as written. That is, P3 or 5 when you come to them in the row, regardless of RS or WS. And the Make 3 should be done as written K1, P1, K1. I say this only because it wasn`t specified otherwise.
I also think it probably doesn`t matter too much, and I`d try a swatch both ways and see what looks best.

Thanks Everyone! Not sure what happend to the photo, I`ll have to try again. It was clear on my end. I`ll try reposting. It is vine lace in a periwinkle blue cotton/alpaca blend. Drapey and soft.

felted slippers question
|
Hi everyone. I`ve tried making both the felted booties and the clogs from the Fiber Trends patterns. I`m having trouble with size. I did a mans large in 3ply white buffalo and after felting, it could fit a large troll. I tried a felted bootie in HW, the first one was too large, had to go down 2 sizes from the pattern recomendation to get the proper size for DD. I really like the shape of the clog, and have tons of Buffalo to use, but I`m scared to start due to the size issues. Any suggestions?

felted slippers question
|
Oops, I wasn`t clear, they were TOOO BIG :) I mean way, way, way too big. I felted till the cows came home, but they weren`t going to get any smaller. Two different yarns, WB and HW, 2 different patterns by the same company and the same result. TOO Big. Now, I knit loosely, but I didn`t think that would matter since the object was to be felted.

Official Wooly Knits Weather

I miss snow. Growing up in Albuquerque, town didn`t always get it, but one could see it on the mountains. Here in San Antonio the cold is a pain, as I`m always growing tropicals and either have to wrap them, or let them die.

felted slippers question
|
I think they are felting just fine, unless it is an infinite process and they will keep getting smaller and smaller. In which case I should throw them in again. Rather I was wondering if loose knitting affects the final size. In other words, the pattern includes a range of sizes, and a recommended needle. If I follow the instructions, cast on 100 stitches on a size 13....... then felt (shrinkage more than 50 percent) Instead of the final product fitting a womens size 8, it fits a womens size 10. The fabric is dense, stiff (in a good way), with no stitch definition, looking like the examples in the LYS, but the final product is too large. If I were making a sweater with HW, I`d use a 5 or 6 needle (instead of 7) to get the label guage. Does the same apply to felting projects?

need simple pattern for filatura di crosa supersoft yarn
|
My standard for an uneven, bulky yarn is a drop garter stitch. Cast on 12-16 stitches, (depending on width wanted) R1 knit R2 knit R3 knit, wrapping the yarn twice around the needle R4 knit, dropping the extra wraps. Repeat till almost long enough, then knit 1 more row and bind off loosely.

Thanks to everyone for the great ideas. I think I`ll throw those pesky slippers in the washer one more time.
