I`m dying to get my newsletter and samples!
|
I`m the same, and I don`t even get the knitable kind. Mine always come on Thursday unless I`m really anxious and have disturbed my karma, then they come on Friday, just to keep me humble.

Jacket for the outback?
|
Oh you are soo very right. Give me a shawl collar every time. I want the jacket in the pink/orange mohair!!!!. Not that I`d ever make it living here in south Texas, nor wear it unless I`ve lost either weight or my mind.

knitting is many things to me, sexy isn`t one of them. I applaud the knitty choice of patterns, but can`t see making any of them. Maybe the hush hush, using Esprit instead of their cotton so it would hold it`s shape better.

Knitting on the Telly!!
|
"...otherwise what in the world woild I do with all this yarn?"
Why send it to me of course! We always buy the same thing.
I don`t have cable, but a knitting show makes it a bit more tempting. Glad to hear they aren`t that great, paying for cable would wipe out my yarn budget.

A frustration only you all would understand
|
I had a similar experience in Wales last summer. We were driving from London to Glasgow by way of the Colinette yarn factory in Wales. (OK we had a friend in Cardif but he was an excuse to get me close to the yarn.) I sent email verifying location, times and the existance of a retail shop. Arrived at 1:30 on a Friday only to learn that they close at 1 on Fridays, instead of the ususal 4. I sat in the park across from the shop and had a quick cry, knowing I was not likely to again be in the middle of Wales anytime soon.
There is a really great castle south of Stuttgart, one that was actually used as a castle and not just for show like Neuschwanstein. It is called Hohenzollern, picture at http://www.roadstoruins.com/index.html

Your first project:
|
My very first project was never finished, a `design your own` sweater project from my knitting class. I didn`t like the yarn so I never finished it. But it made me very brave about not following patterns. The first finished project was a summer tank out of cotton - gave to my sister. When I went to the LYS for help picking up stitches to finish the neck, I learned I`d made all the purl stitches `wrong` so they twisted. Since I`d done them all twisted, they looked like part of the pattern. Had to learn a new way to purl.

Oh where oh where are my knitting magazines?
|
I don`t subscribe so that I have an excuse to go to the LSY at least every other month. Also, I can pay for the book only if I like more than 1 pattern.

Should we all get elann tattoos?
|
I`ve always wanted a little tatoo around my ankle bone. First when I turned 21, then when I hit 30, then 40. But I`m a pain weanie so I`ve never gone. One of these days I`ll get the courage.
We could have a less painful and more universal symbol and have it as a bumper sticker, or lapel pin. The national caver society has a sticker that doesn`t actually say cave on it anywhere but is instantly recognizable to other cavers. Knitters (not just the lucky few that shop and chat here) could adopt something. Maybe a graphic of a stockinette stitch (there is an example in a sweater pattern at the schoolhouse press site). The stitch would be recognized by those in the know.

Baby Boucle Mohair Yarn
|
I knitted a very large shawl in a knit/purl check pattern and hated every stitch. The yarn was a beautiful handpaint and the little loops in the mohair gave it wonderful texture when knitted. But the little loops were the perfect size to catch my needle, making for very slow going. In hindsight, I`d work the loopy mohiar yarn with a thin smooth wool carrier on larger needles so my tips wouldn`t get caught.

Fiber Trends felted clogs and White Buffalo Question
|
Good morning. I thought we`d discussed this but I can`t find it after searching the archives. The pattern calls for using 2 strands of worsted. I have some 6 ply WB. How many strands of WB would compare to 2 worsted.

Outback for shawl
|
The pattern calls for yarn at 20+ stitches per 4 inch and outback mohair is around 14. So the Outback would not be a simple substitution. I think it could be done if you were willing to do a little math to adjust the pattern. The lace looks like it is simple enough to look good on large needles. One would end up greatly decreasing the number of repeats that the pattern called for to get the same 72in across. So it would knit up very quickly. If I had to guess, I would think 2 skeins of the Outback would be plenty. The shawl featured with the Outback is very large and would be only slightly smaller than pictured using 2 skeins. I currently making an afghan out of the Outback and used a simple lace. Were it a shawl, I think I would use size 11 or 13 needles for a lacier effect.

Oh, Christmas is peeking at us...what`s on the list?
|
felted booties 1 done, 1 on the needles, 2 pairs to go; 2 felted hats, have the yarn, need to start knitting; couple of easy garter scarves, and the biggie, must get done is a vest for DD. Have the yarn, don`t like any patterns, have written my own, didn`t like the feel of the first swatch, will try again on smaller needles. If I get all that done, I`ll do a DNA scarf for a good friend that is a science nerd.

Peruvian Uros Felted Bag - Soon posted
|
Good Evening. I`ve sent in pictures for a small bag I recently knitted and felted. It needs a button, still looking for one I like.
Hopefully, elann has the weekend off and the pictures won`t be posted till Monday. I`m traveling tomarrow for the week so I`ll share the pattern now.
The bag used 2 skeins of Uros, I used the cedar sage and dusty teal. The color pattern is from Barbara Walkers 3rd book, Charted Knitting Patterns. It had a 15 stich repeat so it fit perfectly. Any mosaic pattern can be used, modifying (bag or pattern) as necessary.
Using #8 16-in circular needles and dark color, cast on 30 stitches. Knit in garter stitch till there are 15 ridges. Pick-up 15 stitches on the side, 30 stitches , then 15 again. Join, mark begining, and knit in rounds for an inch or so (didn`t keep good notes here). Start color pattern using lighter color for contrast, 1 repeat on the short sides and 2 repeats on the long. When pattern rows are complete, knit 2 rows light color and repeat pattern, reversing colors. (this part will make more sense when you see the bag) End with an inch or so of the light color.
Open top, bind off all around,
Flap top: at marker knit 30, then bind off remaining stitches. Knit back and forth, decreasing 1 stitch at each side until 2 stitches remain, knit together.
The cord is a 3 stitch I cord, both yarns together on number 10 DP needles. I made the cord till I ran out of yarn.
Felt and block till dry.
The Uros was a bit more fuzzy than I wanted, so I used a clothes shaver after felting to give it a bit of a haircut. I know that use of a shaver can be hard on knits, but I liked the cleaner look. I shaved very little.
It was fast knitting and using only 2 skeins, very affordable.

what did i do wrong with buffalo unspun?
|
I just finished a slipper (to be felted). I used the 6-ply and separated it into 3 as I knitted. (Knit 3 strands and roll the other 3 into a ball at the same time). I didn`t have trouble with tearing, unless I yanked. Since I was separating at the same time, I unwound a couple yards gently, knitted and balled, then unwound some more. Good luck with the next round.

Alice, thank you so much!

I join the others in thanking you for taking the time to post the instructions. I`d been trying to figure out how to do one of these in the round and couldn`t get my mind around it. I`m looking forward to trying it. Christina
