Shawl opinions, please-
|
OOh, I love this question! I always suggest, as a perfect starter shawl, the Shapely Shawlette by Judy Pascale. It`s probably too simple for you folks, so how about the Shoalwater Shawl by Fiber Trends? It is still simple, has all garter stitch, (no purl on the wrong side), and the pattern allows for different yarn weights. It is a good project to start working off of charts, too. Trish...great felted bags!

Hey, thanks Billie! The blog is still rustic, but I am learning. I`d like to link other Elannite blogs to it, but I can`t figure out how, yet! Bear with me!

YES - count me in! This sounds like so much fun. I still want to include cookies, though! Well, maybe I can just eat them while I am working on my projects!

Yarn Harlot
|
Kim, my girlfriend and I just got back from seeing the Yarn Harlot in Ann Arbor (ok, we didn`t come straight home). She`s a hoot! I`m glad you took pictures. There were over 200 people at the main library, and LONG lines for the book signing.

How many yards are needed for a Flower Basket shawl?
|
Yikes! I overdid it again. I just got 14 balls of 2 colors. I`m planning on finally getting to the Flower Basket Shawl; looks like I should have enough, hmm? Trish mymerinomantra.typepad.com

Amy, I knit up my sample of Lang Viva from elann -- believe me, it is NOT stretchy--- like knitting with bandaging gauze -- But I DO love that pattern, too.

Donna, I received a white mini-sample -- imagine the look and feel of knitting with a ribbon of (bandaging) gauze -- my white sample was not shiny, not stretchy, and I personally didn`t perceive any non-natural fiber characteristics. Perhaps the polyester component gives strength to the thin fibers making up the gauze. Regards, Trish E.

ELANN LACE SHELL WITH RAGLAN CAP SLEEVES
|
I have seen this knit up. I am not sure which yarn this woman chose, but the top was just lovely. She changed the sleeves, somewhat, but she didn`t mention anything about the pattern being difficult or vague. We were too busy admiring the top!

Are there errors in Flower Basket Shawl pattern?
|
Hi Donna -
Can I put my two cents in? I have some notes on the Flower Basket Shawl. This one gal did a lot of homework on it - follow her link: http://knitting-interrupted.com/flower-basket-shawl-notes/ Hope it helps you!

Has Anyone Used Austermann Soft Wool ?
|
I know it is described as being soft, and it is not 100% wool, but I wondered if it shrinks or felts. Any ideas? It`s not like I need another project, but....

Katrina & what you plan to make?
|
I, too, resisted on the Katrina, but I keep thinking I would like to make another top like this: http://www.awesomeewe.com/34101.htm It`s a great pattern, and the Katrina is like the KOS which it calls for; somebody stop me - I`m talking myself into this!

What is your favorite yarn to knit with?
|
So many yarns, so little time....... Actually, the yarn I choose has to be pleasurable to all of my senses. I LOVE merino (what a surprise!), silk, and cashmere. I don`t love to knit with linen and cotton, although I love to wear them.

Top three projects on needles -- and which one today??
|
I have to finish my Tina Top with Rowan Calmer, then work on my Victoria Cardigan with Gedifra Korfu, and then finish my cashmere Highland Triangle Shawl, but not necessarily in that order! Oh yes, and begin my Elann alpaca shawl(s)!
