Drastic Measures Needed!!
|
While our household budget is in need of serious help due to my YAS, I found something earlier today that gives *some* perspective. The Knitting Wench blog (http://craftywench.typepad.com/knittingwench/) has a WIMs page, called Have Yarn, Will Knit (click on link in the left-hand column). She has 35, count `em, *35* projects for which she has yarn, only 2 or 3 of which came from Elann. Lots of Rowan! I`m not sure I could put together anything like 35 WIMs and their yarn out of all the yarn I have. LOL! Very pretty WIMs, though!! It`s a very different way to organize a stash, but it has its points.

Virtual Greeting Cards for Knitters
|
Lion Brand has a neat new feature. You can send virtual greeting cards with pictures of knitters! There`s one large set with knitters from real paintings - or at least it looks like real paintings! Then there are a few cute ones with lion`s faces. I haven`t tried to send a card, but what a neat Mother`s Day card these would be. Here`s the link http://www.lionbrand.com/cards/Knitting.html

Thanks for the suggestions and the support. I LOVE the "Elanngelist"!! I do need to figure out a budget for yarn purchases. I`m retired, so there`s no paycheck, but I do remember doing something like your suggestion of building up a fund for things I wanted, back when I worked. This yarn withdrawal will be tough, but I know I can count on all you ladies.

All my new stuff

Glad you are pleased with your first Elann purchase. The yarns here are such excellent quality and the prices just cannot be beat. I`ll be looking forward to seeing your first machine-knit projects.

Thanks to you, Benne, and to Teresa, too! Since I`ve already achieved SABLE status - (Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy), I have enough yarns to knit for a long, long time! I`m thinking that over the next couple of weeks, I`m going to rearrange my stash, putting together yarns with the ideas or patterns that I bought the yarn for. That should give me a better idea of what fun projects are just waiting for me to start them. Conveniently, for putting the yarns and patterns in, I have all these nice plastic bags that Elann sends in those nice white boxes!! LOL. This project will probably also help me find all those needles that I`d swear I have, but can`t find!!
You Elannites are just great!! Thanks again.

Hoarding

The empties would be easier to hide under the bed or in the back of the closet if you collapse them. The ones I keep I put behind the door (nearly always standing open) in the room where my stash is.
I didn`t see Oprah, but I do come from a long line of packrats. It is tough to be a real packrat here in Burbank, where there are no basements and very small attics.

Happy Mother`s Day to All
|
I`ll have my mom`s gift shawl done tonight so I can give it to her on Sunday. And I`m sure Midnight and Shadow will provide a few purrs for their "mom", even more if I give them tuna! (It`s hard for them to get a suitable greeting card. *grin*)
I hope your families will treat you to a nice breakfast in bed, a lunch or dinner out, or whatever will put a smile on your faces.

BTW. I have no idea what happened to my post; some computer gremlins, perhaps. I MEANT to say "It`s a terrific warm-weather look."
Dratted computers, anyway! I took the Adobe icon out of my pop-up menu and it seemed like I couldn`t open any of my pdf files. So I put it back and everything works. *sigh*

Sorry if I scared you!

Patricia, I apologize for the flippant response. I didn`t understand that your DH has been away for a long time. I can only plead the inadvertent ignorance of a newbie to the chat center. Has he been in the Middle East?

Roll call question--Gardeners, what`s your favorite rose???
|
David Austins - Abraham Darby, a pink/peach/yellow, with a glorious fruity scent.
Floribundas - French Lace, a white with a faint bit of pink at the center; they have the most beautiful just-opened look and a lovely light fragrance.

Roll call question-if the yarn pixies came by....
|
Purples, greens, blues - those are my `signature` colors, so the pink/coral/pale green for my Clapotis was a big change, but I love how it turned out.
A couple of weeks ago I went to a new LYS for a sale, and they were doing custom-dye work. There was a skein laid out to dry that was in the vivid colors of a New England fall - golds, russets, darkish reds, etc. It was fabulous!

I have thought about getting a Mutabilis, since the color change is so striking. Is there much of a scent?
If anyone wants a great deep pink, try a First Prize. Nice scent and flowers can be 5in across. Gold Medal is a wonderful deep yellow that goes nearly white as it ages; this is a grandiflora, like Mr Lincoln.

What is Ogee lace? I gather from your post that it is a complex pattern, I just hadn`t seen the term before.

28 rows!? Oy! Thanks to MaryTess on the About.com forum, I have BW Treasuries 1,2 and 3. Since I`m still having a bit of trouble sometimes with 10-row repeats, I`ll put Ogee lace down toward the bottom of my WIMs list. Thanks for the info.

Up and at `em, girl! That green just *has* to be for you; it will look fabulous with your hair!! And you can knit a wee shamrock with the leftover bits - for a lucky charm!
