Heidi C. Cotton Sweaters Heidi,

What fun! Two gorgeous children in all those fabulous sweaters. What really impresses me is that you found the time to make those intricate sweaters while caring for the two little guys, and I don`t see any peanut butter and jelly anywhere in your pics.LOL

sample skein subscription The sample skein subscription is great, I like to know what the yarn is like before I order it and you get to see the true colors. Let`s face it, touch is very important to knitters and as Scullyknits advised in a previous post, you can check out the softness of the yarn by wearing it under your collar. You can knit up a swatch and if you like it then wait with much anticipation for it to list. I haven`t seen this service offered anywhere else. Elann has definitely got it going on! Go for it!

Yarn and the joys of having it!! Bets, I am in shock...in a LYS and you only spent $30 AND your DH went with you. I don`t think I want my DH to accompany me, I`m sure he would follow me around like your DH, cramping my style, plus he would be shocked at the cost of yarn-a little too much of an eye opener for him. Besides that I`d proably have to cuff him to get him in a yarn shop. I really don`t want anyone to go with me, I get in a zone and I don`t want any distractions- after all, I`m on an important mission.LOL Yesterday I told DH about some of the yarn stash hiding places and he laughed and immediately told me he had better not come home and find our motorcycle trailer full of yarn. You know, I hadn`t even thought of that one. There`s lots of space left even with the bike in there and it`s very clean with shelves. He may be sorry he said that! Patricia, speaking of cuffs, has your DH been asked to leave the lingerie department by security yet? LOL You may need hiding places for your stash to keep your husband out of your special yarn, man, that`s wild! I do think he`s hooked (so to speak). My DH did braid some yarn for me for ties for a vest recently. He used a plaiting
technique used on horses manes and tails. What a multi-talented guy!

Yarn and the joys of having it!! Sorry you had a bad experience with an unscrupulous talent agent, Bets, there are a lot of them out there. My experience is that an aspiring actress needs head shots but we do not cast from the web, we use live auditions for parts and if someone gets the part the agent gets 10% of the SAG/AFTRA wages. Being an extra involves a lot of waiting and long hours for the pay. If DD wants to break into acting being a PAID extra is a good place to start but she`d better take her knitting with her. My husband and I started a film production company 1n 1974, he shoots and directs and I produce (at this point; in the beginning we both did everything.) We used to travel constantly and I was on the road all over the US and beyond but I have tried to cut down on the travel. I have an autoimmune disorder similiar to lupus and the fatigue gets to me a whole lot sooner than it did back when I was the other side of forty. OK, I have no secrets here, fifty. LOL We have shot in Texas a lot but not recently. Years ago, we shot at Texas Stadium with Danny White and he TACKLED me on the field. That had to be the first tackle he ever made. I coulda taken him down if I`d known it was coming.LOL I would MOST definitely let you know if I get down there for a shoot, I usually get a few free hours on location and I would FIND you and Christine - it makes me smile to think about the three of us hitting a yarn shop. They wouldn`t know what hit them! You know Patricia, if your husband`s interest in knitting continues, he may decide he likes yarn better than ties, although there is something about a sharp-dressed man (credits to ZZ TOP) you can have the best of both worlds. He looks great AND he knits - The tie thing proves that men enjoy fine fabrics and color and design so it just follows he`ll really love the best yarns. Let us know how this knitting thing goes with him. It`s like watching a drama unfold. The day he goes to a yarn shop alone or suggests a trip to buy yarn for HIS projects will be the day you have to get a safe for YOUR yarn.LOL

Zimmerman books Elann carries three of EZ`s books. If you buy books here you get credits for discounts on future yarn purchases. I love them all but I would start with Knitting Without Tears.

Scullyknits, what pattern did you use? I would like to know what pattern you used for DN`s eyelash sweater. I think my DGD (12) would love to have a fun sweater out of an eyelash with some purples in it. Eyelash knits up so quick it wouldn`t be a huge time investment and she`s the right age to wear something like that (as opposed to her Grammy) LOL Thanks,Benne

Peruvian Uros, Alpace, Highland Wool - all ordered OK, so I went wild, like a woman possessed after knitting up swatches of the Uros, Alpaca and Highland Wool, I ordered all three. The Uros behaved beautifully, didn`t twist or separate and looked and felt fabulous. I have no idea what I will make out of what I ordered but I have decided after viewing some of the yarn mavens works posted here that I will try cables on something. It`s been a few years but I did like making them. The stitches on all of these yarns were just lovely and since I live in a cold weather state (it was 14 degrees here last night)I decided I needed a reward for all those knitted Christmas gifts I made. Yeah, I know I`m rationalizing adding to an already huge stash but it was such a pleasure to use a smooth, soft, well defined yarn after all that eyelash, Colinette, mohair and yes. Cleo. If anyone has ordered these yarns what are you going to make and what patterns do you have in mind? I like the featured pattern with the Uros but I know myself well enough to know that I am not going to embroider anything after knitting it. I want it in the pattern, not added. Just me, lazy maybe or resistant to putting anything over the stitches. BTW, Bets and Scullyknits, my DD went to Philly last weekend with her boyfriend to meet his godfather (this has got to be serious - he`s taking her to meet his out of town family) - and then to Atlantic City to a casino and she wore here Cleo (red) top. Yeay! It passed the I like it and I want to wear it somewhere special test. I`m so excited - Cleo travels!

Scullyknits, what pattern did you use? Gee, that sounds like a lot of work for you. It would be great but if you don`t have time or it`s too much trouble I understand. After all, you could be knitting instead. I really like the fit and look you achieved with your creation, maybe YOU should be a knitting designer. You could write all kinds of patterns in those "interesting" yarns I love that cover a multitude of sins.;}

Zimmerman books Hi Patricia,
Always glad to enable another order placed with Elann, after all, when you order the books, you know you`ll just have to order some yarn to fill up the rest of the box, right? ;}

Peruvian Uros, Alpace, Highland Wool - all ordered Wow, all of you are full of good ideas for all that luscious yarn. I too am very drawn to the cable pattern in the flyer. I ordered the alpaca in cactus and with my dark olive skin I usually don`t wear green. Greens are hard but Aracunia and Peruvian yarns have some gorgeous greens. You should have seen me standing in the natural light at the door trying to hold all those little yarn strands against my skin to see which one to get. I finally decided even if I end up looking like Kermit the Frog, darn it, I like the green and I`m wearing it! I got the Uros in mesa teal, cognac and periwinkle. I`m generally not much of a pastel person, the colors just don`t work on me. Then, I went nuts and ordered the Highland wool in butter and ruby. That should be enough to keep me busy for a while. The hardest part was deciding what colors to get, I want them all! Better hurry mustangjudy!

Happy Chinese New Year !!!!!!! Hey Bets,
Thanks for the heads up. Here I was getting all depressed because I was born in 1952 and you know what that means-I`ll be 52 in March. Horrors! I do like the symmetry of my birthday this year though. Jeez, what am I thinking, I need to play the lottery. Guess what number I`d play? Today is also my anniversay - 29 years. The bad part is that I forgot and about noon my DH called and wished me a happy anniversary. He`s out of town. I can`t tell you how many sweetie points he racked up with that!

Online linie 79 Evita pattern question Okay all you knitting goddesses, I need help. I have the Online Evita in copper to make by the free pattern except I am going to make it MUCH longer than just below the bust ( yeah, like I`ve got a bust). I tried a rib but I don`t like that so I`ll probably do a garter band,not sure yet. I`m not too crazy about the rolled up bottom look. It looks unfinished to me. Any ideas? Next, the last note on the pattern for the sleeves says to slip the stitches on a length of yarn and never says what to do with them after that. Then it says sew sleeve seams but I don`t think I`m supposed to wear it with the sleeve stitches hanging on a piece of yarn. The yarn feels so soft that I think it will be very comfy next to the skin and it should knit up very fast on 13`s. It`s going to be 17 degrees here tonight so I have the urge to work with wool. I feel like a whiner after hearing the temps some of you are putting up with, but I worry about my bluebirds in this cold and I get cranky when I get my electric bill. All right, I`m cranky no matter the weather, I admit it.LOL But I digress, another sure sign of senility, any suggestions on this pattern?

Scullyknits, what pattern did you use? I used angora with very fine handspun mohair I got on ebay for a lace shawl and it is yummy. Since my girls don`t know about handwash I think I`ll have to keep if for myself. If I gave it to them it would be a felted brick the size of a postage stamp.LOL The yarn for the 27th is beautiful but I`ve got some Katia left so I`ll probably pass on it. Although...those colors are too beautiful. I`ve got to agree about those size2-3`s. I`ve made a bunch of baby clothes on them and the tiny sizes were the largest project I could deal with. I stand in awe of those lace shawls that look like cobwebs. I have fullsize bedspreads and tablecloths my grandmother made with the very fine crochet thread and tiny hooks and I see how she endured some very hard times. This woman was up to any challenge. Scullyknits, I looked for the Plush yarn but it was gone from here so I checked Herrschners and it was 25.99 per skein so I passed. I hope Elann gets it again, if not I`ll look for a suitable substitute at a MUCH lower price. This time my procrastination bit me in the you-know-what;}

Online linie 79 Evita pattern question You are a great guesser. Another sign of senility on my part-failure to comprehend what I read. I am blaming it on a vapor lock of the brain. The pattern calls for me to pick up the sleeve stithes on strings and incorporate them into the raglan top. I`m still unsure how I`m going to handle the bottom of the body. I think this yarn is too elegant to just roll up like a piece of unfinished knitting. I like the look with some patterns but not this one. I do like the idea of starting a new trend but since I`m neither young or emaciated - just thin with those broomstick arms that are so attractive in sleeveless tops - I`ll pass this time. There is a poem that is one of my favorites, "When I`m a Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple," and I`m aspiring to all the things she plans to do like spit and in general be an in your face type of old woman. Come to think of if, I may already be there.LOL

Happy Chinese New Year !!!!!!! YOU MEAN I`M A DRAGON!!! How cool is that? I`ve been called a dragon a few times but I don`t think it was in the same context. I am so excited to find out I`m a dragon, I`ve always loved anything to do with dragons and now I know why. I am woefully ignorant of Chinese culture but now I am determined to find out more. My husband was born 1n 1944 but I don`t know what he is. I DO know I`ve called him a rat a time or two over the years but whatever he is, I sure am lucky to have him!

Happy Chinese New Year !!!!!!! Eccentric-I love it and it fits me!Just the other day I told DH that I would be called "eccentric" when I get old - maybe before I get old. My husband is very creative, a great problem-solver and the highest compliment I can pay him is to call him McGyver. So what this boils down to is that you, Bets and Theresa, are hardworking babes who turn out a lot of knitted projects.LOL And we`re all compatible-perfect.

Peruvian Uros, Alpace, Highland Wool - all ordered Hi Jean,
That would be a hoot if we met in our sweaters somewhere. I wonder if that ever happens. There was just something about that color-had to have it. Red is my favorite color and I wear a lot of black so I really like the sound of your sweater. I`ll look around and see if the Stricktrends 16 is out there somewhere. If I find it I`ll post it here. Here`s looking at you kid, in our mirror sweaters.LOL

Online linie 79 Evita pattern question Hi Eileen,
The pattern is in the free patterns section of this site. The yarn is bulky so I don`t want to add any more bulk. I tried crochet but I didn`t like the look. I think I try a couple of rows of garter stitch to start and then launch into the stockinette. I`ve decided to knit it in the round. I hate seaming especially if it adds bulk on the sides. Since I`m already basically disregarding the pattern I think I`ll just keep playing with it until I get the look I want. I`ve never done the picot caston. I have read the directions with interest but alas,I am a creature of habit. I do like the idea of the seed stitch or cables on a finer yarn. I think I`ll try that on some of that yummy wool I ordered this week. Thanks for the ideas.
