working with White Buffalo I separated the 6 ply WB in 2 balls of 3 strands and wound each one with 6 ply for "not your mother`s coat" and knitted a swatch. The gauge was 7 stitches for 4" which worked out perfectly for the pattern. What I discovered was the the WB clung together and knitted easily with a slight twist at the beginning of the ball. I wonder if the carrier yarn`s texture doesn`t allow it to cozy up to the WB the same way as all WB strands do and makes for the problems you all have described. I may experiment with that after I get through with WIPs. That should be a while. :} Good luck and let us know how all this turns out. BTW Pat, my cat Jinx was going crazy to get at the WB. I shall have to watch him carefully so I don`t end up like you and your WB. I just wonder what he`ll do to my coat after it`s made. Yikes! lol

DH is off on another adventure..... Oh Patricia, a year or two? That seems like such a very long time. Will he be training police forces there? He is obviously a doer and not one designed for kicking back watching the grass grow or the snow fall. Will you be able to join him at all? What can we do for you while he`s gone? You know I can come split wood for you, loudly, very loudly. lol I even promise to leave your stash alone. ;}
Godspeed to your DH and prayers for you both.

it`s been a great birthday Thanks to both of you for the birthday wishes. Happy birthday to you as well Carrie. A night out on the town sans munchkins can be a real treat no matter how much you love them. Enjoy! I had a great day, knitting of course. Life is a lot of fun isn`t it? A grand adventure full of uncharted waters to keep it interesting.

Casual Cables buttonhole opinion I really like the idea of using Marion`s button band on this sweater. It`s very pretty and would look great in the alpaca. But first, girl, you have got to stop ripping that sweater out or you won`t have anything to put a buttonband on1 Ha!

What a pretty sweater Patricia! That`s so girly pretty Patricia. I like the cable addition. Is it for DGD whose sweet picture we saw modeling her new scarf? The Kureyon really worked out beautifully.

WB - rethinking "Not Your Mother`s Coat" Okay, I wound ALL my WB into balls with 6 stands + 3 strands of contrasting color. I took me quite a while yesterday when I should have been working on my casual cables but you all got me fired up to try the WB. When I started knitting it I decided it was too bulky and didn`t have enough texture variation for my taste. So now, guess what I have to do? That`s right, separate all those strands again. Drat,drat,drat. I`ve decided I want to knit 3 strands of lilac and 3 strands of dark burgundy WB and then use something with a different texture to set these two off. Any ideas? You know whatever you mention I probably have in my stash! That`s scary! Shhh... don`t tell my DH. lol

Heaven... I`m going to Heaven!! Jean, you lucky girl, I`m so happy for you! What a fabulous trip. You know I`d love to go. If I could pick one place to visit Scotland would be it. Have a wonderful time, we`ll all be waiting to hear about it, and of course, we`ll want to see pictures. :}

WB - rethinking "Not Your Mother`s Coat" Mohair was what I was thinking too. I do have some relly pretty Geisha. I`ll just have to go through my stash and see what works with it. Boy, was I overconfident winding all that WB. I liked the swatch but when I got all the stitches cast on and worked a few rows I realized I really didn`t like it. I guess this proves you really don`t get to old to learn, lol

Heaven... I`m going to Heaven!! Jean, you and Cate are tempting me but if I go to Scotland you know DH and I will have to make that trip together the first time. And somehow I can`t see him doing the knitting trip. :} I think you two are trying out for the title of Enabling Duo. ;}

Reply to Patricia I had my number of days set to 30 and changed it to 10 and it loaded a lot faster. My service is ISDN which is only slightly faster than dial-up. The price of living in the woods.

Capri openwork jacket I have put everything else aside until I finish my casual cables sweater. I`m trying to clean up my act about so many WIPS. :} I think it would be great for your DSIL. I also think a first or second honeymoon in Arubua would be great. ;} I have not worked much of the capri pattern but I was very pleased with the look of it and it did really fly. It would be tres chic over a little dress in the evening for dinner. After I make this for my DD`s they may ask me to send them to the beach to wear it. lol

what a difference I`m so glad you brought this up. I changed my setting and it is so much faster. I used to get another cup of coffee and knit a row waiting for the page to load. Does this mean I`ll get less knitting done? ;}

Being brave about this...USM/ISM and machine knitters? I don`t have a knitting machine or the house your DH thinks I live in. I have glass doors with dog nose prints on both sides of the glass. I have lots of large, dusty windows from the gravel driveway, my wood floors have dog prints on them. There are books on every subject but mostly knitting, stacked on tables. There are baskets of yarn everywhere and a large jar on the kitchen table with knitting needles and tools in it. To navigate the furniture requires a GPS (we are in the middle of a remodel and furniture placement is temporary I hope.} Thank heavens my DH is tolerant. I say a spotless house reflects an empty mind. I thinnk there should be evidence that actual human beings live in a home. Believe me, there`s plenty of that at our house. :} I used to be an absolute maniac about my housekeeping, waxing floors on my hands and knees at 3AM while everyone slept and scads of other disgusting stuff. I did not do this while wearing chiffon but I was pretty bad. lol My grandmother kept a quilting frame up with a quilt in progress in the middle of her living room until she was disabled by strokes so I have a very high tolerance for living rooms being used for living. Good luck with your house plans and a place for your ISM. You and Tim could have lots of fun with it.

Ahh - the Sound of Silence I hear you! Much as I love my DH I have threatened him with all kinds of dire things if he retires. I told him he would have to leave the house and go to the barn every day at 8AM and not come back to the house until 5PM. lol

That FCEK Atrocity I took one look at this top and wondered how in the world I would ever get it on without choking myself on all the straps. Then I wondered how I would keep the hole below the straps in the middle of my chest. I have visions of women who make this walking around looking like Janet Jackson every time they move their arms. Then there`s the issue of all those beads digging into their backs every time they sit down. I honestly can`t think of any way to make it uglier. I think with bets` addition of holes at the bust it would be perfect! lol

vega Okay Jean, this is getting too crazy. I too bought the Merlot Geisha and I have already printed out this pattern with it in mind. Cue the theme for "The Twilight Zone." lol

I`ve gone over the edge I took a short nap yesterday and dreamed about trying to find a yarn to make the Rowan Chippy pattern that MustangJudy posted. I was looking for an Aran weight like the Brilla (which I am in love with) and couldn`t find one. Of course, this is my quest in my waking state as well. Any ideas? For the yarn, I mean? My mind is beyond help. :}

I`ve gone over the edge Ooh, but I`m hoarding my Brilla for other projects. I did go back and buy the rest of the forest green. (Elaine enables. lol) It arrived Saturday and I took it out of the plastic bag and just caressed it. It is so wonderful!
