Our elann.com Limited Edition Cantata in color 19, Bella Notte, is a made up of several strands of yarn plied together. Most of these strands are quite a solid black, and the remaining strands are a shade lighter, but not quite light enough to be called grey. You are correct that color 16, Vienna Cafe, is a very dark brown. You might like to consider our Peruvian Highland Donegal, which is more like what your husband has described above.
