Since I`m on a fixed budget, is there a cheaper type of yarn to use for these lacy shawls? I know it`s wise to use what is recommended but, I can`t really afford something that`s over $3/skein.

I don`t know of any lace yarns that are in the price range you mention. I wouldn`t recommend doing lace with acrylic because it doesn`t hold a block. I`ve found the Elann Peruvian Baby Lace Merino is one of the best quality yarns out there and really excellent value for the price. With 2 skeins you can have a fairly big shawl/wrap/stole. With 1 skein you can have a pretty big scarf. Personally, I don`t think you can do much better than that.

I did my fleur-de-lis in 2 balls($2.78x2). Less than $6. elann has so many nice yarns for lace.

Lisa-I am a little confused-you say you can`t really afford more than 3.00 a skein-that doesn`t tell me much! Would you like to spend less than 20.00 a project, less than 15.00?
With two balls of Baby Lace Merino and `lightest order`shipping, you can choose from a pretty wide selection of lace projects for under 15.00.
